White! Absolutely everything was coated in white. The dark, two-toned stallion would have been thrilled by the strange substance if he hadn’t found that it came with a good number of problems. The white, it seemed, only came when it was cold, freezing more accurately. Fionn was not fond of this cold one bit. The white, was also very bright. Every time the sun moved out from behind the clouds Fionn had to squint his eyes or else go blind. Additionally, the white, clung to everything, this included his tail and the hairs around his ankles. Finally, the white was very slippery and all of these elements combined had landed the young stallion in his current predicament.
The cold in the shade of the trees had made him seek out warmth from the sun in a large clearing. The moment he had stepped into the sunlight he had been unable to see anything at all; this included a rather steep slope. The snow clinging to his feet made getting a good footing difficult. By the time he had regained his sight he found himself at the bottom of an incline staring up at where he had been standing before a long slide down. Climbing back up proved to be an impossible task. Every time he got all four feet on the side of the hill he slid right back down.
He looked from one side to the other trying to decide upon the best course of action. He had never come to this place before and he certainly didn’t want to stay there. However, he didn’t want to stray to far from his home and worry his kin and he had know idea where he’d end up if he followed either of the two paths. “Excuse me...” He called settling for a third option. “Is there anyone out there? I’ve found myself in...quite a bit of trouble...”

Snow! It was here, it was fluffy, it was damp, it was everywhere! And it made a wonderful backdrop for Blossom's coloring, even if she had to say so herself. She'd been roaming around in the sunlight, admiring the beautiful (though quite cold) day, when she heard a voice call out. A male voice. Intrigued, and game for a bit of flirting, the pink mare wandered over to investigate.
It wasn't too hard too hard to spot him, once she saw his tail and his front end. The back end was much closer in color to the snow and blended in a bit. But the rest was black and purple and easy to see. Plus, he was moving around a lot, trying to get up a slippery slope. Blossom watched him for a minute or so, standing just a few horselengths away, before making her presence known.
"You know, there's an easier way to get to that hilltop," she observed. He clearly wasn't familiar with the area, or perhaps all the snow had thrown him off. Blossom, on the other hand, had been born in the winter and no amount of snow would see her lost in this area!

The unfamiliar voice caught his attention and Fionn stopped his futile effort to get up the way he came down, at least for the time being. He turned to locate the owner of the voice and found himself looking at a very pink mare. Her colors stood out nicely against the white blanket that had covered the earth but he couldn't say for certain if it was that contrast that made her so easy to look at.
Not forgetting his manners he quickly planted all four feet firmly on the ground before dipping his head in a graceful bow. It was always good to be on one's best behavior especially if in the company of one who had very useful information. "Good day milady," he said straightening up again. "I would be very much obliged if you would share your knowledge with me. How might one get to the top in conditions such as these?"

Blossom giggled at the stranger stallion. He was so...so quaint! She smiled at him. "If I didn't want to tell you, do you think I'd have said anything?" She cocked her head to the side as she studied him. He certainly was a handsome stallion. "Do you always talk like that?"
Then the pink mare realized she was being rude. "Oh, I'm sorry! My name's Blossom, what's yours?" She had yet to move in any direction from where she'd been standing when she first spoke up, prioritizing getting to know her new friend over showing him how to get back up the hill.
She'd show him. Eventually. But why would she cut short her enjoyment with a new acquaintance? It went against all of Blossom's standards.

He had no answer for her first question but a slightly sheepish smile settled on his face. But for her second and third questions he had plenty of answers and more slightly embarrassed smiles. This had not been the first time his speech had gotten attention just as it was not the first incident where he had forgotten to give an introduction in his greeting. He kicked himself mentally for being so rude and to such a lovely lady too.
"Please pardon me, milady." He said giving a quick bow of his head. "You have quite a beautiful name. My own is Fionn and I am very pleased to make your acquaintance milady." He hoped that she would not think ill of him because of his atrocious manners. It would be quite a shame to have offended such a pretty face so short into a meeting.
"As for my speech, I do speak in such a way at all times. Does it suit?" While Fionn had not forgotten that she knew how to get him out of troubles he would not press the issue just yet. Introductions and formalities were very important to any meeting. If a good opportunity arose to readdress the issue at hand he would take it. If not then he would eventually need to, unfortunately, rudely draw it to the forefront.

Well well well! Fionn (and what a sexy name that was!) had more manners than her father and more tact than her mother and all in that odd mode of speech! Which, she had to admit, was growing on her. He was just so...cute! And quaint! Blossom giggled as he complimented her name and tossed her head. "Why thank you! Your name's not too bad yourself," she replied coyly, winking at the stallion.
But back to the matter of the funny way of talking. Blossom tossed her hair and pretended to consider the matter deeply. "I don't know," she mused, breaking the tension with another wink, "I think it's something that you have to get used to, and I just haven't had enough exposure." If that wasn't her mother's lack of tact rearing its ugly head, nothing could be. And Fionn's looks weren't helping her remember that she had to show him another way to get to the hilltop.

All her winking was causing a bit of heat to rise to his cheeks. It was in moments such as those that made him very thankful that his front half was dark rather than his rear. He couldn't imagine that having his cheeks colored while trying to converse would be good for anything. "Thank you for your kind words, milady." He said trying his best to keep his voice steady despite the rather flustered feeling he was experiencing. On top of that he wasn't entirely sure what should or could be said to her concerning his speaking habits.
She said that it needed some getting used to, which he understood, it was odd the way he spoke. She also said that she hadn't had enough exposure. Did that mean she wanted more? Did that mean she wanted him to talk more?
He really wasn't sure but he cleared his throat a little to speak anyway. "Milady, might I ask what it is that you mean? I'm afraid that you have...well, stumped me." He peered at her a little shyly hoping, praying rather, that she wouldn't find his question to be too impolite. He didn't want to offend her by implying that her speaking abilities were sub-par in any way. It was simply that the phrasing was a bit unusual to him.

