User ImageThe morning was beautiful. A bright, flaring, golden sun bathed the chilly morning air in warmth. Birds flitted about in the trees and sung to the heavens above. The sky was blue with very few clouds; making the beginning of the day perfect for all the inhabitants of the island.
A loud roar rang through the jungle that was followed by a hiss, "It's so . . . Disgusting! What a beautiful sun! A blue sky! What madness is this?! Are you trying to punish me more?" Sara spit the words, each one filled with rage. Swiping a paw into the air, she scratched at nothing and gave a disgusted growl.
Her eyes glowed with a gold appreciation, as she eyed the cloudless sky. "I can change that," she whispered and grinned deviously. Off in the distance thunder boomed. Everything was quiet, and then a soft voice, soothing and scolding flitted through her mind, "Don't do this. Please, darn it Sara! I mean it."
"Sorry brother," Sara smirked and in her eyes a flash of lightning was reflected. Clouds rolled in; thick and eerie, nearly black and smoky grey covered the skies in chaos and thunderous cries of rage roared into life, as Sara unleashed her wrath of power on the island.

User ImageHe awoke to a high sun that blazed high overhead. Heavy eyelids threatened to catch more sleep, as Erebus yawned and tried to get up. His body ached after a long run from the night before, and he had not fed either. The gazelle had run off into a thickly tree layden area where he didn't dare go.
Closing his eyes for a moment, he thought to catch a few more minutes of shut eye and then he'd go find someone or something to drink from. But when he opened his eyes again, the world around him was alive with thunderous cracks of lightning. Erebus jumped to his feet and caught sight of a pair of white wings. Little prey, little prey that has wandered my way, how tasty are you? Erebus thought to himself and stalked quietly toward a bush to hide under. He'd come up behind the lion . . ."A lioness," he corrected himself, and sink his teeth into her neck. She'd fall under his dreaming spell and would awake disoriented, and believe it was all a bad dream. Erebus held in a chuckle, as he moved ever so close to his target.

Sara snapped around on her haunches almost instantly to face a threat, as she felt the dark presence of a demon shadow her. Her glowing eyes flared with hostility while she looked the intruder over. Sarafina flexed her claws, as they sheathed and unsheathed every few seconds. She was vulnerable and weak now, she couldn't hold her own that well in a fight so soon. Sara decided to calm herself and composed her body language to seem harmless, but she kept her claws at the ready, as she sat with her tail curled over her claws. "Who dares to intrude on my time?" her voice was full of command and power, that she wished she still had within her body.

He nearly jumped out of his skin. This lioness was . . . different than any others he had fed from. She had a darkness that surrounded her, yet something lively and good shone in her eyes, even if they looked intimidating. "I'm sorry madame, please excuse my rudeness. I didn't know anyone else so beautiful roamed this part of the island," play it as the charmer, he thought, and then you'll have your way. Erebus gave a genuine smile and chuckled. Of course, she was a fallen one, why he hadn't recognized it before was beside him. The peacock feather and the markings along her body gave it all away, but she seemed harmless enough. "I'm Erebus, and who do I have the pleasure of meeting madame?"

"Beautiful? I'm the image of perfection," Sara smiled kindly, or she tried at least. He wasn't so bad, not for a demon anyways. But his mind was twisted and bent to fit someone elses' needs, and for that she felt pity toward this dragon. He was created from nightmares and madness. Sara could smell the sickly sweet scent of magic that surrounded him. "Erebus I'm Saraphina, or you could call me Sara," she faltered in her position and collapsed forward, falling to the ground. Fear struck her like a blow to the face. He's seen a weakness, she thought panic stricken as her body tensed and readied to fight.

Erebus chuckled, but the good natured laughing faded. He could sense her weakness as soon as she hit the ground and felt her panic and fear. This got him ready for a hunt. Erebus figured the lioness would either fight or flee, and how he hoped she would run, it gave him a wild adrenaline rush and awakened his murderous side. "So it's Sara? What a lovely name for one so perfect," Erebus grinned and circled her, "I wonder how you taste. Oh your blood has to be sweet! A delicious morsel that has fallen right into place, or isn't it you've fallen from the skies," his knowing turned him insane. Erebus couldn't wait to sink his teeth in, but why wait? He dove right for her neck, his claws ready to grab hold and keep his prey in place.

