 Tikoto bounced across the savannah with a purpose. The night hid her well, but in this early morning stillness she stuck out like a sore paw. Her stomach was full to the brim from last night's kill, but still, she thirsted for more. It wasn't nearly enough of a struggle to satisfy the demon within. She craved more. More. More.
Her sharp orchid eyes scanned the trees. This was leopard territory if she remembered correctly. Maybe she'd get lucky and find a whole nest. A den would be best. A birthing den. Tikoto took a running leap at the nearest tree and landed on the lowest branch, her dagger like claws digging in deep. Now, if she were food, where would she hide?

The young leopard was huddled up against the rough bark of a tree. The only thing not clinging to the branch was her long tail that hung down and swayed lightly in the wind. Compared to her other hiding places this one was rather comfy.
Unfortunately though for Mihika she couldn't stay there forever. With a sigh the leopard forced open her eyes to scan the savannah. The fur along her spine tingled.
In her gut she felt that there was something else out there. Mihika frowned. Once she might've listened to her gut instinct, but she was getting older now. Wasn't it silly to move due to her own fear?
Still...Mihika scampered down the tree and started moving away from what had been her night's bed. Low to the ground the leopard hoped for as much stealth as possible.

Tikoto ungulated down to the tip of the branch. Her eyes were dilated. Down below she'd seen a figure slip from a tree and was watching it move around the ground below. Were it not for her twisted need propelling her to become sharp of eye she wouldn't have noticed it.
The lioness leapt from the branch and landed on the ground with a solid thud. She wanted her prey to hear her. Hopefully they would run away or put up a fight. It didn't really matter. As long as they didn't die on the spot she was pleased.
Tikoto kicked her back leg out to work off a knot before bolting. Her strong, powerful legs pumped her forward, faster and faster. Really? Could she have been lucky enough to find a female? Tikoto was on cloud nine. She couldn't smell pregnancy in the scent, but she could only hope!

Mihika cursed quietly as she heard the thump behind her. Why couldn't her stupid instincts be wrong for once?! With a yowl that split the silence around her, the leopardess started bolting forward.
If only there was a tree or someplace she could hide into! Or at least a place to protect her back. Mihika's canines pierced her lower lip in desperate thoughts. She didn't like fighting...it reminded her of that childhood failure. How battered and torn she had been while her mother had been mauled in front of her eyes.
Her mother had died for her. Mihika's eyes narrowed, her mother's sacrifice for her life wasn't going to waste! With a low growl the leopardess noted an outcrop of trees and rocks. She would go there.

Tikoto cackled with pure glee. Thank the Gods that leopardess wasn't lame! She really was a runner, but Tikoto kept her regular pace. She wasn't planning on really pushing herself til the prey tired out. Until then, this was like a aerobic jog.
DAMN IT. Why did they always find the ******** trees? It wasn't good enough to have a little game of cub and shrew. She just had to ruin it by going for the trees. Tikoto snarled and took a sharp turn, taking her on a set path to block the adolescent. She'd be damned if she had another tree run! That trip with the juvi had been quite enough, thank you.

Mihika was quite pleased that she wasn't one of those plump pride fed females. Still she wasn't expecting the pursuer to be so serious and intent on following her! As of late she was just used to warning chases.
But this time she felt fear. Real heart throbbing fear. Something Mihika hadn't felt since her cub days.
Her heart was racing in her ears as she pushed sharply against the ground. Normally the leap probably wouldn't have taken her to the top of a rock, but adrenaline was kicking in.
Plus she was pretty accustomed to the longer leaps by now. With a grimace of pain the young leopardess scratched at the rock and managed to haul herself on top of it. With shallow breaths the leopardess pressed down, plotting.

The lioness' lean legs pulled on her shredded tendons for added strength. She watched the leopard out the corner of her crooked eyes. Not much longer now.
s**t! Tikoto slid easily on another turn, sailing over the same rock with her stomach scraping against it. She bled, but the pain didn't register. It was too close to pleasure for her to bother her.
The trees concealed her serpantine movements, but her angered roar bounced off all sides. She was close enough to snip at the adol's tail, but she slipped out of grasp.

Note to self : Branches taste nasty. Mihika literally bit back the urge to toss the nasty thing out of her mouth. But it was the only hope she had. She was lean and fast, not strong and muscular after all.
The decayed branch was heavy and the leopardess hoped that she didn't have to actually use it. Surely the heavy covering of ivy would help hide her scent and herself from that demon chasing her. Mihika winced. She had been so certain that this stuff was behind her too!

Tikoto skidded to a stop in the slick earth. She pricked her head up and sniffed, following the last traces of scent to the ******** tree line. Her inner demon ripped open her throat with an abusive roar.
She couldn't do this alone anymore, damn it. Wasn't that why she had kids? Where the ******** was Abrafo? He should be by her side, heading off the prey instead of snuggling up to another <******** leopard.
She slammed her head against a tree. Over. And over. And over. DAMN IT!

Mihika shivered in her hiding spot. Wasn't the lion supposed to go away now? Surely, she wasn't that much of an important prey! The leopard stared in confusion and terror at the sight of the lioness.
What was she doing? Did she believe that she was in that tree? Mihika frowned. That was no way to get your prey down from the tree - she must be insane. Maybe it was a sign that the demon was giving up? Hopefully.

Visions of her mother sat in like a cancer. She slowly wavered to a slow slop, her orchid eyes focused with deadly precision on the spot where Mihika had vanished. Tikoto's barbed tongue snaked out to rub across her fangs. Yes, this was the way.
In a blink the lioness was running again. Her nose was pressed to the ground following the faint trail, but her steps never wavered, despite the rough terrain.

Mihika's eyes widened in surprise. That demon was still after her even now?! The leopardess suppressed a growl - anger was fueling her now. She was getting rather tired of being the chase and prey.
After all she was a big cat too. Just because she wasn't a lion didn't mean that she should be the prey every time! Running always running, how her paws hurt by now!
Mihika's eyes narrowed as she picked up the branch. Adrenaline thumped through her body as she let go of the branch with a mighty swing. Pride flashed over her features as it went tumbling towards the demon lion.

Tikoto never saw it coming.
The branch crashed into her chest mid-pounce, slamming her back to the earth with enough force to give her whip lash. Her head bounced off a stone before coming to a rest. It took her a few moments to get a barring on the darkness and push her way back into the light. Tikoto let out a mournful howl. She pulled herself up onto her paws, wobbling after the leopard before falling flat on her face in a dead faint.

Victory. Mihika breathed in relief as she dashed away from the lion. Adrenaline was wearing down now and the leopardess finally realized that her whole body was shaking.
Being the prey was never fun. But something had happened this time to make Mihika feel strong. She had fought back. For the first time in her life she had fought against a stronger opponent and won. Though she knew that she hadn't killed the lioness - but she had knocked her pretty good.
Strength wasn't all there was apparently. Mihika giggled as she left to find a new hiding place. One where she would rest and then prepare to travel once more. Like always.
