 The steady sound of waves crashing into the shoreline had been a pleasant sound to fall asleep too, they had arrived at the Ocean shore late the night before, it had been too dark to see much of the ocean the night before and Starlite who in her life had never managed to travel to Quirne before now had risen early so that she might watch the sun rise on the beach.
The vastness of the ocean was something the mare was unprepared for - oh she'd heard of it of course but seeing something and hear of it were often two separate things entirely and standing on the edge of such a giant and untamed thing as the ocean made Starlite feel rather humbled, she was but a speck next to the water spreading out as far as the eye could see.
Much like her the future spread out before them she reflected, a future she hoped would continue to have Swiftwind in it, they had been traveling together for quite some time now and had grown very close, other thoughts had started to tickle the back of Starlites mind lately, thoughts she had yet to share with Swiftwind.

Swiftwind woke a short time after Starlite did. He was sure to remain quiet for the first few moments so he could watch her experience the ocean for the first time. A smile crossed his maw as he watched the early morning suns rays dance on her pearl hide. It was a perfect beginning to his day.
After a few moments of watching her standing there he made his way over to where she stood. He nuzzled her softly. "Good morning beautiful." His eyes moved out towards the ocean. He had been here once or twice when he was younger, and it never ceased to amaze him how unending it seemed. "Are you enjoying yourself here?"

Starlite returned Swiftwinds nuzzle as he came up beside her, his steps had been silent on the beach sand but Starlite had known he was coming anyways, it was somewhat of a sixth sense she'd developed during thier time together...one he seemed to have too, or at least they never seemed to have trouble knowing where one another were at any given time.
"I wasn't sure what to expect" she confessed "I mean sure I'd heard stories but stories just don't seem to do this place justice"She continued in a voice tinged with wonder - although to someone who knew her well it would be clear that her mind was not entirely on what they were talking about, she hadn't managed to completely re-focus her thoughts just yet.

Swiftwind bobbed his head slightly. "Indeed. I remember the first time I came here, I was quite awestruck by it. Although I was much younger then so it felt even bigger." He replied catching the hint in her voice that something was on her mind.
"Is there something you wish to talk about?" He asked her, knowing full well that even if she denied it that she did indeed have something bothering her. He wasn't stupid when it came to the way she acted and knew when something wasn't quite right.

"I can only imagine" Starlite remarked, even a tree to a young foal seemed vast and giant, to see the ocean with such eyes must have been a wondrous thing and she regretted briefly that she had not been able to experience this. When she had foals she told herself she would ensure they got the experiences she had missed out on.
Ah there was those thoughts again, the ones that had been slowly making their way to the top of her thoughts and dreams over the last few moons during her travels with Swiftwind. when she had foals...what a thought, she had never been one o think of such things but then she had never had another in her life who made that path possible, would Swiftwind feel the same? there was only one way to find out and he was already curious...clearly it had been apparent to him that her thoughts were elsewhere.
"Have you ever considered what it might be like to have a family of your own?" she asked him, eyes turning from the Ocean to see his reaction to her question.

His ears twitched a bit as she revealed what was on her mind. That would explain why she seemed so distracted at the moment. It was a fair question he thought, after all they had been together for some time now and the subject was bound to come up sooner or later.
"I have thought about it before yes. Although I previously didn't give it much thought since I was yet to find someone who I wanted to share my life with. But now..." She stopped to nuzzle her softly. "I think it would be nice to have a family." He looked into her eyes. "What about you?"

Starlite wasn't sure what she had expected from Swiftwind when she revealed what had been on her mind, she scrutinized his ear twitch but held her tongue until he spoke his mind - on the plus side she told herself at least he hadn't run screaming along the shoreline, not that she'd expected him too...but it was still nice to note. Her tail flicked a few times thoughtfully as he spoke...it seemed she needn't have worried at all.
"Well since it was I who brought it up I would think my thoughts on the matter are quite clear" she teased him after a few moments of silence "It's just been on my mind lately..we aren't getting any younger you know...and I hardy want to be chasing foals about when I'm older..."

