first off i dont play tournies that arnt sealed deck or extended so this wont apply to you t2 people

i've found that putting counterspell on isochron septo is just pure win coated in fried gold.

in my blue white deck i got it out on the third turn and had my oponant so locked up i could afford to toy around with him.... and he was playing a speed old school tourny deck.

Well Isochron + Counterspell has always been the one extended deck that I think is cheap as hell. However there is a way around it. The way to do it is simply use a Leyline of Singularity. If I am not mistaken Isochron Scepter decks usually run 4 Isochron Scepter. And with Leyline of Singularity out all nonland permanents are Legends. So if you drop out your second Isochron they both get blown up. Extended decks aren't my normal cup of tea but I still think I could take the Isochron deck with my extended Treefolk. Since I can turn 3 Leaf-Crowned Elder I get around Counterspell with Kinship.

my deck is blue white, even if my iso is subverted i still have a bunch of other types of counterspells to get the job done. infact it isnt really the main engine. the main engne of the deck is walls walls walls and unblockables(depending on your creature types and abilities) the counterspells are to make sure my creatures don't bite it and you don't get the creatures you need... the iso'd counterspell(only 1 iso) is just to have some leeway in that dpt.

i could post the whole deck if you like.

Wow. And I always thought the best thing to put on a stick (ie Isochron Scepter) was an Orim's Chant. rolleyes

Counterspell hasn't been Extended Legal in like 3 years or so. Plus Isochron Scepter is no longer Extended Legal as of August (?) when WotC cut Extended from being 7 year meta to a 4 year meta.

You know what really beats Scepter? Krosan Grip baby. mrgreen

Orims chant is still the superior combo.

I get around counterspell in general by making sure I've always got at least 2 ways to use a combo if my deck is going to center around it.
