The clouds looked thick and heavy and were dark as if they were contemplating rain. Koray certainly hoped not. He was a good ways off from the Aquarium and he simply had to go exploring today. He didn't mind water. Heck, he loved the stuff, but Deucalion would fuss and fret if too much got tracked back into his workshop. Although, the older tom had learned rather quickly to keep some extra rags and towels handy since the young Van took to hanging around.
He had never been in this part of town before. At least, not that he could remember. This place seemed busier and filled with shops and activities all over. It was rather stimulating but a window full of bright colors caught his eye. Casting his gold gaze back and forth to make sure the coast was clear before he ran, jogging up to the window. Deu told him to be careful and avoid humans. Koray promised, but he didn't guarantee against close calls. "Wow," he breathed as he looked over each of the comic book covers in turn. People in such dynamic poses, dastardly villains, and folk to rescue, it was full of new edition comics, with a few older, more carefully displayed ones towards the top of the window display. "How cool." His tail swished behind him as he drank everything in.

Kaien had walked into the comic store undected, so far. He looked around and found the area he wanted and smiled when he saw the American Comic area. He smiled and bounded over happily jumping on the table, the store was closed today. Some kind of emergeny at home or something. He was just glad to be here for as long as he wanted. He made his way to a shelf that he knew held the comics he wanted. He smiled as he pulled out a Silver Surfer comic and setteled down to read when he saw a new cat he hadn't seen before over at the window. He looked at his comic...then looked at the window. He looked like he hadn't ever seen this stuff before and seemed excited. He jumped down and walked over and talked through a screen in a window. "Hello over there. Theres a vent over a box in the back that you can get into from. If you want in to read some stuff." He said softly wondering if the other cat really wanted to come in.

The Turkish Van was reading the covers, noting some of the sillier names to take back with him. Deucalion didn't seem too much like the sort to get into comic books but there were a few that looked as if they would appeal to the Selkirk. His attention was so held fast that he didn't notice the movement inside of the store and nearly ducked down at hearing a voice directed his way. Koray glanced around before spotting the other cat inside of the store. He smiled and dipped his head appreciatively before jogging around the back of the store. Sure enough there was a box beneath a vent that lead into the store. Leaping up onto the box, he padded his way inside. He poked his head in first, looked around, then jumped to the floor. Glancing around the store with keen interest, it didn't take him long to notice the cat who mentioned the rear entrance. Koray trotted towards him, his bottle brush tail straight up in the air. "Hey there! Thanks for telling me about the way in. I probably would just sat out front, otherwise." The tom laughs brightly before pausing to introduce himself and look around. "My name is Koray. Do you come here often? This place looks amazing."

Kaien softly smiled at the other male as he introduce himself. "Yeah i come here alot. My name is Kaien. Its nice to meet you, and to find someone who wants to come here and look at these too. The Comics are lots of fun! Do you know how to read them? My Daddy taught me to cause he reads alot. I come here all the time to read when i want to get away from my crazy twin brother and my sisters. Sometimes i see my other brother but not often." He said with a smile as he walked over to the table he had been at. "Wanna see the Silver Surfer!?" he asked happily as he curled up infront of the comic again.

"Neat. Nice to meet you too, Kaien. They look like they're loads of fun and the characters look so interesting!" Koray shook his head slightly. "Nuh-uhh. I don't know how to read them. My previous owner didn't keep any, so I haven't really had much experience with them. I would love to learn how to though. Maybe you can show me! I'd love to learn." His gold eyes shone and his tail twirled behind him. Sidling over to sit next to Kaien, he looked over the Silver Surfer comic, curling his tail about his feet. "Sure! Mind telling me what's going on and where to look?" The Van looked over each of the panels, not really sure of where to begin.

"I can teach you to read! Its very easy to. Its backwards from how we read so thats weird but it gets better!" He said as he went over the American words and letters and how to read them. He told him all about the story of it and what the Silver Surfers background was. He turned the pages and showed him all the stuff and went over it all. "I'll read it to you and then you can try reading it so you know what it says. I'll help you if you get stuck! Ok?" He said with a smile as he turned to the beginging and started reading the comic to Koray.

"Huh. That's kinda weird, but okay. I'll try and keep up." Koray smiled to the other before turning his attention to soaking in everything that Kaien was trying to teach him. He picked up things quickly in general but there were a few things that got him stuck. The Van nodded and committed the Surfer's background and the story to memory. "I'd like that very much. Thank you." He settled down against the other, following along as Kaien read, occasionally having to remind himself to read backwards from what he was used to. Never having been one for paying attention to personal space, he didn't pay any notice to the fact that his side was brushing against Kaien's.

