Shade shivered slightly as he looked up at the Life Essentials shop, one three-fingered hand holding his hood over his head. Normally, the boy wouldn't have wanted to go outside on such a miserable looking day - he didn't particularly enjoy having his sneakers soaked to the bone from slush and snow. He wasn't really fond of cold weather either - not many of his kind were, so his mother had told him. Today, however, the cold didn't matter. Something important had come up and had called to his attention, nice weather or not.

Pulling the door open, the boy stepped inside and pushed his hood back, relieved that the inside of the shop was much warmer in comparison to outside. He shook his head slightly, his large ears freeing themselves from his sweater's material as he tried to knock some stray hair from his eyes; not that his hair was ever anything but unruly anyway, but he liked being able to see. Soon, his golden eyes were traveling around the shop curiously. Shade knew a little about this shop, though not much - he'd only heard scraps about it from Elst, and little from Verdant.

What he did know, however, was that the shop was offering something rather interesting. While he didn't know many details, he was still aware that it was at this shop that Elst had received Aoi's spark. He also knew that it was Banning who had presented Verdant with Orpheus' spark. The teenager wasn't here because of either of them though; no, he was here because of the letter that he'd been sent, the one that had invited him to the shop. Tail, flicking anxiously, Shade clutched at the paper that he'd been carrying in the pocket of his hoodie and licked him lips.

"Is...anyone here...?" he finally asked, his voice rather quiet as he made his way towards the counter.

Only with a few seconds delay, a cat-eared head peeked up from behind an impressive stack of paperwork and folders littered through with neon marking strips.

"Ah! Welcome to Life Essentials." miss Longway smiled. "I already thought I'd heard something." teehee, lord that woman can grin.

Coming out of her little prison ground, sandy tail curling up pleasantly, she glanced the youth over, toes to eartips. "... yoouuu must be young sir Flereous." she guessed, with a good margin of certainty. How big were the odds of a small imp running in here at a day like this and not be the one Banning her briefed her about a day ago, after all?

Shade blinked as he spotted the cat-eared woman; did she work for Banning? The impling boy could only assume so. "Thanks..." He smiled to her timidly, and nodded a bit as she guessed his name. "Yeah, that's me..." The girl seemed friendly enough, though he'd never been called 'young sir' by anyone before.

"I...got a letter that was from here a couple days ago..." The boy didn't know why he was telling her this, considering the fact that she'd obviously known that he'd been coming today.

"Aaaaah, yes, yes indeed you did. Have you thought about it?" she loped over, trying not to let her inner squee show too much. Such a cute mousy that lad was.

Bane must've gone mad, proposing this to such a young person, but hey... They disagreed on more things than this.

'Though about it' was putting it lightly. Shade had been turning the idea over in his head for a few days now, wondering if he could actually do something like this. An essentic was a big responsibility, and while the boy was familiar with such things, he would still be undertaking something much more difficult than just doing the dishes or making sure that the cat was fed. He'd seen how essentics acted, how they learned...hell, Orpheus and Aoi reminded him of kids, much like himself. Could he really handle something like that?

But...it would be nice to have someone else at the house when his mother wasn't home - someone that he could talk to, to keep him company. Verdant often referred to Orpheus as a younger sibling, and a brother or sister was something that Shade would like to have. Maybe he really could do this...

"I...y-yeah, I have, and...and I'd like to accept the offer..." The impling only prayed that he was making the right decision.

Timka kept a keen eye on him as he thought, then nodded sternly.

"Good. .. yeeaaah, you were here for a Social-class type, I remember. Yes, just a moment." she smiled, then directed him to the other end of the lobby, where the little salon and the low onyx table stood.

"If you wouldn't mind taking a seat and waiting for a short while, I'll go fetch Ba- .. Master DeLonghy now." she told him. "My duties don't extend to fetching you your Spark from there, he'd probably chop my hands off if I ever tried." With a light chuckle, she left Shade by the couch and went upstairs.

Indeed, it didn't take long at all for her to come trippling back down, with the lord and mastah of the shop in tow. It was always a rather impressive sight, such a neatly-dressed man, sharp golden eyes, and now sleekly swiped-back shortish black hair. Oh the hilarity that had ensued when Timka had first ran into him the day after their head scientist had had her way with his 'do.