Sara picked herself up and smiled sheepishly. "Yes, a lovely name for a perfect lioness," she repeated his words. She hadn't felt this scared in centuries, but she hadn't been a demon's prey either for a while. Her smile turned into a frightened baring of her teeth, as she lunged out of the way. Sara forced her legs to move as she ran like hell, his claws just raking her side.

Erebus stood there and counted down, "Five, four, three, two, one," he whispered the last number and took off at a fast paced jog. He was catching her too easily, which bored him, so he decided why not give her some hope she could escape, and lagged behind for a few seconds, only to catch up again. Ducking under low hanging branches, jumping over fallen logs, and running through overgrown rose bushes, complete with abnormally large thorns, he was determined to catch this fallen angel. He hadn't tasted her kinds blood since he was trapped as a guardian to the Gates of Hell.

Sara made sure she led him to her part of the jungle. Here she made the plants overgrown, and soon they'd be running through a maze; a maze only she knew inside and out. Sara tried using her wings, but every flap hurt like a knife being pushed into her flesh slowly. Lunging toward a small opening in the side of a rose bush, she maneuvered her way toward a hidden cave at the back and hoped he would be too big to follow. Thorns tore at her skin and caused small gashes that began healing instantly; droplets of her blood being left behind on the roses.

Erebus noticed the change in surroundings. Large rose bushes were everywhere, with a few giant trees and rocks randomly throughout the landscape. A small bit of appreciation for her home made him smile and stop to look around. Something . . . happiness sparked inside. There was something about this place that made him smile, and for a moment he forgot about his prey, but the sweet scent of her blood hit him, and he was back on the run again. Erebus almost missed seeing her charge into a hole through one of the rose bushes, and he followed after. He almost gave up, but made it out to find himself at the opening of a cave. It was dark and at the back a faint gold glow faded as Sara got farthere away. "Oh no you don't!" he called after her, and heard the echoes come back to him.

Sara shivered as she heard his call after her and the echoes didn't seem to stop for what seemed a century. She slowed her running to an easy trot and ducked behind a giant rock quietly, maybe just maybe he'd bypass her. Holding her breath and eyes shut, she listened as his footsteps got closer and closer, until he was right there. She was ready to charge at him and knock him down, then run again, but as she made up her mind to attack, his tail brushed up against her. Sara opened her eyes and unsheathed her claws.

"Ah, there you are my pretty. There's no escape from me. Ever," Erebus smiled in the dark and caught sight of her glowing gold eyes. "I won't kill you. It's just a sharp prin-p***k, and then it's all over," he lowered his mouth to her neck and kissed her, right when he felt a sharp pain on one cheek. Four long gashes bled along his face and oddly it felt like a caress rather than a whack to the face.

"Yoy can't have anything from me without a fight," Sara frowned and felt her hosility return as he kissed her neck. How dare a thing like him ever touch her without her saying so. She swiped him right along his cheek and took a step back to see where she could slip away, and then the smell of his blood hit her. "You bleed? A demon bleeds?" She laughed cruelly and felt some energy enter her body. Seeing her chance, Sara jumped to his right and slid past him toward the opening of the cave and back out into the rosebushes.

Erebus grinned, "That sounds like a challenge I'm willing to take." He was astonished as she managed to slip past him again, but it made it all the more fun. Erebus turned around and chased after her again. She seemed quicker this time and he put on a boost of speed. He was bleeding, which meant he had little time. If he didn't feed soon, he'd lose his body.
Erebus came out to the roses again and caught her, as he lunged and landed on her back she collapsed under his weight. This time he wouldn't talk, he needed her blood. Erebus sank his teeth into her neck and savored the taste. Under him, her body went limp and soon she was in a deep sleep.

Saraphina felt the weight of his body on hers and fell to the ground helpless. She tried to fight him off, by bucking him off, but her body was still weak and so was she. Soon she fell into a daze, and before she knew it, Saraphina was asleep.

A few hours later, Sara woke up with a start. She looked around on full alert and found herself in her cave. For a moment she believed it was all a dream, but the thunder outside boomed. A flash of lightning lit the sky and her home. Maybe this one's a natural storm, she thought trying to convince herself. I was dreaming, it was a dream. Shaking her head at herself, Sara stood up and walked to the entrance of her cave. She needed fresh air, that was all. She was fine. Sara felt along her neck quickly and found there to be no puncture wounds. Her energy was running on full and so was her power, so it had been all a bad dream. It was a nightmare, Saraphina told herself as she soon fell asleep again in the entrance to her cave.