Blossom grinned inwardly as she saw that her flirting was having an effect. Oh, the joys of running into handsome stallions in the winter time, when not too many people were around to interfere. But for now, she was going to enjoy what she had here.
"Oh you're very welcome," she replied, green eyes sparkling. However...she lost her flow a bit when Fionn asked what she meant. Was he really that oblivious? Why were the cutest ones always the thickest? The pink mare sighed inwardly and rephrased herself.
"Well, I've never met anyone who talks the way you do, so if I'm going to get to like it, I need to spend more time around you," she told him with another wink. Then she paused, as if considering, and she looked to Fionn again. "That is, if you want me to like it?" Her expression didn't quite qualify as 'puppy dog eyes', but it was fairly close.

"Oh!" His eyes lit up with understanding only to lower a split second later out of embarrassment. Why did winking girls have to have such a strong effect on him. This he really wanted to know. He wouldn't ask, ever. He didn't imagine that there was really an answer anyway.
He attempted to take a moment to recompose himself but didn't receive much time before her voice rang out in the winter air once again. He looked up quickly to meet her gaze and almost wished he hadn't.
The look on her face was one that only a truly heartless person could ignore. Fionn was not a heartless person, he was far from it in fact and her pretty eyes made his heart quicken its pace and his cheeks burn. He was far from experienced with females and he sincerely hoped that his reactions to her weren't inappropriate or offensive.
He took in a deep breath and swallowed a little before daring to speak again. "I would of course appreciate milady's company but only if she truly does wish to. I would not wish for her to feel as though she needs to enjoy my manner of speaking." He was unfortunately aware that his voice was just a bit higher then it would be ordinarily. He begged the spirits that she wouldn't notice.

Well, at least he was able to understand that. He wasn't hopelessly oblivious, hurrah! Her eyes lit again as she observed his body language. Oh...how wonderful. He looked to be well and truly smitten with her. An easy conquest, as compared to certain other stallions. Blossom allowed herself a moment to savor the pleasure as Fionn seemed to take a moment to compose himself.
She had to giggle though, as he strung out words in perhaps the longest series she'd heard from him since he'd first called for help. All the words were familiar to her, but she supposed only Fionn, or whoever had taught him how to talk, could put them in that odd order.
"Well," she smiled at the stallion, "like I said before, it's just something to get used to." She tilted her head to one side and back again, remarking "It kind of grows on you, y'know?" Gods he was a cute one, and so polite! She really could get used to that!

"Shall I take that as a 'yes' then milady?" He asked with a slight tilt of his head. It seemed to be a yes but it also seemed to be a bit difficult to get a straight answer from Blossom. It didn't bother him in the slightest, he simply wasn't used to her way of speaking just as she wasn't used to his. Granted she spoke more like his sisters and brothers did and less like one thrown straight out of a fairy tale but that was beside the point.
"If milady wishes to spend more time with me...then perhaps we may venture to the hill top I was so desperate to climb?" He inched his head upward and to the side to better indicate the spot that he meant though he was pretty sure that she would understand. It had perhaps not been the most graceful way to come back to his original problem but it had been much better then interrupting the flow of a conversation altogether.

Blossom squashed one possible immediate response to Fionn's innocent question. The one that would almost certainly scare him away. "Sure, of course," she answered distractedly, trying to banish the banal thought from her mind. The thought mercifully fled as the stallion began talking again. Hrm, she should have expected that he'd still want that answer/tour. Well, perhaps she could prolong the experience anyway.
"Oh, right! I'm sorry, I got distracted," she replied, giving him another wink. "We'll go this way," the mare told him, heading off in what was almost the opposite direction of the hill. It was the best route, of course, but it would probably seem to Fionn like the wrong way.

It did, in fact, seem to be the completely wrong direction to Fionn. He momentarily wondered if she had gotten so distracted that she had entirely forgotten about which hill top he wanted to get to. He doubted that. The next most likely scenario to him, was that the was she was taking him was what his sister had occasionally referred to as the 'scenic' route. To him all this really meant was that it was longer but 'scenic' did have a more pleasant ring to it. Besides, she had implied that she wanted to spend more time with him and if was how she planned to do it he had no objections.
"Very well then," he said with one final look at the hill before he turned from it to follow after Blossom. Each step he took was very carefully placed and unusually graceful, despite the snow, for a stallion but it seemed practically effortless. "Milady, I humbly thank you for escorting me to my destination. I am afraid I would have been at a loss without you." Out of habit he bowed his head graciously and cast a small, shy smile in her direction.
"Might I be so rude as to inquire how long our journey may take?" He didn't ask because he was in a rush but just out of simple curiousity.

Oh man. Handsome, polite, and graceful too? Blossom was watching the stallion over her shoulder, ostensibly to make certain he was following her, and boy was he a find! How had she gotten lucky enough to hear his shout!?
"Oh, you're welcome," she replied coyly to his elegantly worded thanks, smiling back. She almost ruined the moment by laughing as he asked how long. It was like the foal on migration asking 'Are we there yet?' Still, she supposed she should have expected him to ask, given how he'd worked to steer the conversation back to getting him where he wanted to be.
"Welllllll...that depends on how long you want it to take," the pink mare told him mischeviously, green eyes twinkling. She wondered if, given his earlier performance, he'd be too dense to pick up on the hint.
