Seeno Evil - Eva Clarke
Kimaria - Quinn Fletcher.

Setting - Queen Cross Hospital (Quarantine ward)

Time - late morning
PostPosted: Fri Dec 09, 2005 11:46 am

Quinn checked the doors once more. Locked. Perfect.

The last couple of days terrified people had come charging into the wards, demanding to be treated, craving a cure for their 'disease'. He had tried to tell them there was no such thing, but they wouldn't listen. It was only to be expected. People were afraid to die, knowing that death was imminent would drive the most sane man to do crazy things.

He sighed, leaning against the door and rubbing fiercely at his temples.

Eva was improving steadily, the other survivor also, but what was the point of living if things were only going to get worse? He had to try and speak to the government again, get them to do something to help the situation. It seemed a lot of them had sucumbed to the illness too...what a pain!

The thumping started again...if it wasn't that damn machine it was something else!

"OPEN UP!! WE KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE!!"

Quinn winced, jerking away from the door and released a shuddering sigh. The dead had all been moved to the Hospital's morgue now so the area was almost void of anyone, a couple of dying, Eva, the other survivor and himself. Marc sometimes checked in but he had not turned up today, the last he had heard he was going down to check on how much more space was left in the morgue in case they had to find somewhere else to put the bodies. He hadn't come back but Quinn was pretty sure he'd probably gone straight home after that.

Ignoring the yells from the mob outside he continued quickly down the corridor, pausing outside of Eva's room. He knocked with his knuckles and entered.

"Eva?"

Eva stood still against the window pane, what little light succumbing, flowing easy against her figure, and the excess, cascading beautifully in long thick cracks along the top of the ceiling, and over the duvet of her bed. Her head wobbled slightly, and the window pane creaked under the weight and force of her forehead. "... Goodbye to whatever light remains." She spoke in chorus, her voice high pitched, and her eyes boggling out from the window.

Hair tied up, coat on, ready to leave. Her hands clasped themselves about withered roses, and she stood in sorrow. The very same moth which had previously inhabited the room - and still was. Was carefully following the patterns and the cracks of the light, fluttering from crack to crack as it altered.

She stood for a good few minutes after the knocking, but her bag sagged off her shoulder in recognition, almost as if she was ready to make move toward the door. Her lips parted, and dry skin tore between harshly, ripped straight off, revealing a clear, bloody underline. Tears rolled against the pane, dripping onto the windowsill beneath.

"I don't have to do this alone."
"YES. You have to, you'll always be on your own, alone."
"Nobody must help you with your path Eva, it is for you to decide - and you alone, must choose your paths wisely, and take the correct one. Should you die in your fall against this horrendous disease which unnerved, but at the same time, excited her? Or would she take a stand out against it, and stop the darkness from spreading? Would the light ever restore completly, faithfully?"

Her mind toyed with itself, and soon, one half of her was diminished under a dark blanket, the light, pure bright side contrasting off it slightly. A cynical smile in tact as she gazed up to the hazy, dull, rainy clouds above.

"I..." --

"COME IN!"

Her position didn't alter.

He winced at the loudness of her voice, fearful the crowd outside might have heard and try to get in. He moved into the room then, closing the door behind him. Exhaling he raised his eyes to take in the image of the nurse standing by the window. What was she doing there? What could she have been thinking about? She was a patient he would never truly be able to help no matter what he did.

He took another step forwards, taking note of the moth that flew so erratically in the light.

"Eva..." His voice was unusually soft. "You're feeling better?" He knew that it was quite obvious she was physically, but something had changed in her mind. Could that be an after-effect of the illness?

He raised one hand as if to reach for her but let it fall to hang by his side, shaking his head.

"We won't be able to stay here much longer."

"I'm ready to go." Eva replied smoothly, eyes toward and still afixed outward and onward from the window, hand slowly tracing up to meet with the pane. A gasp passed her lips as the coldness pulsed her fingertips bitterly. "I'm more than ready to go now..." Her whisk about to him was quick, "where are you going?" She inquired. "I don't know if our paths are crossed..." Her voice was somewhat fearful.

The moth zimmed off the bed, and fluttered off toward the window. Eva's eyes coiled toward the side, and she watched smoothly. "And everything will die when light shines no MORE!" The shutter flew down oddly at the window, and the room was concealed in darkness.

