The pale stallion gazed across the horizon as the sky turned from pinks and yellows to the darkened blue of the night sky. Stars were sprinkled through out the sapphire sky as the moon lit the way of the night. Clouds started to roll in, a shaded gray…the kind that looks as if it would bring a storm. However, the soft puffs brought on the first snow flakes he had seen. He got to his hooves and walked from his day shelter where he had spent many moons to try and ‘find himself’ away from his blood thirsted mother and her pet skinwalker. Cool, empty eyes peered in the distance. Not a soul insight. It was probably for the best, he hadn’t fed in awhile…no one needed to see that. He clutched his wings to his sides as he moved silently, swiftly away from his shelter.

He could feel the cool flakes melt upon his scars, the cool touch. The stallion hadn’t been touched in so long on that particular side of his face. He shuddered and slowed to a walk as he cursed himself in an unknown language to most. Asher was not from this place that was for sure…a different land one far from here that he could never go back to. He sighed to himself as he moved forward as he usually did with his own life. He pondered if he should go back to Belle just to have the company…or perhaps his brother. He shouldn’t do that, his brother had a nice little family. Why should he disturb their life? He shouldn’t so he wouldn’t and live until he could find his own match if it were possible.

The trickling of a stream got his attention and he went towards it, just to explore the night and its wonders. Plus water was a source where others gathered to quench their thirsts. A perfect place for finding breakfast. He stood, almost as if he were a statue, his golden mane covering his scars…his imperfections, waiting for whatever or whomever to come. Though this ritual was usually ended with him not feeding as he couldn’t bare to harm someone that wasn’t willing. And who would be willing to do that? He wasn’t like his mother who took whatever she wanted. He was much more chivalrous. There were a few that actually became addicted to his touch and he soon left them because their pleasure wasn’t worth his time. He never thought he would end up like this when he was a foal, but things do change.

One year has passed since the mare last saw the white beauty that was known as snow. It fell in curtains down to the earth, covering everything, from trees to animals, in a white blanket.

“It’s truly beautiful, just like a dream…”

Above the mare, the sky was growing dark, more snow was on it’s way, ready to freeze the undying beauty in place. She was in a small glade that contained a tiny stream with ice forming at the edges. The Angeni walked over to the stream and slowly brought her head down to the water. The icy water refreshed the mare making her more alert.

On a whim, that was unexplainable to the mare, but this was a constant occurrence, so she continued on her way, silently flowing the stream up to a higher point. The freshly fallen snow muffled her hoof beats as she claimed the small hill.

Stop. There is something there. An inner voice spoke to Isabliss, making her stop in her tracks and peer into the darkness.

A pale Soquili stood still, his long blond hair appeared golden even in the darkness of the night, it flowed down his neck and stopped where his front legs began. He was an Angeni as well, but instead of pure gold wings, they were a mixture of black and gold. The moon shone through the clouds, lighting up his face, there were scars, but what surprised her the most were the white fangs protruding from his mouth.

The mare was torn between staying and fleeing. Never before on any of her travels had she ever encountered a Soquili like him. One question ran through her mind as she stared at him through the safety of the trees. Was he dangerous?

Yes. The inner voice replied.

Asher could sense another’s presence. He could feel the stare as if it were burning a hole through him, as if he weren’t even there. He was used to being stared at. Once for beauty, now for sheer shock of what had become of half of him. The misery, had tormented him for years and still had. He did his best to keep his long locks from showing the weaker side of him. He looked at himself in the stream and only could grimace at what he had become. He wondered for how long he could dwell on such things. The stallion could only assume for life as it was a pain he would have to endure for a life time, he could never heal those scars.

He looked up to see whom was watching him, those cool blues taking everything he could in. a female angeni, oh this was rich. An actual angeni with one fallen from grace. That was the epitome of irony. She was a pale grey, with thick locks curling and swaying with the winter’s bitter wind. He figured she would either run off or be entranced, that was usually how it worked. He decided to spare himself the drama and go to her himself. That would be the noble thing to do, right?

The pale stallion moved slowly, as in not to frighten the poor girl. That was the last thing he wanted to do. Asher could feel his stomach rumble as he grew closer to her. He could already hear his mother’s voice in his head, ‘Taste her, Angeni is blood of delicacy….’ The stallion shook her out of his head as he continued, before stopping a few paces away. He was stronger than his mother, than she ever would be. But she would never see it, not yet. She could consider in him weak for not giving in to his desires, but to him it was strength.

