So I looked in the corner of my room and I realized what a messy person I am sometimes. D: It's encroaching from the closet and creeping over to my bed! I have to clean it soon. I feel like I don't have any space to walk all of the time D:

Then I thought....
Don't they have obscenely small rooms in Japan?
Do you think that the Japanese people have to be cleaner than a lot of Americans with big houses because their rooms are so small? or do you think they naturally are? I've seen "cluttered" rooms and I don't really count it as messy....

...But clutter drives me so crazy! There has to be a perfect balance, you know...

...all of those pikachus....

I think that they're just raised to be neat. I mean, what choice do you have when you're stuck with tiny rooms. And they're built with all kinds of crazy storage stuff. Like secret hiding places for the futon and stuff!

It is definitely a culture thing. Back when my Aunt and Uncle lived there, the Japanese people would put out "Out of Style" items for new ones and the American's would take the items. They wanted what was new and would just get rid of old items instead of keeping them.

Also, there isn't a lot of space for stuff in Japan. Minimalization is key. I guess they won't be doing a Clean House special in Japan anytime soon!

On a similar note, I'm watching House Hunters International. There's an American buying his first home in Tokyo. He's looking at all these places and wants a 2 bedroom space. I was shocked to see that for the price of a 4 bedroom house in the wealthy parts of New England, you can buy a 1 bedroom apartment in Tokyo. It's amazing to me that people would pay $500,000 for an apartment! And a super tiny one at that!
Anyway, when you think about how expensive that is, it'd be ridiculous to think that the average Japanese family would have a lot of space. Hence the neatness!

Yeah I agree that it's a culture thing. I mean, if a Japanese person lived in a tiny space since their childhood, of course they would be trained to be neat otherwise they will literally live in a ton of stuff. Maybe some do, but I dunno. LOL. And yeah, it is amazing how expensive it is in Tokyo. But we do have to keep in mind their standard of living there is slightly higher than where we live and stuff.
