It was some old junk store she'd never taken the time to notice until recently. Cramped carelessly in between two other, larger shops that inhabited Gaia. Sitting on the sidewalk infront of this place one would find Karoko.

And, they'd find her examining the remains of what looked like once to be a clock. The largest piece, the one containing all the little gizmos and gears, was the one she was holding. The others were carefully tucked off to the side, where they weren't in the way and avoided being stepped on.

Karoko lifted the object to her ear and listened hopefully, but no sound assuring that it had been fixed came. "Drat," she grumbled, lifting one of many tools also at her side. "Maybe if I fix this one..."

"DAMN you shopping list of pennance!"

Frustrated, Alexander kicked a small rock out of his way and continued down the sidewalk, crumpling the rather large list Feather had given him in a clenched fist along the way. The tedious chore of shopping was just one MORE thing his mother had forced on him to punish him for using her credit card to buy some Gladiator outfit.

...and it just so happened that 'vintage typewriter' was next on the list. It seemed Feather had created the list JUST to make him run around Barton to get obselete, random objects like the said typewriter. He'd had to get a Nintendo 64 just before that in a Salvation Army store at the opposite end of town.

So, when he saw the hole-in-the-wall junk store, he figured his streak of bad karma was over, and quickly hurried toward it. Perhaps he could get all his stupid shopping done in one place, afterall!

...then he saw Karoko, working diligently on a...clock?

"Er...what're you doing?" Alex quirked a brow at the girl, setting the various bags he was carrying down on the sidewalk, clearly not minding the other pedestrians.

Was she trying to act like a female-version of the young Henry Ford?

"I'm fixing the clock," the girl answered. Somehow, she seemed unaware she was talking to someone else. Not that she was anti-social, just shy, but that failed to kick in when her mind was mostly focused on some sort of task. In this case, fixing this stupid clock.

Easier said then done, but she was fairly positive it was something she could do.

"Um...why? ...why right now, I mean. You work for this shop, or something?" Alex was no longer curious, but rather, just confused. Let's see... strange bat girl sitting on the sidewalk who just impulsively decided it was a good idea to fix a clock?

That didn't add up very well.

Was that a serious question? Karoko raised an eyebrow and finally took the time to glance up at him, unblinking. There were sometimes two expections to the 'shy' rule she unknowingly followed. 1. Being too wrapped up in something to notice much else, and 2. Pity for the uninformed.

"Of courrrse not," she offered politely, her eyes once again falling down to the clock remains. "I'm too young to have a job." Though, when she thought about it wouldn't be so bad working here. "I'd like to fix it so I can give it to someone. It's cheaperrr than buying a new one."

Lowering her head slightly, she blushed a little. It was too embarassing to just admit she generally enjoyed working on things like this, though she hadn't nesscarily lied either. If she could fix it, it would make a nice present.