His body moved to cover his scarred side, as he watched her. “It’s getting late, and cold nonetheless…” he initiated conversation. His voice was low and had an almost melodic ring to it. Thick with his unique lands that told he was not from here. “Do you always roam out this far?” By that he meant he was in the boonies. There was little to no civilization out here. It’s why he picked it, he didn’t want to harm anyone anymore. Not until he could control himself.

Time appeared to stand still as the two Angeni’s stared intently at each other; snow swirled silently down to the ground, already adding to the blanket that lay beneath their hooves. Freshly fallen snow muffled the sounds of the forest; all that was heard was the constant breathing of the Soquili, making the tiny thicket eerie to those inside it and out. The stallion before her was like her, yet so unlike her; there was a darkness in him that drew her to him. One thing she knew for sure deep down in her heart, she would not run from this stallion, for he needed her help in some way and she would not leave a person in need. Even if he wished that she leave, she would not, for she knew it would be the fear of change talking and not actually what the stallion truly wanted.

As Isabliss watched the gold and black stallion in front of her, she could tell that he was suffering. It was clear to see with the quick looks that passed across his countenance. Every particle of her being wanted her to reach out and touch him with her wing in a form of support, but she held back, not wanting to cause the stallion to come to the wrong conclusion.

When he spoke, Isabliss was taken by surprise, his voice was clear and it rang with a different octave than most she has heard. It was quite alluring.

“It is getting cold, but can you not admire the way the light of the moon reflects off the tiny white snowflakes?” Her voice was soft, quiet but loud in the chilly night air, “I go where the North Wind takes me. It takes me far from those I know, but I always meet new Soquili and never go to the same place twice,” she gave a small smile to the stallion standing in front of her, “If you do not mind my asking, why are you so far out?”

Isabliss had guessed the answer when she noticed the fang, but she wanted to hear him speak again. His accent was not like any she has heard before.

It had taken her a while to remember where she heard the stories about ones like the stallion before her. An old Soquili shaman had told her the legends of the ones who walk at night and are cursed by the sun, and how they are told apart from the other’s because of their pale skin and the pure white fangs that hid within their mouths. Blood was the substance that kept them alive and they took it from their pray by biting into the skin and sucking them dry (Full Consumption).

In all her travels, Isabliss never once thought that she would come across one of the Ones that the myth talked about. A Vampire.

The male seemed surprised that the female had not already left as he knew her instincts would so the fact she stayed was beyond the capacity of his own mind. His cool blue eyes stayed on her as he shifted backwards. She was oh to tempting, the voices would come to his head again. Mainly, his mother…she could get in his head like there was no tomorrow and she did it to torment him. Morte was not anyone you would mess with, she was worse than skinwalkers to him. He wonder if his influences had grown since he had not eaten in so long. It would be possible, that could be why she wasn’t leaving. Stupid girl, he thought to himself. He gave her a cold hearted stare, he interest was something that bothered him. It was as if she knew what he was and she didn’t care.

It was impossible for him to get any wrong impression from anyone, he considered himself a burn upon this Earth and hideous due to his scars that remained on his body. He didn’t believe he could be loved, not after the accident and not after Julianna. He would live alone as far as he was concerned and so far he hadn’t been to bothered by it. He didn’t miss his brother’s company and Belle would stop by whether he liked it or not.

“You should leave, now.” He replied with a stern voice. It left no room for argument for most. His tone had changed to the demon that grew inside him…though his voice was still soft it instilled fear into most and those took off without a second glance.

He just wanted her…one bite wouldn’t be too bad right? He shook his head, he couldn’t...she had done nothing. He was so hungry. His stomach rumbled to reassure him he hadn’t eaten in days...

“Because out here, I can’t harm anyone…” The pain that overtook his mind was like nothing he could explain. It was an innate behavior for him. To feed, just like any other would feed on apples…or grass, he needed blood or he would surely die. He started to feel a bit nauseated. He wasn’t going to collapse in front of her but if she stayed for too long he could no longer protect her from himself.

In the cold snow filled air around the two Soquili it was easy to see the warmth breath of the Angeni crystallize and disappear into the world of night. It would have been a wonderful night to stand on a hill overlooking a valley of snow and stare at the moon, admiring her beauty as it reflected off the white terrain , and the clarity of which she shown in the sky.

Instead, she was in a glen with a stallion who wanted her gone, which was clearly seen as his stare intensified while she stood there watching him. From his body language and from the cold hearted stare he was bestowing upon her, Isabliss was clearly certain that he wanted her out of his sight. The look he gave her brushed past, not affecting her in the least, but his words were a whole other matter. For the first time in a long while, since she was a young foal, a soquili’s words made her bristle. It was not a reaction that she was expecting.

