The cave entrance existed as the large gaping mouth of an ominous slab of onyx. The stone had emerged from the earth only a few months ago, but it was a well known phenomenon. It had erupted in the midst of a central city, destroying a traders guild and a thieves guild, and taking out a large repository of ancient magic. Not to mention the tavern.
Loxi Graop stood outside the caverns mouth awaiting the heroes he had called for.

Alex walked up, his black bear following close behind. As he approached Loxi, scoped out the area. The cave wasn't the most inviting place he had been, but the coin seemed good. He had seen his share of trouble, and barely made it out of some pretty rough spots before. He fingered the hilt of his short sword. "I suppose you're the one who called me out here." Glancing about the area, he kept his guard up for anything that seemed amiss.

* Slipping from the shadows of a nearby corner, Conan appeared behind the old mage. The garb he wore had a couple themes appearing to go on. One was a very cat like theme. He even wore the head of a tiger-esk creature. While his gloves had sharp claws. The cape was of the same print as the gloves and mask. However his vest, sandals, and bracers had a more forest theme about them. Looking to be decorated with vines and leafs. The man in the mask spoke up. *
Conan:"I'm impressed that you were able to contact me directly. It takes most people two or three informants to reach me. I was informed there would be three. Shall we go over a bit of the details while we wait? Such as payment."
* The figure turned to face the man with the bear. He glanced him up and down. *
Conan:"Judging from the outfit and the animal that seems to have taken a liking to you. I'm guessing you are one of those fighters who trains in non-urban combat. I do believe the common term in these parts is Ranger."

He glanced the rouge up and as he was being observed himself. "Aye matey, and by the way you seem to have come into the picture I'd guess you were one of those roguish types. Though I tend to think of it more as guerilla warfare than non-urban combat. Just trying to improve the odds in my favor." For some reason, he felt like he could get along quite well with this fellow, which is good since it seemed like he would be working with him on this quest.

He waited until the second man stepped out of the shadows before he began to speak. No reason to waste words that would surely be ignored as the two judged each other.
"I'm sure you are Conan. As I am sure there are many who are impressed by your own skill. Experience is its own best reward. When this is over I shall tell you how I found you, so that you might... adapt."
He then moved gesturing to both men and then into the cave.
"Few venture past the entrance, but I assure you there is nothing dangerous until the second chamber. The first, I have established as a study. Come inside and I will explain what I have learned so far, while we see if your third party member finds time to arrive."
[Halo- is it pronounced like O'Brian or The Barbarian?]

OoC: I was thinking more along the lines of O' Brian but in my mind they are interchangeable.
BiC:
* Conan looked at the old man. It was true that he wanted to know his secret but he could also use a little coin. Well, maybe he would press his luck inside. *
Conan:"After you, sir."
* Conan motioned for the old man to lead the way. Then he turned to the ranger. *
Conan:"Then you and your companion may go in next."
* Conan waited for the others to go in. *

Something about a rogue behind him didn't make him feel too at ease. As he entered, he made sure to keep his bear between him and the rogue. "So what is this about secrets and the like? And just how dangerous can this possibly be if you've started living here?"

* Conan appeared behind the bear. He quickly moved away from the bear and over to a spot by himself where he could monitor the room and the entrances. He did a scan around the room looking for anything out of note. While doing so he decided to chime in. *
Conan:"Yes. I too would like some info on what we may be facing."

The mage shook his head lightly as he got himself settled into a spot. He gave them his best obnoxious smile and gave a snap of his fingers.
"You want information? And here I thought I was going to be able to point at the door and say 'have fun'."
He paused for a moment to cast a fireball at the wood in the center of the room. "Now that we've settled in, lets get to that information:
Three months ago a mountain of black stone erupted out of the ground. It did much damage, but no magic users or guilds, or anyone else is taking any responsibility for it, or making a deliberate attack on any keep that may have been distracted or weakened by this. There was no target, no goal. However, I am also fairly certain that it was not natural. There is no stone like this anywhere near this area. The only damage done to underground portions of the city is what might be expected from an earth quake. Witnesses say it emerged from the ground, but the damage seems like the stone was placed on top of the city.
The danger stems from the unknown. I entered the cave only an hour after the shaking stopped. And in the second chamber there is a portal. So far fifteen adventurers have traveled through. As of yet, none of have returned. Not even a good friend of mine who has spent his entire life studying the planes.
For this reason, I must tell you that it is possible that you will not be able to return. And if you are to return, Rodrick the Planeswalker is your best hope. I will also tell you, that you will receive your reward money immediately before entering the portal. If you become stuck in another world, you will at least have your riches."
He held up a hand, to try and prevent interruption.
"However, I must implore you to go into this new world. Someone was able to cross over from the other side and then leave again. And when he left, he took something from my shelves. A blue gem infused with the cold brutal wind of the frozen wastes. In the wrong hands, it could cause major devastation."

"So we get paid, and then wander off to our deaths? Well this is certainly not your typical contract agreement. Do you have any more information on this item of yours regarding whom may have taken it, and how easily concealed it it?" He stepped next to the bear and put his forehead against it's, scratching under his neck. "And how will we know this Roderick planeswalker when we see him?"

Conan:"Also, is there anything you may be able to give us to protect us from this gem of yours that was taken. Also, a description of the person who took the gem would be useful too. Actually any information on those two would be helpful."

"Unless he stayed near the other end of this portal, I do not have anything to help defend against the gem. All I have is magic, which will fade.
Finding Roderick will either be easy, or impossible. If he can not find a way to leave the realm he will be sure to attract as much attention to himself as possible. Finding the crook, well that all depends on the land you find yourself in. It was a human, male, about as tall as Alex there. In odd wardrobe, a stiff dark blue material, both pants and jacket. "

"Have you scryed upon the person who stole this item from you? I would think it would give you some information about the world we are going into so we would be somewhat prepared and it may give us a bit more information on what to look for to find this person."
