The bake sale was massive. Absolutely massive! Tables were spread out across the grass in every direction imaginable. Ponies by (what seemed like) the hundreds had gathered to both sell and purchase delectable baked goods.
And it made Isabel nervous.
Being impossibly shy, she was having a hard time figuring out why she was putting herself through this sort of torture. It was too crowded, too loud, too much going on -- her eyes were darting this way and that with every movement that was made. But, she still wanted to be there. Or, rather, felt like she should be there. Every other pony she knew of was there, anyway. After all, being nervous and shy was one thing... but being left out was even worse.
The smell of buttercream icing and freshly baked cookies and caramel topping and sliced berries made the ordeal a little easier to handle. Lavishly decorated cakes and pies and cupcakes, they left little pangs of familiarity that she wasn't quite certain where they were coming from. She felt both comfortable and uneasy, with the desserts and with the other ponies respectively, but she could persevere!
Especially since she wanted something sweet to take home with her to make all the trouble worth it.
So quietly, she moved through the clamoring ponies around her, being careful not to let her extravagant pelt brush any one of them more than it had to. Peering curiously at the baked goods, but trying to keep her gaze away from making contact with other eyes.

Gin was so pleased, the turn out for the bake sale was even more amazing then he had hoped it would be. Ponies from all over were coming to sample the desserts laid out before them, his table was almost picked clean, he had brought enough pies, cakes, and cookies to probably feed a whole nation.
Of course he had started baking for this event two weeks in advanced, perhaps he had gone a little overboard or so he had thought at the time. Now he was down to just a few cookies and a slice of apple pie which he had to keep far away so he wouldn't eat it himself. It was time for him to bring out his greatest creation, his masterpiece, a seven layer wedding cake frosted with white, sweet icing and decorated with ornate little pink roses and green leaves and vines.
Nodding once, he turned to go into the back and with the help of his two assistants Imani and Jasper, they carried the cake out slowly and with the greatest care, set it down on the table for all of the pony world to enjoy.

As Isabel edged past a table with a very hyper green pony prancing around behind it, cackling madly as he smeared himself and the others around him with whipped cream, a sound of uniform rustling caught her attention. It sounded like a stampede, a sugar-induced stampede, complete with the oooohh~ and aaaahhh~ that meant something big was happening.
Shy or not, curiosity took over and Isabel found herself inching closer towards the commotion. There was a hushed mumbling settling in over the crowd that formed around one specific table, and gasps of amazement intertwined in the air above it. Isabel could only imagine what all the interest could be about.
She had to duck underneath the craning necks of those trying to see over everyone else's head, and she was mindful to keep from bumping into anyone -- but no one was paying her any attention. All eyes were on... whatever it was.
But then, the equine bodies parted. Two moved one way, two more moved another way, and Isabel could see what was going on.
A pair of black and pink ponies were carrying a tray with an impressive cake balanced upon it. It was beautifully decorated, intricate little flowers and perfect, unmarred white frosting. Tall and beautiful and was surely the most stunning dessert at the bake sale.
So why, exactly, did Isabel's eyes go wide? Her face to fall in a look of shock, rather than awe? To have her scrambling on her hooves to try and get away, instead of being drawn to the cake to get a better look?
Because it looked exactly like her. The flowers, the vines, the tiny green leaves. It was eerie, too eerie, and when the realization settled in that all the ponies around her were so excited to see it because they wanted to eat it, Isabel let out a shrill, high-pitched whinny and almost knocked herself to the ground in her haste to get away.

Gin stood proudly next to his cake as the onlookers stared in awe at all of its glory. Ushering Imani and Jasper away so they wouldn't knock anything over, he surveyed the crowd with a huge smile on his face and then something caught his attention.
From the corner of his eye, a flash of white, pink, and green could be seen. Scrambling and pushing it's way through the crowd, he craned his neck to get a better look and his eyes went wide with surprise. Looking form the cake to the scrambling pony and then back to the cake, he couldn't believe what he was seeing and with a sudden burst of excitement, he shouted at the top of his lungs.
"It's alive!! My creation is alive!! Everyone help yourselves to a piece of cake!!"
He ducked out of the way quickly as the ponies descended upon his masterpiece, thank god he had pictures taken so that he could remember its beauty, but right now the cake was moving further and further from his mind. Weaving his way through the crowd, he followed after the pony that was trying to get away, quickening his steps so that he could gallop to her side, holding her up before she could fall to the ground and get squished by clambering hooves. "Are you alright?!"