Kaien was reading to him and telling him about things as he looked over the story with him and told him about everything, making sure to explain words and things. It took him a while to notice that Koray was touching his side. He studdered in the middle of a word and felt himself blushing. He looked at Koray and smiled softly. "Yo-Your welcome." He said softly as he tried to start readng again. After a few breaths he was able to calm down and kept reading.

Koray listened intently, following the images in the panels as Kaien read. The more he listened and followed along, the easier it got to understand and keep up with. He found himself really enjoying the story and the background. "You are a good teacher. I'm picking this right up." He grinned brightly, his tail swishing behind him. "How long have you been reading these?"

Kaien looked at him and smiled softly, still kinda nervous about him being so close...even though it was nice. "Thanks. I've never taught anyone ebfore but my mommy and papa's teach me alot so i know how to do it i guess." He said with a smile as thought about it. "Since i was caught by the humans. I lived with a boy who loved them, they were from America. And he was sick so he didn't go out much, so he cuddled with me and read them to me. Thats how i learned." he said with a smile as he swished his tail as well, touching Korays a few times.

The Turkish Van made a thoughtful sound and rolled onto his back with a bit of a grin. "That sounds nice. I never got a chance to get back with my momma or my dad. I lived with an older lady and her niece. They were nice but not so much into comic books. More so soulful music and romance novels." Koray gave an exaggerated roll of his eyes before chuckling. "The music wasn't so bad. I rather grew to like it, but the harlequin romance...It was so corny." He gave a sigh and rested his hands on his chest, shifting his gaze to Kaien. "I think you're doing well for me being your first. I'm learning fast under you." The tom rolled back over and sat up. "You do know that we can't stop now. I wanna learn about everything." He laughed, flashing a big grin. "Would you be up for that?"

Kaien smiled and blushed and nodded. "I haven't read many other book boks, a few things that my mama told me would be interesting, but mostly i read the comics...and a few mangas like Loveless and...Gravitation..."He said with another blush at admitting that he reads yaoi mangas. He looked at Koray and smiled. "Well i also really like the Green Lantern! Hes over here. " He said as he got up and went to were the Green Lantern comic were. He pulled one down and called Koray over. "I like him alot, the original green lantern is my favorite. Cause theres lots of them, aliens and a dog and different people too!" He said as he opened it and began telling him about the lantern.

Koray dipped his head at Kaien's affirmation. "Well good! I look forward to it. You'll have to show me those mangas and comics of yours." He really didn't have much, if any experience with mangas or comics, with the rare exclusion of when the niece's friends swung by. They sometimes had one or two, but they never left any around for Koray to look over. "My owners didn't read very much to me...But they did dance with me to their music. That was kinda nice. I learned a bit of that. We can trade, if you'd like to learn how to dance sometime." He watched as Kaien rose and went over to the Green Lantern comics were. At getting called over, he stood and trotted over. "Neat! Show me!" He sidled close and read along, nodding at what he was getting told, oblivious to the fact that the glass along the store front was getting tapped with the first drops of rain that had been threatening to fall when he had set out earlier.

Kaien smiled as he told him about all the other green lanterns that there were in the comic books. He smiled as he went over them all which ones were his other favorites. He took down another comic to show pictures of more of them, and tell him about the others. He didn't notice the rain till thunder clapped, after the streets lit with a flash of lightening. Kaien jumped and ended up really close to Koray as he looked around in fear, his ears pressed back as he shook in fright. "Oh that sounded really close!" He said nervously, not noticing that he was holding Koray a little as he looked around for more. It went off again and he shook, scooting closer again. "Oh we'll be stuck here for a long time now..."

Koray was having no trouble at all keeping up with Kaien's favorites and the various Green Lanterns and their worlds. He smiled and nodded every so often when something sparked his interest or triggered an enthusiastic explanation from the other tom. At the crack of thunder, Koray's muscles tensed briefly before he slowly relaxed and looked to the heavily rain pattered window. Feeling himself getting held slightly, he shifted his golden eyes to the nervous Kaien. Giving a bit of a smile, his ears drooping slightly to the side, he curled his fluffy tail around him and lightly nudged him with his shoulder. "A little afraid of thunder, are we? That doesn't sound so bad to me, staying here for a while. I don't have any plans and the storm ought to seem to fly by what with quality company around, eh?" The Van offered a comforting smile with a nod. "I'm not worried about it. I can help keep your mind off of the nasty weather out there."
