romantic wishes Tate was not in a mood to deal with those of the male gender. Unfortunately, she wasn't the sort to freely break commitments, so she was sitting at a table, setting up a game of Battleship while pretending, arduously and absolutely ridiculously, that her opponent wasn't male. Not like it mattered. She could kick a** regardless of age or gender. Sure, Battleship wasn't exactly Soul Calibur or any combat game as such, but it was something. The pieces clicked as she set each of them into place; set not so much for strategy as the fact that she was frustrated because she couldn't spell "******** morons" with her five ships. She glanced up at her opponent when he sat down. "Please set up quickly," she said, "I have another tournament soon." iStoleYurVamps When he had arrived at the appointed location and time specified, Marlo found himself staring at what had to be a very irritable young lady. Giving her a non-Xanis grin, and opting for a simple smile, Marlo sat himself down. Her words only drew an eyebrow raised. Without even talking back he began to slowly place each individual piece. "...Patience is a virtue, one however I find slightly arrogant." He said this as he place his final piece on the board. A tiny destroyer. "As you were here first, I take it you are the one to make the first move?" He seemed a bit calm about it, not to mention a bit apathetic. "That'd be correct," she said. You pompous a*****e. Tate was not in a friendly mood. "You're Marlo Xanis. Do you have a nickname? I'm Tatiana Konstantin, call me Tate." Succinct instructions to accompany her rather deadpan expression. She was not plaything this game for fun or profit, she was playing because she had nothing else to do. She didn't qualify for the Soul Calibur tournaments on this week - her rank was too high for the one, and she was too young for the other. Which sucked, as everyone there held ranks around the 200s for the region, and she was something like eighty-fifth. She looked down at her board. "D-5," she said, rolling a red and white pin marker beneath her fingers.

Yawning, Marlo covered his mouth, trying to hide his sleep deprived noise. "Uh, well, D-5..." Slowly, his eyes ran over the board. Pulling up a white marking, (almost dropping it, curse you sleep deprivation!), he placed it on the slot. "Miss." Looking up, he smiled a bit. "My turn Miss Konstantin. Or, excuse me, Miss Tate." He leaned on an arm. "A bit of advice, don't try to rush things." Pulling up a pair of white and red markers, he fingered them, not paying much mind to her, "E-9."

Her eyes flicked down again, and she shook her head. "Miss." That one was close though; her frown deepened incrementally as she marked the space. Too close. Tate played it off, though, by quickly snapping, "It's just Tate. Not miss. Thanks, though. C4."

His fingers, fiddling with the two colored markers set the red one down. Into the pile, where as the white was place in the board with a 'click'. "Miss." He smiled, slowly becoming more awake. "Sorry, it's a bit of a habit. You mention you had another game to get to? Oh, G-10 by the way."

"I do," she said, "And you missed." She put down the marker in the appropriate slot and then said, "B3."
In terse silence, she began to stack the markers into color-segregated pyramids. Not all guys were horny bastards. This one didn't seem like he deserved a punch in the face, but then, a lot of people didn't. It wouldn't do to let down her guard yet, so she offered no further information. G-10, seriously, that was also kind of close. Could he see her board? Probably not; she couldn't see his, anyway...

As she mad her mark, Marlo's smile turned to a wince. "Hit." Placing the red marker into it's slot with a click he looked up. "Good guess. F8. And what game do you have after this one?" He seemed a bit upset at the fact she'd scored first, but it didn't seem to last. "I mean, do you play competitively?"

"<********>," said Tate, which was really all she needed to say. Even the visceral feeling of joy from getting the first strike (the first blood, if you would) faded besides him getting a hit right after she'd gotten one. Ugh.
Plugging in the red token on her screen and one in her battleship (God damn it) she glared at Marlo and practically hissed, "A1."

A small smirk crept up on Marlo's lips as Tate cursed. He finally landed a hit. However, his Carrier was going down. "I take it I got something good?" He held up a red marked and shoved it in his board with a satisfying 'click'.
"F-10"

"Miss," said Tate, who was thinking about punching Marlo. She wouldn't, but she was definitely thinking about it.
Then she frowned, staring at the board. "...You know, it's cheating if you don't tell someone if they hit on their last turn or not," she said slowly, tapping a pair of tokens on the table next to her board. "I can't go until you tell me whether I hit or missed."

He blinked as he put down his marker. "Oh." Was all Marlo said to her before holding up a red pin. "It was a hit. Sorry. Haven't played this game since I was a kid."