How dreadful!
Those ponies.... they were ravenous, cannibalistic beasts! The cake they were all so apt to slice into looked just like a living, breathing being! Would one of them have turned on her with fork and knife at the ready? Maybe, perhaps... if someone had noticed her, that is.
Even with her whinnying, and despite her exceptionally decorated appearance, Isabel had gone unseen (or so she thought) when the cake came into full view. She was the only one to run away in fear, because every other pair of eyes was settled upon the cake.
She felt suddenly like the crowd of ponies around her were closing in rather than letting her pass. And her legs could not move fast enough, they felt as though she was running in place but never getting anywhere. All she wanted was to be away, to forgo the baked goods and leave before anyone could see that maybe the pretty white pony having a nervous breakdown looked strangely similar to the delectable cake in front of them....
The brush of a body against her side brought forth another whinny, this time panicked when her imagination didn't quite let it's hold go instantly. Her head whipped to the side and almost immediately dropped away -- regardless of the fact that she understood the baker was speaking to her.
"I-I'm fine, please... I just need to g-get away, for a moment..." Before you eat me.

Get away? Why would she want to get away? With some many cakes, cookies, pies, and pastries available, how could anyone want to get away? The very thought made Gin dizzy for a moment but he shook it off and nodded once.
"Come with me then!"
He nudged her side gently and began to direct her toward one of the back rooms where the ovens and baking supplies were stored. He pushed the door open, peeking from left to right to make sure no one was around and then with much resistance on her part, pushed her through the door from behind, following after her. "You will be safe in here! I promise!"
Gin looked her over, a little twinkle in his eye. She looked just like the cake he had created, it was like fate, this was meant to be.
"Where did you come from? Why have I never seen you before?
He walked circles around her slowly, looking at every detail, her unique mane to the flowers placed all over her beautiful white pelt. He was completely taken aback by her appearance.

Much resistance indeed. Isabel was already shaking her head, sending light blonde curls and flowers alike bouncing as her head moved, when the other pony started nudging at her. This was not getting away! This was the opposite of getting away. The bright red pony would have to be gone for her to be alone and that was exactly what she wanted. Going somewhere with him was not what she had in mind!
But her hooves, though they dragged as she was pushed, found themselves on stone flooring rather than soft grass. The room smelled very faintly sweet and several areas, especially around the large tables, were covered in white flour. And it was bathed in residual warmth from the overworked ovens. A common, everyday, safe place and yet Isabel was nervous again. Only this time, a hundred times more.
She didn't speak right away when she was questioned, her quiet voice hushed in a moment of overwhelming shyness. Isabel couldn't even remember if she'd ever been in a closed room with just one other pony and the thought of it made her more uneasy than the cake ever could have!
So her reply, after a long pause, was another small shake of her head. She didn't know where she'd come from, that was a question she would have liked the answer to herself. The second query wasn't quite so perplexing.
Isabel rarely, if ever, took the time to introduce herself to others. What could come so easily to most took hours of contemplation and over-thinking for her to even attempt. Being at such a large function, with so many other ponies around her, was unheard of for Isabel. And yet... there she was. Or had been, until she'd spooked herself.
Now, she was stuck with a pony that did look like he'd enjoy taking a bite and she knew it was not her imagination.
"S-stop looking at me like that," she ordered, softly, with her eyes shifting to steal a glance towards him. Her gaze flickered away quickly, even as he circled around and around. "It's rude."

Gin blinked and stepped back a bit, he supposed he was being a little rude but he couldn't quite help himself. He took a deep breath to collect his thoughts and calm himself down before he spoke again.
"Well..where you came from, that was a silly question. We all come from Seraphim. Duh.." He laughed quietly and walked around to stop in front of her, he could tell she was nervous, why he wasn't quite sure, but he was trying to best to reassure her.
"I got you out of there, you don't have to be so panicked now! Everything is alright. You can stay in here until everyone leaves if you want, the sale should be over soon!"
Gin leaned in closer to smell her, he was expecting a sugary smell, a cake smell, but all he could get were the scent of the roses on her pelt. Those weren't bad either, very pleasant.

