Because the old thread is being uber glitchy... Here's Epee's post:

Persaeus regarded her for a long while, not sure whether to be exasperated or amused by her insistence that he would wed. She was adamant that he would find a mare and dedicate his life to her, forever. His brothers may have enjoyed being bound and shackled by their mates but he didn't find the idea terribly appealing - nor did he find the concept of fatherhood tempting either. The thought of having little midgets clinging to him day in day out while he was responsible for their well being and safety did little for him. He wasn't in to the whole doting father thing and he was simply too selfish to devote time and attention to someone who wasn't him. He was man enough to admit these faults but he had absolutely no intention of fixing them - he liked the way he was now (and so did the mares he consorted with).

"My brothers are more than capable of continuing the legacy if they so choose," he replied wryly and shook his head. A small smile teased across his lips, his expression less grim than most bachelors would have been seen with when the subject of matchmaking came up. He'd heard it all before and had been openly pursued by determined mamas but they had all failed. Having a cousin inform him that she foresaw him marrying off and having little mini-mes was nothing new, his sisters frequently teased him about it though they were aware of how unlikely the outcome may be.

Rebel often liked to see his feathers ruffled!

"And much of a soquili's behaviour is based on their surroundings and upbringing, if you treated your children as you desire to be treated yourself then 'bad genes' don't feature much," he shrugged loosely as though he were privvy to the way mother nature worked. He was fairly certain that if his parents had chosen to raise him without such care, then he would probably have lacked the staggering confidence he had today. His proof lay in the behaviour of other soquili, their upbringing was beyond 'gentle' and the stallions could definitely be deemed blubbering fools. Coddling parents were to blame for this, they'd raised their children to be too soft. Oh, there was always an element of consideration required in life but sometimes it went beyond ridiculous.

"As for one such as I providing a good influence," his smile became sly and he leaned back on his hind legs to focus on his cousin once more. "I would think it is safe to say there will be those who disagree most adamantly with you in that respect but..." he trailed off and provided a rather dramatic and over emphasised bow. "I am honoured to be of assistance," he offered dryly and flashed another of his roguish smiles. "There are few who are privvy to such aid, I can promise you that much..." Again he fell quiet, absorbing the words that escaped from her lips and then he pursed his own.

"Heh, I have no issue in meeting attractive mares," he was being deliberately obtuse to her meaning of course. "But it's certainly a pleasure to be the one to introduce you to the better side of the family," he cooed with a hint of jest in his tone.

She realized there was no reason to push him, he was extremely independent and her ideas were probably strange for him to hear anyways. She felt determined to address the issue of legacy before because she was so impressed with this lineage of her family. His family needed to succeed more then hers did. But he was right; there were so many facets of life and so many different personalities at the same time that it'd be silly to ask everything of everyone. Individuals should do whatever felt best and right for themselves. Plus, his other brother's would take care of it it seemed, so thank goodness.

"I am glad to hear that." she finally added in response to his very wise comment. She would work on her behavior, especially since it was her own to cherish and figure out now. She was born to feel however she wanted, and no crazy mother of hers could dictate her life anymore. Why hadn't she realized it sooner? There was something to be said for independence. It was much more special then Cresil had ever realized. Everyone needed a bit of a push every now and then.

"Either way, I feel much lighter and almost younger then I've ever felt before. You've taught me how important my own thoughts are and how we each are allowed to do whatever the hell we want." She bowed her head lightly as if thanking him once again. There'd be many other thanks if she could have it her way. But she presumed that he understood how carefully this all was going in her heart.

Until Cresil was better with her confidence she would avoid her mother at all costs. And when the time came, it would be the perfect day to shove her newfound personality back at her mother. She wasn't born different, nor was she the worst of her kin. She would come forth and show her mother how much better she was then all of them.

"Who knows, maybe one day in the future I will need more help from you. Although unlikely, I may need help understanding stallions, of all things." she chuckled and enjoyed playing back at him. Of course he didn't need help with females, she wasn't a complete idiot. But even so, he was a special one. She hoped he knew that himself everyday.

Now was an odd time to be struck down by a rare sense of modesty - his brows rose in question at her musings and he fought to keep the surprise off his face. He had long since come to the conclusion that the mare was different from his aunt, according to the explanations he had received from his family she deviated completely and utterly from her mother's behaviour. Nevertheless he was accustomed to simpering compliments as opposed to the genuine and when she seemed to be in complete gratitude of his decidedly simplistic and haphazard gestures he was just a little stumped. Never one to be dazed for long though, he did recover and gave his head a quick shake to dismiss the glazed change his eyes had under went. She was an oddball at that, but he shouldn't have been surprised - his aunt was notorious for flitting between stallions to find the most fitting and appropriate; Cresil's father was certainly bound to possess certain quirks foreign to Angelique.

Although when she said she felt younger than ever before...

"You can't be much older than me," he pointed out bluntly, actually, he was fairly certain she was younger than he was. Admittedly there was very little difference age-wise between the pair, but if she felt old then there was definitely something wrong with her. She was not of an age where she could be world weary, not yet certainly and if she was then her mother really was a failure. World weary at this age? Good god, Persaeus would have ended his life there and then if he had sank to those levels - it was those sort of soquili that bored him and made him question why they even bothered. One could only complain for so much before they were bored and he could speak from experience; where soquili found their kicks from complaining about their current surroundings he would be sure to make a hasty retreat. It wasn't that he was a coward but even he couldn't endure such negativity for the sake of pelasure which would arguably be subpar!