Eva opened her fist, and made a grab for the moth as it fluttered on past her, squashing it in her immense wrath.

"And everything will die, and be trapped in loneliness forever..." She sobbed - again.

He stepped forwards, the sound of her sobs sending a strange ache through his heart. "I'm going to find the City Council - if any of them are still alive - and demand they place a quarantine on the city..." He trailed off, "after that then I'm going to find a way to cure this one way or another." He sighed, hoping that somewhere out there, scientists were already working on a cure.

"If you want to escape the city I suggest you do so today in case they take me up on my offer." He sighed, drawing closer to her.

The urge to gather her once more in his arms filled him with such strength that he had to battle it back, standing by her side would be enough...wouldn't it?

"Promise me you'll try and stay safe."

The sound of yelling echoed from down the corridor wa ssoon joined by the sound of smashing glass. It wouldn't be long before the mob were upon them.

"Have you decided what to do yet?"

Eva burrowed head in hands, raking her fine fingers through thick hair. "I'm going out to find answers to questions that need answered; for myself." She came to admit, unclenching her hand and letting the dead moth drop the floor, the shutter rolled mysteriously up as if catch had fallen. Whack! It hit straight up off the top catch, and full light burst back into the room once more.

"I don't know where this path will lead me though."

"So I guess this is goodbye?" She asked, quite resentfully, yet with a toneless expression.

Quinn gritted his teeth, hands forced into his pockets as he tried to find the words to tell her all the things that were running through his mind at that moment in time.

"Eva...I..." He swallowed, "I hate to admit it but yes, this does seem like goodbye." Sighing he shook the bangs out of his eyes and turned his gaze towards the window. "This world has always been a corrupt place, filled with people who want to destroy and ruin. Maybe this is God's way of getting rid of us, we're like a virus on this planet, spreading and destroying."

"I have a feeling we'll see each other again someday whether it be in this life or another."

"I have something to give you." He reached down into one pocket, retrieving an envelope and holding it out to her. "You must promise me not to open it yet. NOT until you see the sign." He was probably making no sense but that didn't matter, all that mattered was that she promised not to open it before due time.

"Promise me Eva, promise me you won't open it until time." His voice was firm.

He held the envelope still, not quite trusting himself to let go of it. On it's surface was scrawled a few words in his own hand.

Eva attempted a smile, frail, weak strands of hair contrasting out from the thickness of the rest in straggly, winding drops. Her eyes fell heavily over him, and she nodded in agreement. "Of course, I agree, we will, and MUST see each other once more, we can't let our small romance stop here." She half stuck her tongue out, and rolled her palms loosely together before rubbing amongst - moreso for comfort than a degree of warmth.

Her eyes soon fell over the envelope, and her lips pursed in certain interest. The twist of her head confirming that toward it. Eva spoke; "aaah?" She grabbed it uneasily, and scanned it thoroughly with her eyes, raping the contents of the words on the front. "Espi Lakopa." She spoke fluently, and her eyes boggled about it. "A sign you say? ... I believe in signs." Her voice was collected and distinctively calm.

"...." Her thoughts gathered in a final glance over the envelope, and she sighed. "I promise." In a flip of the envelope, she brought it straight into her pocket in a heavy, non-considerate draw, it somewhat crumpling in its path - and the destination to the dark depths of her smokey pocket.

"But tell me, what are those words?"
PostPosted: Mon Dec 12, 2005 1:21 pm

Small romance?

His face flushed slightly, pale skin turning pink at hearing the words. He had spent a lot of time thinking back to that moment, trying to tell himself it was a moment of insanity..but...

He shook his head, dark bangs falling into his eyes as he tried to draw in a shaky breath, hands tightening into fists as she took the envelope from him.

"Those words?" He gazed up at her, trying to will away his blush from her previous comments. "You'll find out in due time." He gave her a small smile, reaching out to pat her shoulder in reassurance.

The mob outside suddenly fell quiet, a shocked silence waving upon the people who had been so desperate to get in. Then suddenly piercing screams ripped through the empty hallways, terror and anguish clawing at his being.