"Well just because one brings up a subject it doesn't mean that they are for that particular subject. One could merely be testing the others reaction before giving their true thoughts on the subject." He told her, doing as good of an impression of an Elder as he could.
His head snapped up. "I'm not getting younger? But all time time I thought..." He shook his head. "No it can't be true, all those times I felt so young and free spirited. It was all a lie." He lowered his head. "This saddens me greatly."

Starlite rolled her eyes at his impression, letting out a snort of amusement. "You know very well that I would only bring up such a thing if it was something I wanted" She continued in a mock scolding voice. She didn't know many Elders but she was fairly certain that if any of them had seen Swiftwinds impression they wouldn't be pleased...they'd probably lecture him on the evils of making fun of his elders.
"And yes alas you are going to be a creaky old man shortly" she looked at him sadly "And then I shall have to find someone to take care of you..because I certainly won't be making sure your grass isn't to rich, or you don't fall and break a hip somehow" she teased him, although they both were of the near the same age and would both be old fogeys together.

He gave her a hurt look after she scolded him. But it was so hard to keep a smile off of his maw that soon he found himself smirking at her. He certainly had found the perfect mare to spend his life with. And his parents would be proud as well.
"What if I don't want anyone to look after me but you?" He asked her. "Or perhaps you will be too feeble to do so as well and we will have to get someone to watch us both." He chuckled at the thought of having a Nequus watching over them to make sure they didn't get themselves hurt. "Maybe we can get our children to take care of us in our old age. I hear that works out wonderfully in some families." He smiled, talking of children did make him realize that he would indeed spend the rest of his life with Starlite.

Starlite arched one fine blue brow at the stallion a he gave her a hurt look - she knew him well enough by now to know said look was only in jest and was proven right when his face broke into the smirk. "Don't worry dear" She fired back at him "you'll be too senile to know if its me or not"
"However" she continued after a few moments pause "you do raise a good point - and surely if we expect our children to take care of us in our old age we best start on that soon...we certainly can't have youths taking care of us...they'll forget something important in their hurry to run off with their friends"

Swiftwind broke out into laughter. Too senile to know, that's hilarious, he thought. "Well I'm sure that even in my senile state I would be able to recognize your beauty, even if I had no clue who you are." He told her as his laughter died down.
As she turned the conversation serious again he stopped laughing. This was not the time to joke around, they could joke later, the subject on hand was of great importance to both of them. He bobbed his head for a few moments before answering. "Indeed." He started. "We can discuss the details of our slow decent into insanity at a later time. And yes I agree, as you so brilliantly stated earlier we are not getting younger."
He turned to look at her. This was really not something to rush into and yet they both clearly looked forward to having children. "I know you said you would like to start a family, as am I, but I want to make sure before we jump into this. Are you ready for it?"

"Typical male..." She told him with a slight roll of her indigo eyes "prance a fine looking filly by you and you'll remember...even if your half daffy from old age, now getting you to recall the name..theres where the trouble starts" She concluded in an amused tone.
Her ears pricked forward as the stallion suddenly became serious once more, clearly he was now giving real thought to her proposal, she'd known they would get around to it eventually, joking was just their way of working things through it seemed like. "Is anyone ever truly ready?" She asked him "In all seriousness...I don't know if this is something you can completely prepare for no matter your intentions, but I do think we can handle whatever comes our way yes"

His ears flicked in thought for a few moments. "No I suppose no one can truly be ready for such a thing without previous experience. It is something that is learned on the fly, so to speak." They would certainly be as prepared as they could be should the event arise. He had experience with foals from growing up in a large herd. But Starlite having been a lone foal from a family on the move likely didn't, but she would be a good mother none the less.
"I know we will be the best parents that we can be when the time arrives." He told her, then reverting back to his joking ways he looked at her oddly. "Why hello there, I don't think we have met before."

Starlite gave him a smug look when he agreed with her assessment - she was pretty sure he would, she had never known a parent who said they were completely ready to be parents. Granted she didn't know allot of parents...but the ones she did know she thought highly of. "Together we can over come all things" she stated firmly, then rolled her eyes and started back towards the dunes over which she knew there would be some grass to eat.
"My names Sue" she told him offhandedly "I saved you from drowning in the ocean" she added just to make it all the more absurd. Yes they were an odd couple...
