Two Car Accident

A two car accident.
the radio told me today,
twisted steel and blood
and shatter souls
littered the street.
A two car accident.
Friends would huddle together
hot tears which could together
quench the thirst
of several third world countries.
A two car accident.
Lives would come apart,
Centuries old cloth
unravelling, spilling loose thread
which tangles around
the heart and mind.
A two car accident
would delay your life
not just your
ride to work.
There are things I wish
the radio told me
years ago

I Am A Puppet

I am a puppet
My master is the past
Red strings of fate entwine with my fingers
Honeysuckle vines which girdle my limbs
Blood veins which bound me to reality
Some smooth, some frayed
Some steel, some silk
Each word, each breath
A new string
Each string binds me to thoughts,
to dreams, to worlds which are
beyond imagination
Some bind to greatness
Some bind to history
Some bind me to her
Yes, a tangled web of
decaying bitter thread
link me to her
How I wish to take a pair
of three inch lefty scissors
and sever once and for all
the bloody link between her
and you
Eradicating that moment
that action
that event
from all thought, all history, all memory
If even that measly thread were cut
The quilt, the web, the entanglements
of today's threads
could spiral into black oblivion
existing only in a mad genius's dream
But I can never sever that strand
which leads me to the conclusion
that we are all puppets
and time is our master

Sunset's Zipcode

Can you tell me the zipcode of where the sun sets
Or the phone number where I might reach horizon?
Where might I find the moon's address,
Or the birth certificate for twilight?
When exactly does the sky meet the land
And who does the ocean wave to?
Will you give me the sun's surname,
Or Andromeda's social security number?
Do the lofty clouds claim an upper class
As they lazily float above the ground?
Or does the diamond in the rough brag
How it has worked it's way from filthy coal?
Can you teach me the native tongue of the North Star
So I may ask Father Time if he truely knows the hour or the day
And Mother Nature if her Prozac is enough to calm her nerves
From seeing her children butcher what she strove to perfect
As I walk with them, searching for the zipcode of where the sun sets.

Frozen Solid

The longer you sit in the pouring rain;
The longer the icy water seeps into your skin;
The longer you feel your skin turn raw
As your heart grows numb;
The longer the sleet tumbles from the sky
Coating your body in desolate ice;
As you stare at the locked door
Knowing someone has to be inside;
The longer you stare through the window,
At the warm glowing light within
And the sweet bliss lying just beyond that pane;
As you lose all feeling in your limbs,
And once wild tears have frozen
To a sheet of ice on your face;
The more you can honestly appreciate
Being curled up by the fire
With the one who has let you inside.

Oxygen

It's maddening
You would blame yourself
For the lack of oxygen in outer space
The fact is, it's not your goddamned fault
You know it, and that's what makes it worse
You aren't Atlas
Take responsibilty for something
That you know you screwed up
Don't ponder and guess
and "What if" and "could have"
Yourself into a coma
It's insanity, you need some help
You did your best, you've done enough
Get over youself and stop moping
Stop pondering and pouring over
Senseless, completely senseless drivel
IT'S NOT YOUR ******** FAULT
So what if you didn't vote?
You're living in a ******** blue state!
Your vote for Kerry couldn't
Have kept Bush out of office
and I know, as much as you would like to
You can't stop time, rewind
Take a second chance, or a first chance all over again
Time is constantly in play and moping,
Whining, simmering and rotting in your
Goddamned paranoia isn't solving anything
Pass someone crying on the street for once
Hide your face behind a book and care about ******** the world, you have one life to live
Your own
Not everyone is upset because of something you did
It's not all about you and your mistakes
And it's not like I don't know this
But I would blame myself
For the lack of oxygen in outer space.