"Good day." the hawk greeted politely and extending a hand, not even looking quite so intimidating from up close as he could have.

Shade nodded, following the young woman into the salon before taking a seat as he was directed to. The boy glanced around as he waited, admiring the building quietly as he tried not to stress too much about this - he could do it, he knew that he could, and he needed to stop looking at all the 'what ifs'.

The teenager looked up as he heard footsteps coming from the stairs again and soon spotted Timka coming down the stairs with a rather good-looking man behind her. He could only guess who the man was and got up off the couch, standing up straight as he was addressed. "H-Hello sir." He accepted the hand and shook it, forcing himself to calm down - everything would be fine if he just stayed calm.

Good, very good. Banning gave a calm nod when the impling at least found the manners and courage to react according to proper conduct. It wasn't hard to see how nervous the youth was, but it wouldn't do to outright tell him to 'relax', now would it.

After the handshake, the man sat down opposite of where Shade had picked his spot, then cast his assistant-secretary a meaningful glance. A second later she'd skipped away, dived behind her reception desk, and began to muss around somewhere. Soon enough, after the sound of a latch unlocking, the shuffle of something hollow and clonky and sull, and the latch going back up, she came waltzing back to the salon, and handed the carton cilinder she was holding to Banning. He gracefully received it, then with a few deft no-nonsense motions popped the lid off and carefully slid the parchment roll out, spreading it out on the table and turning it upside-down so the impling could read it.

"This is the contract that was mentioned. It is nothing more than a token of trust, an non-binding promise that you will undertake no actions to endanger yourself, the Essentic you will be bonded to, or us and all that have connections with us." the noble explained, reiterating what Shade had hopefully already understood.

"Take your time to read it through if you wish, we have all the time we need." he at least somewhat tried to reassure the boy to not feel pressured, while Timka suddenly perked up, skedaddled and came back an instant later to lay down one of Banning's ornate pens beside the parchment. Almost had forgotten that, whoop.

"There you go." teeee.

Shade assumed that he should sit down again and did so, hoping that he'd managed to not do anything rude unintentionally. Not that he was normally outright rude, but he didn't want to seem like he was and end pissing someone off. The impling boy turned to look at Timka as she came back in and soon found himself looking at the cylinder that the young woman had brought with her.

The boy looked to Banning as he began explaining the contract to him, listening intently. The demands seemed simple enough, and he was fairly certain that he could follow them. It wasn't as if he did anything extreme on a daily basis - hell, he rarely left his apartment, unless it was to go see Verdant, Dorian, or Elst and Aoi. He'd never intentionally put the Essentic in harms way anyway.

"Alright..." Shade had never been fond of reading, but he skimmed through the contract nonetheless, taking it in just to make sure that he hadn't missed anything. Everything seemed pretty straightforward though.

"Thank you." He gave Timka a small smile as she set the pen down next to the paper before he picked it up. Well, it was now or never. The boy took in a bit of a breath before scribbling down his slightly messy signature on the contract. No turning back now - he'd just have to hope that he wouldn't ******** this up horribly.

Oh, he was doing quite alright. If Banning dissapproved of any wrong moves it certainly didn't show, settle down. The only thing that might've been slightly disconcerting how the man seemed to have forgotten how to blink, as his gaze never once left Shade, observing keenly. If this visual probing ever did cease it was when Shade wasn't looking back. At least this part was over and done with without delay, smooth going, guys.

When the impling had completed the last stroke of his signature, Banning gave it a second or two to sink in, then got up, and strode over to the iron door on the street-oriented part of the left half, then without a hint of a key visible, opened the safety door.

"He'll be right back..." Timka reassured the youth, watching her employer with anticipation, and maybe, worry. While the man was out of the room, she calmly filled Shade in on how the next act would go. yeah, the bonding thing, just let it come naturally, no need to fret. At least while she was talking the time seemed to tick a little faster, and it didn't take very long for Banning to arrive as it was.