“I do not like being told what to do,” her voice was still polite, but it held a stern edge in it that she was not used to having, it surprised her. He was intending to strike fear into her heart; it was not working. Since it was quiet in the woods, she was able to hear clearly the sound of his stomach growling like an untamable beast. Her look became pained; it was in a way her fault that he was suffering at the moment.

Very softly, words spoken barely above a whisper, the grey Angeni of insomnia spoke the two words that barely covered the emotions that she felt, “I apologize.” She looked up into his eyes, holding his gaze, “I understand. I will leave only if you truly want me to. I will not leave because I am afraid of you, which I am not, but I will leave if you ask me to… nicely,” Isabliss sighed, she did not want to leave; she wanted to help the mysterious pale Soquili with the ivory colored fangs. Deep down she realized she would not blame him if anything happened to her; it was not in her nature. Isabliss closed her eyes and waited for his answer, waited for him to tell her to leave and never come back.

The stallion wasn't as baffled as he would've been a few years ago, when he first arrived here and a female disobeyed a male he found it odd. He came from a time and place where females were submissive and subservient. This was a whole new era for him...in his head he was going stupid, stupid female and in his heart he couldn't blame her for it. She reminded him so much of his last beloved...how he had loved her, nearly worshiped, yet she was murdered for loving him. He could almost never live with the guilt, almost...his damned brother named his daughter after her and their mother. Wasn't he just creative, he still blamed him for part of it...he could have saved her. Then he may still feel love in his cold heart, but those hopes, those dreams had past. For who could ever learn to love a beast, such as he.

The nauseated increased and his veins began to shrink again he knew this feeling, it felt like death every time...yet it never came. Sweet sorrows, then maybe he could see her...it was hard to believe that it wasn't her standing before him. He could hear her damned voice again, oh how he wish he could pull the plug on her. Before he had realized it he was next to the female and the darkness filled his eyes, "This won't hurt a bit..." as he plunged his fangs into her the sweet taste of crimson and copper smell filled the air. Normally if he fed regularly it wouldn't be as bad, but he had been holding off for some time. The more he had, the more to realization he was becoming...something that should have felt so wrong, felt so good. He had to pull himself away from her before he took to much, he never had gotten much resistance as he was told it felt rather pleasurable. It never made him feel to good to know that he could kill someone and it would feel absolutely wonderful.

He tore himself away from her, as and moved a few paces away...distancing himself from her. At least he knew she wouldn't bleed to death, something about his line and their salivary glands almost being an adhesive. His mother used it to her advantage, drinking enough before death, letting them regain their strength only to do it again. After the life died out of their eyes she would finally end it for them, however he couldn't, and wouldn't ever do it. He wasn't cruel. Under his breath, he uttered, "I told you to go..." he was almost angered. If she would have left in those few milliseconds, it wouldn't have happened. Sure he would have to pound his head into a tree a few times, but it could have been done. He could have fought harder, but he gave in...in his mind he had failed.

Memories flashed across his eyes, but they were hidden from her and it was not her place to ask what he was going through. She was just a mare that stumbled upon him in the dark of night with the bright moon above shinning on the frozen earth. Without having to talk to the Soquili before her, she knew that he has suffered greatly; it was clearly seen by the deep sadness in his icy blue eyes. Isabliss’ heart ached for him, she wanted to rid him of the pain that he had in his soul; sadly she knew that she did not have that type of power within her, she could try, but it would only end in sadness for the both of them.

In a blink of an eye he was standing next to her, his bulk blocking out the light of the sun on Isabliss’ grey pelt; her eyes were calm as she stared at him, no trace of fear showed in her eyes, for there was none. With a quick flash and a slight p***k of unexpected pain, his ivory colored fangs were within her vein and sucking the warm blood from her body. It was an odd experience, feeling the liquid that kept one alive sucked out by a force that was not controlled by you; her vision was starting to grow fuzzy, but she stood still until he was done.

Before she could make a noise he was across the glen, far away from her; the place where he bit throbbed a dull constant throb, but that soon disappeared and the blood was safely secure inside of her. Isabliss waited for him to speak and finally his words came out in angry ragged breaths; there was nothing more she wanted to do than comfort him. A feeling of hopelessness surrounded her, which she soon shook off, “I apologize for causing you this pain. I did ask you if you wished me to leave, but since you did not reply, I was not to leave until your say so.”

She turned her back on the Soquili standing across the clearing, “For I have caused you enough trouble, I will be leaving,” Isabliss stopped and added almost as a second thought, “If we shall ever meet again, I would prefer to leave my name with you. I am called Isabliss.”

Her grey eyes looked into his, waiting to see if he would stop her or if he would give her a single name in which to leave her with.