Imprisoned

It's a prison that anyone can see
But no one can recognize it
With floors like ice, and the clickity clack
Clickity clack of a keyboard
Amidst the brightly lit room
One may call it a luxury but I call it
A prison, a prison of parents
Parents, and school, and duty
Duty and responsibilities
Responsibility to my future
The future as my parents see it
As though they are all seeing all knowing
All knowing, they are not gods
Gods that hold the key to this prison
But as I lay upon the floor
The smell of the radiator and incense
Candles burning upon the shelf
Fill the room with a presence
A presence that I can only feel
As the electronic beat from speakers
Drench the room, my heart my soul
The electronic beat and the beat of my heart
A heart full of memories yet to be created
Close my eyes, breath deep, I'm not alone
No matter how far away, when you close your eyes
Nothing exists, no barriers, no time, no gap
No gap between us as the smoke, the beat, the light
The light and the warmth transform this prison
And I know you're here. Clickity Clack.

Cure for a Heart on Fire

A forest without rain ignites with the slightest spark
Unpredictable winds and flames transform the landscape
Wild, overwhelming and frightening
Unable to believe the mighty fire could fade
Next to the blaze, humanity and life itself
Become trivial as you stare in awe
Too entranced by the heat to get out of the way
You willingly allow the beconing inferno
To consume you in its warmth
Escaping the barren landscape around you
And you perish
The blaze will die as well leaving ash in it's wake
But leaving room for new life
A heart without love ignites with the slightest spark
Unpredictable passion and lust transform the soul
Wild, overwhelming and frightening
Unable to believe the mighty emotions could fade
Next to the one you love, humanity and life itself
Become trivial as you stare into their eyes
Too entranced by the passion to get out of the way
You willingly allow the beconing emotion
To consume you in its warmth
Escaping the depression in your soul
And it perishes
Why look for a cure to the madness?
Enjoy it while it lasts for this blaze will die as well leaving ash in it's wake
But leaving room for new love

Words on a screen
1s and 0s
Wires and distance
How could this ever be love?
A kiss in the dark, illuminating it all
But this love is purer than most
Waiting for the day when I can hold you in my arms

Definition of a Soulmate

Those who forget are doomed
to repeat history
and forget again
As with centuries gone by
over and over again
Like a dream to the
feeble human mind
And life repeating once again
as it did so long ago
What was written by no historian
but by forgetful hosts
That with each passing lifetime they shed
the pain and blood and bliss
and begin anew
Remembering not meaningless millenia
that the soul knows so well
Simply to forget again
...and promise again
...such blissful words to be lost to the wind again
For the death of a body is truly tragic
But more tragically, a newborn cannot remember
Thus is the frailty of the simple human
to be so cold
and closed minded
Blind to that which their eyes have not seen
Numb to that which their arms have not held
Thus the spirit weeps in darkness
Waiting
For the ancient ties of fate
to rebind
old dreams and bliss
To truly love until the end of time
is for the spirit to pace
in the darkness and blood of the frail human
Waiting...
....and waiting...
and...trying...
....struggling not to forget.

Demon Slayer

And she called her her green eyed demon slayer.
Demon slayer?
That common girl
who rises with each sunrise
to disolve as a single grain
into the sand on the beach
which is humanity to the universe?
Yet, the Goddess Sun called her a demon slayer
What light can the heavens see
from their great distance
that she cannot see where she stand?
Perhaps it is a light
that only Amaterasu herself can see?
And perhaps that common girl
will always sit in the dark
unaware of the aura that glows from her soul.
For surely that would hold some key
some insight as to why
Why?
Why had the sun goddess called her a demon slayer?
Had her nights
stargazing
topless in the grass
exposing her very soul
somehow coaxed the sun to rise
and banish the darkness
to another realm?
Is that what she meant by demon slayer?
But how could that common green eyed girl
possibly be the slayer of the demons in heaven,
when she cannot even slay the demons
within her own soul?

Yeah, I wrote that poem for my friend Matt. I left a copy of it on the bleachers at the football field on the 10th when we went to light candles in his honor. It's where we had the vigils for him last year.

I don't think he wanted us mourning though. I mean... the night of the vigil last year the wind kept blowing the candles out. This year there was a blizzard on the 9th so getting to the football field was impossible... my friend Amy the genius that she is wore Burkinstocks (Sp?) in 10 inches of snow.