"What the-!?" Quinn was cut off mid-sentence at the sound of splintering wood, smashing glass and grotesque sounds of tearing flesh. Little did they know just what lay beyond that door.

Eva smiled, eyes beneath glasses scanning him with a flirtatious attitude. "Uhm... I'll be on the look out." She mentioned seductively, her voice worsely drawn out than that of a slut, tempting a customer into dirty buisness. She crossed her legs, but the clangs, bumps and piercing noises which was about to occur in its force, left her trembling, and almost on the floor.

Eva screamed loudly, entirely terrified.

"Whats going on?!" She screamed louder, tears rolling as she looked between the door and the window.

"Stay back." Quinn yelled, drawing in a deep breath between his teeth as he fought to hold onto his proffesional composure. "Whatever happens Eva, just stay here!" He glanced around the room, eyes settling on the large window. "Actually...I have a better idea." He picked up the chair that stood by the bedside and raised it high, muscles in his arms tensing as he thrust forwards.

The window shattered, a spray of lethal rain that showered out onto the concrete on the other side. He set the chair down by the window to act as an aid for the woman if she needed to make a quick escape.

"If you need to get out of here use this way and keep hidden." He tried to stop himself from trembling, wincing at the echoed screams of the people outside. "I'm going to go see what has happened."

He moved towards the door cautiously, pausing to glance back at her perhaps for the last time.

When he looked at her he didn't see a slut.

He saw a wonderful nurse who saw things realistically.

Strange how insanity is sometimes the only sane view on things.

Eva sniffed and whimpered helplessly, her hands jittering around and odd veins sticking out amongst bone, little flesh left, stone cold, and pure white. Her head shook, and her gaze kept between the door and the window. "Please Quinn." She begged, legs wobbling as she neared the edge of the window, waving away some cobwebs from the corners, and she picked at some shards of glass, threwing them idly out the window as she kept in conversation with the doctor.

"Please, just be safe." Her hand moved to her pocket, and it clenched on hard, the letter within crumpled in response. "I will find your answers, and I will do this for you. Just... Just keep safe." With a final glance, her gaze fully fixed upon the window. No going back.

"I l-- lo-- lo-- lov-"

She was gone - without completing her sentence, her hair dissapeared from beneath the window in a full flow up, and within seconds, she descended sucessfully.

Eva had only begun her journey.

He gave her one last smile, standing at the door as he watched her clamber through the window in an attempt to make an escape.

Be safe...be happy...Eva. He felt a stinging sensation start in his eyes, a feeling he hadn't felt in a long, long time. Being a doctor meant that he had to force emotions away from himself, become similar to a robot, caring for everyone else except from himself.

Since his graduation he had been focused solely on his patients, becoming a better doctor and helping make life better for those in need. It was his calling in life and right now he was failing that. He had let the people suffer by hiding the truth from them and now he would pay the price with his life.

He didn't expect to get out of here alive, not when the crazy mob was running rampant within the halls of the ward. Not when he had no energy left.

So with one last glance over his shoulder at the window...at his fading freedom, he slipped from the room never to step foot in it again.

~~~
The corridor was dark...light...dark...light. The bulbs flickered on and off in such a vibrant fashion that it stung his eyes. The fizzing of electiricty crackled through the air and a few meters away the corridor was pooled with blood. As he looked closer he saw the imprints of paws on the polished floor, belonging to a dog maybe?
The sudden growl from behind him led him to believe that his guess was correct and with reflexes that surprised even himself he side-stepped the mongrel's attack.
The dog's wet paws skidded on the slick floor, its body landing on the ground with a sickening thud. Backbone shattered.
Quinn's heart felt as if it was going to explode, a spread hand pressing over his chest as he gazed at the writing beast in front of him. It looked like a dog but...but from it's bleeding sides strange tooth-like objects pointed up and out like sharp razor blades.
He moved gingerly forwards, stepping over the blood and moved further up the corridor. He wanted to get away from that monster as quickly as possible.
The last thing he expected was to hear the growls and barks of that back-broken mongrel, and even less did he expect the thing to get up and give chase.
He head the click of claws against the ground, heard the snarl as the beast opened its jaws and felt the tug of something grab his arm, forcing him sideways and off his feet.
Darkness consumed him and in the dark his breathing faltered.