Comforted, she was not. Though, in her defense, at least she hadn't shut down completely! She could at times draw up an invisible wall -- putting a barrier between herself and those around her if she wanted to. Freeing herself from the need to speak simply by refusing to do so. It would then, in turn, cause any other pony to leave her be and Isabel wouldn't be a stammering, shaking, nerve-wracked mess trying to keep up with conversation.
She would have liked it, very much, to block this pony out as well. But two things made that impossible:
One... he looked very much as she did. He wasn't all white, or covered in soft pink roses, but he was overtly decorated. Leaves at his tail, swirls of white and bright magenta across his flanks. Instead of a seven-tier wedding cake, this pony looked like he'd been dipped in chocolate and garnished with mint.
And the second... he was sniffing her(!??!?!?!). She instinctively leaned away, momentarily worried that he would finally take a bite out of her just as she'd imagined, but the inhale of breath was still off-putting. And yet... perked what little curiosity she had left in her all at the same time.
Her voice was quiet when she spoke up again, a bit detached almost, and her reply sounded as if she and the pony speaking to her were having two very different conversations at once.
"What do you mean... you've n-never seen me before?" Both eyes peeked at him from underneath a curled tendril of her mane. "That cake, it looked j-just like me."

Gin blinked and leaned back, cocking his head to the side for a moment before nodding once.
"The cake sure does look like you and you look like the cake! But I assure you that it is all just a coincidence, I've never seen you before! I swear!"
He walked over casually to nudge the door open, peeking out to see if the crowd had died down some. It has, but not by much, he had made a large cake and there were still quite a few ponies enjoying themselves, the cake was almost gone, just one or two layers left. With a sigh, Gin backed up to close the door again, the only part he hated about the bake sales was when everything was gone.
He worked hard on that cake, but he was glad that everyone was able to enjoy it, then he thought he maybe should have saved a few pieces for himself.
Turning his attention back to the other pony, he smiled wide before speaking quietly so he didn't startle her. "My name is Gin, how about yours?"

Maybe it was just a coincidence. An eerie coincidence, but perhaps it was harmless. It made her feel silly, in the pause the other pony took to peer out the door, for how she'd reacted when she saw his masterpiece. The cake had been beautiful, even if it looked exactly like her, and whinnying in fright wasn't necessary, was it?
It had been a shock to the system, she supposed. Something she wasn't expecting, when she was already on edge, had been enough to frighten her into a panic. But shouldn't something that pretty be put on a pedestal to look at, rather than devoured (gulp) to where nothing is left but a memory? She wondered if maybe Seraphim had seen a cake similar to that one when she'd been created....
Her adorned head shook from one side to the other as she pushed those thoughts away. It was over now, the cake was gone and she was away from it and it would be all right. The only thing she had to worry about now... was speaking back to the other pony, which was enough in and of itself!
"Isabel," she answered in a soft voice, ducking her head just enough to have to keep from looking back at.. Gin. She might have offered a It's nice to meet you.. if it had been nice, but the way they'd met was the polar opposite!
"Are there s-still many out there?" was what came out of her next, her front hooves nudging at the stone tiles underneath them. It would be so embarrassing to have to go out there with a crowd to stare at her!

Gin nodded once, his tail swishing back and forth absently. "Quite a few, but it should be clearing up soon. Everything is almost gone!"
He looked around for a moment, tilting his head back to move a strand of his mane from in front of his face, looking back to Isabel. She was still nervous, was there something wrong with her? Maybe it was something about himself, was he making her nervous?
He made a face and took a deep breath before speaking calmly. "I could take you out the back way, you could avoid the crowd altogether. You look like you really don't want to be here any more.."

"It's o-okay," she replied after a moment. As it was, Isabel had already caused enough fuss. And Gin probably wanted to return to his cake before there was nothing left of it.
Besides, he was making her nervous. Not for any particular reason, and it wasn't really him either, it was just his presence. Any pony's presence would have made her nervous.
"I can find my way out." Her voice was still soft, but she tried to sound convincing. "You should g-get back, your cake will all be eaten."
Then she moved, just enough to cause the bow over her tail to rustle, and she inched one hoof.. then another... in the general direction of the door. Not trying to sneak away, exactly, but attempting to show that she was perfectly capable of leaving on her own. Without screeching or causing a scene!
"I'm sorry to have ruined your display," she went on, speaking more in the last few minutes than she had in a long time. "I'm sure your cake.." that looks just like me... "...was delicious."

Gin moved to the side to make room for Isabel, giving her a very odd look as he watched her cross the room in the direction of the door in slow motion.
"Are....you okay?" He blinked, moving forward slightly to perhaps assist her, but then he thought maybe it would be better if he stayed where she was. Was she sick? Or maybe she wanted a piece of cake.. but since the crowd was so large, she afraid she wouldn't be able to get any!!
"I know!! I should have thought of this earlier! Wait right here!" Gin smiled wide and zipped past her and right out the door, fighting his way through the crowd to manage to snag two slices of the cake, putting them on a plate and very carefully after picking up the plate with his mouth, made his way back into the room with Isabel, mumbling quickly.
"You should have told me this is what you wanted!!"