He was certainly fussy in his own right.

"It's a sad day when you don't feel your thoughts are worth anything," he mused lazily, mostly to himself. He couldn't quite fathom ever experiencing such a thing himself; to think that there would be a day when he doubted his own opinion and ability. His upbringing had certainly made him vain, egotistical and any number of negative descriptions but no one could really question the security he felt - she certainly didn't, that much was clear. "And you are your own keeper," he supported her more firmly in this, his lips pressed into a thin line. He respected his parents and their opinion but he always lived by his own rules, he was not a puppet and soquili that permitted themselves to be led by such expectations were utterly ridiculous. How were those who were expected to lead and inherit meant to do that properly if they couldn't think for themselves? It was a puzzle and not one he dwelled on often, but it was there.

"Let me be frank, I sincerely doubt your mother would care to know the inner workings of your sex life; if she does then there's something inherently wrong with her and vice versa," he refrained from mentioning his aunt's faults better and revealed considerable tact in doing so. "I think if everyone tried to follow what their parents wanted, thought and felt then we would all live in a very boring and very predictable world - " he trailed off and then a roguish smile flickered onto his lips as he landed an insult to the general soquili populace. "Although you could say the majority of soquili are incredibly predictable anyway. The point I am trying to make though," he heaved a sigh and shrugged loosely, "Is that soquili like you and I wouldn't exist if it weren't for that independence... which is a shame, because the world would have no reason to continue without my shining personality!"

He looked serious, was serious to a small degree but could also see the humour in his declaration. While he more-often-than-not was subject to his own selfish desires and opinions there were periods of clarity when he could recognise the humour in his own words.

Returning to the topic at hand though...

"You would need my assistance in understanding stallions?" He sounded almost incredulous and then gave a rather racous bout of laughter. "What is it you want to know?" he enquired with curious eyes.

(( Sorry it is short and weak! Wanted to get you a tag tho <3))

She definitely enjoyed listening to the stallion. Every time he spoke she found herself completely silent with her eyes wide and attentive. She found interrupting him to be a sin. No creature should have that privilege. Plus, she'd miss out on the knowledge he shared if she talked about herself too much. But heh, it was a good thing he never had to feel worthless. She wouldn't wish that feeling on anyone! His confidence would easily block him from any of those thoughts or feelings.

Before her mind could process more of her past feelings, she gulped a bit at his sex-life comment and felt the need to only laugh after. "No no, she would not like to hear any of that. But it would be hilarious to watch her keel over in shock." Well, she could dream couldn't she? She supposed she would never want to know that either, of anyone really. In truth she had never considered the prospect before. Hopefully her cousin was just joking!

When he put it that way, independence couldn't have been too bad. She was born for a reason just like he was. "Yes... the world would definitely be lacking without your personality and voice." She chuckled and flicked her long hair out of her view. But still, she'd definitely be lacking if he didn't exist. Independence brought even more interesting creatures!

"Stallions are confusing. Besides meeting you, I have only met emotional ones. Is that common? I thought they were supposed to be strong and.. unemotional." She realized that they all seemed to act oppositely of her father. He seemed to be the best reference to what she wanted to run in to. But maybe he was just an odd case of masculinity? "Stallions I have met are just weak. I never expected those kinds to exist."

"Welcome to the lowlands!" he announced with a little flourish, he gave a bow at this to indicate that what she found peculiar was completely normal - she hadn't realised simpering stallions existed? Unfortunately they came in vast numbers and it made for a very sorry state of affairs for any mare aiming for loftier heights. However, when it came to the womanisers such as he, it was beyond a blessing. His air of confidence and supercilious nature had ensured that the mares fell at his hooves, marvelling over the strength he possessed both physically and emotionally. He had never broken down in front of a mare (had never needed to) and he'd be damned if he caved into the requests of a whining or demanding mare. Anything that whined and complained was generally doomed to absolute failure anyway - they'd end up in a dead end union that would bring neither partner any joy.

Now that made him smile - he adored this concept of karma.

"This is most certainly the home of the simpering stallion, the weak and insignificant creature that has been coddled and pampered by pacifist parents who have no concept of strength in any respect," he shrugged his shoulders loosely in a well practiced manner. At first he had been staggered by the failings of his own gender, but equally so he had been rather disgusted by the mares too. It had done wonders for his confidence - it confirmed his superiority over everyone and lifted his spirits considerably...although he didn't really need to have his spirits lifted at all, he was jolly enough as it was. "If you're after a male with a bit more spark..." he pondered this for a few moments.

A few moments turned to minutes.

"I'd probably suggest either the mountains or the deserts, the more extreme environments tend to bring out the best in a creature. However, be careful not to aim for the brooding types, they're just as bad as the simpering ones," he warned and tilted his head to one side. His brow lifted and he regarded the mare for a little while longer before speaking again.

"Unfortunately you'll find yourself largely disappointed in the Kawani Province if you have expectations that are too high..."
