So, as a lot of you know, I'm in a film photography class currently. I just recently finished shooting for the final project, which is a series of 4 prints that have to be executed perfectly (He said hes grading hard on this project. up till now I have been getting A's and B's on all my projects, so I hope I'll do ok)
and all the prints have to have a theme.
The theme I chose is something like "The many faces of Emily" Who is a friend of mine (and an amazing model! She stood still for about 10 minutes for me to take a few shots, switch cameras, and take more shots while holding a 10lb sword up, and if you look at the pictures, you know shes tiny. *also it was really windy in some of the pictures, so she stood still through her skirt flying around, and kept her eyes open. I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!! )

anyway, What I did was:
I brought my digital camera with me and shot a bunch of poses and we decided which ones we liked and which ones we didn't, and changed up the lighting and all that fun stuff, and once we got the composition down, I took the shot with my film camera. I had my digital set to Monochrome mode because the prints will be in black and white, and her little dark red head ended up not showing up a few times against her dark teal walls...so I'm really glad I did that...

As always, I haven't edited any of the pictures. I know I need to crop a few of them... so, without further adue, here are the digital shots that I decided to keep after my two day shoot.

This costume we decided to call "Blue Ninja"
...you cant tell...but her outfit is blue...

This is one that we just called "PMX" because it is the costume she wore to
the pacific media expo. (some are in color)

This one is "Purple Ninja"
again...you cant tell, but her costume is purple

This is her "Punk school girl" (as she calls it) costume.
the shirt was actually made by her for her boyfriend, which is why it is a little wonky lookin in a few pictures.

CDs.
she is wearing headphones, but you cant really tell because they are black. I wish we could have foun more CDs to spread across the floor, but those were all of the CDs in the house. T-T

Sword
these were all taken against a "Wall ball" wall at an elementary school in the cold and wind. She stayed perfectly still for a long long time, and I love her for that!

I think you'll pass but you could do with a little work on getting all your subject in frame. I noticed a few places where the top of the model's head or the shoes were cut off.
Your exposure was kind of off on some, a bit too dark in the face and in others too light. Maybe try multiple lights or a reflector to light up the face especially when the model is looking down. or away from the light.
I thought when your model faced the camera ready to attack, her legs looked strange because they were spread so far and perspective distortion.

I really liked these:
Blue Ninja 2, PMX 3 (it'd be better if the light source were behind the model and thus, invisible), Purple Ninja 3 (though it's a little blurry), CDs 1 (It'd be better with her feet in frame), Sword ... I like the wind effect but her feet were spread, like I said before, doll maid I loved this series but I felt they were all cropped too tight, demonic maid cool idea but there was so much going on it was hard to see where my eye should go ... maybe with selective coloring?, Geisha, I LOVE #2 but her fan is half cropped off.

I'm just being nitpicky so don't take offence. I like them a lot!

They ended up being cropped so tight because there was a big ugly hole in the wall right next to the only place we could shoot (it shows in Geisha #2), and on the other side was a big music room with a ton of people in there being loud and trying as hard as they could to mess up any shot I took. sweatdrop

I was a retard and forgot all of my equipment the second day I shot (that would be most of them. I only had 1 hr. the first day, and it wasn't hardly enough. I think thats only the ones that were outside. . . Blue ninja. i think)
so we had to use a lamp...a lamp singular because there was only one that we were allowed to use.
as for her legs being spread to far... that was the only way she could hold up the sword apparently... * stifles laughter* xd

thank you for your critique! I'll take all your tips into account next time I shoot !

shoulda thrown that room divider in front of the hole wink Ah well, you still got good stuff smile
Keep in mind that natural light is best for portraits anyway so if you only have 1 lamp, find a window or go outside. Models love acting warm when it's freezing out ^_^

the only time we could shoot was in the late afternoon...it was dark by 5.

the shoji screen was covering the music room. loose loose.

the film that I got turned out really well though, I'll scan the final prints and post them up here once I'm done with the class.
