Frost threaded trough the thick growth silently, thin branches from the bushes catching his fur occasionally. His ears twitched every now and then, listening for any unusual sounds. All was quiet tough, save for the sounds off birds and forest critters. That made him smile, Blizzard was getting better. He was a quick learner. Today’s lesson was about stealth and the young heir’s task was to approach his father without him noticing, to surprise him. So far the older male had not even caught a whiff of his scent, the cub was probably keeping himself downwind of him. Smart move.

Blizzard tried to be as quiet as possible as he climbed up one of the trees. He climbed until he had a clear view of Coral, his flying companion. He had decided to use her to sneak up on his father. At first he had had no idea what to do with the flying lizard that had suddenly barged in on his life, but surprisingly he had quickly grown fond of her. She was a good companion and was useful in situations such as this one. He kept his eyes on her, waiting for her signal.

Coral watched with sharp eyes as she flew over the trees, searching for the large black and blue male. It took her a while but finally she spotted his form following a forest path. She flew higher above the trees and did a looping to let Blizzard know she had found Frost. Then she started following the unsuspecting male from the air.

Blizzard smiled to himself and quickly climbed down from his perch. His gaze was pointed skyward as he ran after Coral. When e caught up with her and was almost directly under the female, he slowed down and continued forward silently. When he spotted his father he was just passing under a fallen tree and a mischievous idea came to him. Quietly he climbed up the log and hid himself amidst its leafed branches. Then he waited for Frost to show up on the tree’s other side and jumped on him.

Frost felt like he was being watched, but for the life of him he couldn’t figure out who it was that brought the feeling nor where they were. He knew it couldn’t be Blizzard. Then who and why? The Protector snorted with annoyance. Distracted by his thoughts he didn’t notice the shadow of the Ilmarinen that was following him. Just as he was passing under the fallen log he heard a rustle of leafs and the scratching of claws on tree bark. Whatever it was, he knew it couldn’t be a squirrel or the like, but it still surprised him a little when Blizzard suddenly landed on his back. He had managed to get so close without him noticing, it made him smile. “Good work, son. You did much better than last time.” He praised him. “Now do you mind getting off me?”

Blizzard’s smile was something between proud and sheepish as he slid off his father’s back. “Thanks, dad. But…I did have a little help.” He looked up at where Coral was floating above them and then back at his dad, smiling guiltily. “She, ah, followed you and brought me to you. Gave me directions from the air.” He sad carefully, wondering if Frost would approve of his idea or not. If you asked him, it was a struck of genius, but Frost might not agree, who knew.

Coral spiraled down and settled on Blizzard’s shoulder, careful not to catch him with her wings and wrapped her tail around him. “It was a good hunt, yes.” She rubbed her head against Blizzard’s cheek. “Most fun I’ve had since I came here to find you.”

The leader frowned. “So you cheated?” He continued staring at his son for a good minuet, before breaking into a smile. “But I have to hand it to you, that was very resourceful of you. Good work to you too, Coral.” He had thought the Ilmarinen would be nothing but a distraction for his son, but she proved more useful that he had anticipated. And smarter. “Well then, let’s head back. Your aunt should be bringing dinner soon.” They were on the far side of the valley, close to its entrance. Just as he was about to start leading them back he caught an new smell in the air. “Blizzard, get behind me.” He ordered, eyes and ears searching for the source of the scent.

Home, sweet home. Oakshadow had been away from the valley too long. The former Chief Warrior breathed in deep all the familiar smells. Wait, what was that? There were two others here. One of them he didn’t know, but there was something familiar about the other. Who could it be? When he saw the father and cub standing a few feet away, his question remained unanswered still. He didn’t know either of them. Did he? “Who are you?” If some other group had decided to claim the valley they had another thing coming. Even though he was alone and there were surely more Saigh than these two. He pushed that thought away.

Frost raised an eyebrow at the green stranger. What? “I think I should be the one asking that. These are the lands of the Brig’Kassrik. What is your business here?” Something nagged him about the other male, but he couldn’t figure out what it was. He felt like he should know him yet his identity escaped him. How had he gotten past Dark Ice?....Right, Frost had ordered him to get some rest. Being the only warrior, he overworking himself. The clan leader sighed mentally, the others helped as much as they could, but they needed at least one more guard. Hopefully Falknir would be ready soon enough.

Blizzard hid behind his father like he was ordered to and kept quiet. This was the first time he was present when his father dealt with outsiders and he was curious where this would go. He was sure that if things got bad, his father would win. After all it was his dad, the clan leader. He was strong and fast and smart. Though that other guy was kind of large...

Oakshadow furrowed. "You are a member of the clan?" He voiced his confusion. His scent carried the mark of the clan but the older male still couldn't remember who he was. Though the more he looked at him the more certain he became that he did know the Saigh before him. And his eyes, it was as if Perun was looking back at him. Perun. Then it hit him. "Frost?" He asked with disbelief. "It is you!" The last time he had seen him he had been a little more than a cub. No wonder he hadn't recognized him. "You know, this is no way to treat your former teacher."

Now it was Frost's turn to be confused. Former teacher? Like his brother he had been taught by his father and this male certainly didn't look like him. He began to say he didn't know him when he recalled that he had had another teacher. Or intended teacher at least. The old Chief Warrior, he was the one who was supposed to continue Frost's training, while Perun focused on Corann. He had had one single training session with him. "Oakshadow." He relaxed slightly. "It's good to have you back. And yes, this certainly is me, the clan's Protector." He said, not without pride.

Blizzard looked back and forth between the two males. His father knew that male, Oakshadow was it? Did that mean he was safe and that Blizzard didn't have to hide anymore? He didn't like hiding like a little baby, even tough he was too little to protect himself. Blizzard looked up questioningly at Frost. "Dad?"

Oakshadow looked Frost up and down, as if sizing him up. "Yes, I suppose you are the rightful leader now. I hope you will lead the clan into good fortune." Perun had been a great leader and both his sons showed promise, even tough few noticed that about Frost. But Oakshadow had noticed and to be honest he wasn't surprised that he had returned after what had happened. Frost could be selfish, but he also wanted to make his father proud, Oakshadow knew that. "Is that your son?" Oakshadow smiled, he seemed like a strong boy. "How many others have returned?"

Frost looked down at the cub. "It's okay, son, he is a friend." Then he looked back at the former warrior. "I hope so too." It was good to hear that. Oakshadow had been one of the few Saigh that thought he had just as much potential as his brother did. Well, Frost personally thought that he was much better that Corann, but anyway. "Yes, this is Blizzard." He pushed the cub in front of him. "From the original members, not many. Me, my sister and two others. The rest were rogues I brought back with me." He said with a hint of regret. He wished he had found more of the original clan during his travels. "Come, Eirwen should have brought back dinner by now. You can meet everyone over a fresh meal." He motioned for the other to follow.

He smiled and followed after the male and his cub. Food sounded good right about now. He hadn't had anything to eat since the night before. "Yes, lets. I am eager to see who have you brought here with you." He truly didn't know what to expect, but he found himself doubting that Frost had taken in anyone below the clan's standards. He was too loyal to their beliefs and traditions.

Frost laughed. "They are an odd bunch, I admit. But all of them have something to contribute to the can." He might have had his doubts about one or two of them, but they all had gained his respect one way or another. He was proud of their little group. And now another one of their own had returned, the former Chief Warrior himself. Frost smiled to himself, this was worth celebrating.
