The Beeb does steampunk! (Please move mods, if this is in the wrong place) But yes! The movement has reached the highest accolades of journalism! It's quite a nice review too, saying how a true steamer shall be measured by their deeds!

When I first read that piece, I was pretty impressed by how well & accurately it put Steampunk across ~ particularly with the acknowledgement it varies significantly from person to person and thing to thing.

Hooray, someone made an article about a subculture and isn't a complete idiot. I've been traumatized, so thanks for posting this.

what do you expect, its the BRITISH broadcasting channel. plus it's not like they get tonnes of money for sticking a name on a peice of clothing (hot topic, im looking at you here)
as i was saying though, they are english, and victorian times in england are for more like the more widely accepted versions of steampunk than the victorian era in america.
still, good to get a true opinion to the masses, and i feel proud to one of us now! (well, prouder!)
heres hoping it doesnt spark a fad. i like being the only steampunk where i live...

I quite like the video, which is a shame our fellow steamers outside of the UK can't see, but it does a nice job of demonstrating that really, it's just a bit of fun. biggrin
I'd quite like it to start a fad, because I'm fed up of being on my lonesome. razz

How refreshingly accurate... This is why I depend on the BBC for all of my news.
Oh, and Ms Anthrax, those of us outside the UK can read it as well! I am one. :]

I do apologise! I didn't realise people outside the UK could watch video from the BBCs website because of copyright (like that Hulu website I think it's called) but I stand pleasantly corrected!
The Beeb is indeed a redoubtable source of journalism, free from the irksome spin and irrelevant commentary of other news sources. Best of all, it's free! biggrin (If you ignore the whole television license business...)
Edit: Removed pointless question, the result of watching too much Youtube.

A valid point! To my shame I don't consider international news sources as often as perhaps I should. The closest I've come to it is reading The Onion.NB: I have no idea what's been the matter with me recently. It's like I've been trying to be unpopular and controversial. confused

Wow i was truly impressed by that DVD player. I'd love to go to a steampunk ball as, although, i love the genre and literature films etc., I would more than likely be beaton if i wore the attire around my area, without of course, a specific reason.

Fox is known in the States to be anything but "spin-free".

Knowing that the article was from the BBC, I expected it to be good, and I was not disappointed! Thank you so much for sharing.
I shall bookmark that to send along to friends who ask me what steampunk is.

I love the BBC, BBC America is nice... but sadly it cuts shows time a bit, also having to wait for Doctor who is painful... which makes the internet great! My first thought of fox news most recently is the following of Sarah Palin's book tour. I can't remember where the stop was, but they claimed that tons of people where coming to see her signing. They showed clips of said people, but it turns out they where clips from the election. When this was brought to attention they said someone messed up with the video feed. fail! razz