Exchanging a glance with miss Longway, he sat down again, and placed a cilinder-shaped box on the table, almost as broad as it was high. It almost looked like several loops of cookie boxes stacked on top of each other, only this thing wasn't made out of metal or plastic, instead it had a wooden touch to it, polstered with pale cloth. The noble then removed the tight-fit lid, reached his slender hands inside and brought up the Spark, then gently set it down before Shade.
The pale, almost ghostly green oddly oölytic rock glimmered waxen in the overhead light, clear blue bubbles of Essence defying all sense or gravity floating up and oozing from invisible pores.

There you go. You know what to do.

Shade turned his head to watch Banning go before looking back to Timka as she began filling him in. Just let it come naturally...he didn't fully know what that meant, but it sounded as though he'd know it when it happened. Soon enough, the noble had returned with a small parcel - the boy didn't need to be told that the box probably contained the spark that he'd signed for.

Anxious gold eyes watched as Banning lifted the spark out of its container, the look changing to one of awe as he set his eyes on the little thing for the first time. Though he knew Aoi and Orpheus quite well, he'd never actually seen a spark before. True, it looked like a rock, but it definitely looked like the most unique rock he'd ever seen, especially with the bubbles. It kind of reminded him of something from one of his mother's faerie books, quite honestly.

Carefully, the teenager picked the spark up, as if worried that merely touching it would hurt it in some way. Thoughts ran through his head and he searched for a purpose for the little stone that he held in his hand - what should he make it though? A friend, perhaps? No, that wasn't close enough...it needed to be something more than that. Family. Perhaps...

'A sibling.' The thought came to him at once and he pondered it for a moment. It seemed to fit, honestly. Shade had always wanted a sibling, a brother or sister to keep him company when Luna couldn't. 'You'll be my sibling...' Another thought came to mind - it would need a name as well. What to call it though? He got his answer as he remembered something that his mother had told him when he'd been younger; one of the names that she'd considered giving him had been...

'Nyx.' Then, a warm feeling seemed to well up inside him. It caught him off-guard at first, but he quickly found that it was nothing to be worried about - was this the bonding? A smile came over the boy's features and he looked up, his expression void of its usual timidness for once.

"Thank you." He didn't know how else to express his gratitude right now, unless they had a piece of broken tech laying somewhere nearby. He very much doubted that though, and therefore could only hope that both Banning and Timka could see just how truly grateful he was.

The two adults watched him in silence, giving him the time and quietness to really live this moment. As always it was quite something to witness this bond forming, so unlike this had been in the ages past. With the Source energy this abundant, and the atmosphere created so calm, the true wonder of it had the chance to return, to become more than the loose 'you are now assigned to me'-attitude the first protos had once called a connection. To be fair, they hadn't been capable of more, not even forming themselves beyond the first useful stage at all.

Seeing Shade's expression become less tense as he thought, his entire demeanour changing to something decidedly softer after he was done, it made Timka smile as well, and even her employer dignified himself with a shadow of contentness. Well done.

"I believe we are finished now."
he spoke calmly, sounding almost laid-back, like a cat having found a particularly cosy spot to huddle by the fire at.

"Yes, that's it, that's all. It's all yours now." Timka nodded, giving an earflick to snap herself out of it. Whoop dee doo, okay, back to the world of the living, mushytime's over. Nothing could seem to wipe that smile off her face though.

Banning got up then, and shook Shade's hand again.
"I wish you the best of fortune. Don't hesitate to seek us out if you encounter a problem or have practical questions." he still told him, before taking his leave and retreating back upstairs.

"Or you could swipe one of our guide folders." Teehee.

Now that his previous nervous demeanor had ebbed away, Shade found himself feeling much calmer. The boy shook Banning's hand, seeming a bit more confident than before and nodded as he was told to come back if he ever had any questions. "I will. Thanks."

The teenager watching the noble leave before looking back to Timka, giving her another smile and, again, thanking her. Then, he made his way back out the entrance, slipping the new spark into the front pocked of his sweater before pulling his hood back up as he stepped back out onto the cold street. The weather was still pretty cruddy, but there was very little that could ruin his mood right now.

All he had to worry about was explaining this to his mother.
