It was late evening, and the white lion was reclining along a small river, his tail teasing the water's surface. He had decided to spend a moment meditating, and was merely relaxing after the calming exercise. It was always too easy to slip into a contemplative mode after clearing the mind, and the idea of wondering if he had made the right choices in life always nagged him. It was an odd sensation, knowing that you had children out there in the large world, but never seeing them. He knew that they were fine, sure, but it wasn't the same. He didn't know them.
With an irritated sigh, he slapped the running water's surface with his tail. He needed to drop those thoughts, quickly. They were fine, and he knew that for a fact. There was no reason to think otherwise. He was content with where he was, happy as well. It was his type of life, the quiet life in a secure pride. Respect all around, and bounty around to those that wished for it. So why question his younger self? Bah, the ramblings of an old man. He peered at the water's surface, the reflection being jagged as the water was anything but still.

She did not usually venture out so early in the night but the sun was well down and the moon was full. She had plenty of light to wander the forests by and was enjoying the quiet. It seemed as if the whole of the world was resting that evening. Taking time out to leave all the cares behind and be at peace. She did not think it would last but it was good while it was there.
It was while her mind wandered that she noticed splashing coming from further up stream from where she was wandering across a deposit of rocks. Raising a brow she followed the sound until she caught sight of the white lion not far from her. "... trying to find truth in the depths?"

He glanced over, noticing that he was alone no longer. He shook his head, his wet tail dripping as he dangled it just above the ground. "Merely breaking my reflection on the water; it would be a danger to let it linger on such a lovely surface. It lies, for I could surely not be as flawless as the water leads me to believe." Which was lies anyway (or merely a little joke, arguable), as the water wasn't smooth enough to create a perfect reflection.
"Though I am mildly surprised to see one up so early." Lions kept their own hours, but it seemed like most here were more nocturnal than anything. The moon would offer it's light to those that needed it, and Shalkan was always grateful for it.

"The water never lies." She shook her head as she hopped down the rocks and moved closer to the other. "It reflects only what you show it" That was the one thing you could trust about it. What you saw there was truth, or at least she'd always believed such and liked the thought.
"I am usually not awake so early. Something woke me, a feeling i guess" She shrugged her shoulders, the wings marked into her fur shifting with the movement.

Shalkan eyed her for a moment before bursting out with laughter. "I fear that might not always be the case. I know I could never be that handsome." No. He was older now. Not old yet, but he wasn't what the water wanted to show him, and he knew better than to believe it.
"It is always enjoyable to witness the last of the sun's rays before she sleeps in the west." He rather enjoyed the sun before he had joined the pride, but the moon was just as welcoming. Besides, at least the moon wouldn't harm him in unbearable heat when she would shine her brightest. "Though indeed, there are times when one awakes early for no reason other than an early start for the day."
He offered her a slight bow. "I've seen you around before, but never introduced myself. Shalkan," he straightened out, "And a pleasure."

She was slightly taken aback that he .... he laughed at her. No one laughed at her like that, it was rude. "Well ... next time i will keep all compliments and opinions to myself then." She huffed slightly. See what happened when she was nice.
"I can not say i enjoy the sun." She had never come to like the powers she'd been blessed with. They were a burden she preferred to keep away from since she was able. "That is why i am not usually awake this early. But the sun has set enough that i am free to walk as i please." She nodded her head slightly at his introduction. "I am Junni'enu, though most of my family just calls me Junni"

Hm. He paused, gathering his thoughts before replying. "A pity, as I thought your own thoughts were quite interesting." He had merely been making a comment, and she had been kind enough to bolster him up. And him making a small joke out of it at his expense seemed to be...not at his expense. "I apologize."
Shalkan nodded. "I can say I enjoy the embrace of the sun and the moon, but the moon has always been the more pleseant of the two for me." He offered a smile. to her, hoping that he had soothed out whatever he had done. "The sun is not kind when she is angry, which always seems to happen when she is at her highest. The moon is always pleseant, and I enjoy her company."
He chuckled, "though, it is nice to have a different sort of company at the moment. I don't usually chat, I'll be honest."

".... i'm not very good at jokes." Her ears fell slightly as she sat down. She had her mothers temper more often than not and it wasn't really a good one if you wanted to be humorous. She always took things too seriously. "It's a family trait i think."
She sighed softly to herself and nodded. "The sun is not kind to most. She is far too powerful to worry about what complaints we have of her. The moon at least is kind and gentle." She smiled as she looked up toward the sky. "She just asks that we do without her light every once in a while so she can rest."
She was glad she'd always liked night better. It made thinking easier without the opressive heat. "I don't talk much either ... i think because others would rather have me listen than deal with my lack of any sense of humor"

He pondered for a moment, a good way too approach the situation. He had known others in the past that were not quite light-hearted, and in the end he had made enemies out of them. He really didn't want to do that this time.
"Well," he started carefully. "It's not always a terrible thing to be serious. Keeps the most lighthearted characters in check with reality." Hm. That didn't sound as good as it did in his head. He shrugged, giving up on the whole idea.
"Besides, just because your humor is a little on the smaller side doesn't mean you wouldn't be interesting to discuss things with." He flicked his tail, most of the water finally escaping from his tail-fluff. "Sometimes it's the more quiet ones that have all the knowledge."

"I.... suppose someone has to balance everything out." She nodded a bit. If there weren't serious individuals around then everything would be a joke and nothing would get done. "If the silly ones ran things ..." She laughed softly to herself at the idea.
"Do you think so?" She tipped her head at his last observation. "I guess that being quiet does give you more time to think about things and to observe."

"Exactly. Even though we grow up, some of us don't lose that childish spunk. Just think of how the world would be if all our leaders were too busy playing tag to think about how the changes in the weather could indicate herd migrations." Okay, so that example was a little out of maybe both their leagues, but he felt like it worked all right.
He smiled at her other comment. "Precisely it. I'm not the most loud member of our lovely pride, but sometimes I don't take into account things that I perhaps should." And hey, it was a pretty big thing for a guy to point out his faults. He had them, and some of them wouldn't change, but at least he was aware of them. "Gotta watch out for them," he said with a wink.

"I am sure there are some leaders out there that are childish just like that." She shook her head with a soft snort. "If everything is in balance then for each stead fast leader there must be one who is soft." It was an odd thought. Thankfully that had not happened to the pride though. She doubted her family would have put up with it any more than what they had gone though.
His second comment caused her to tip her head slightly. "But one can not know everything or be aware of everything. If you were then you could never learn anything and there would be no real point in life ..."

He pondered on her thought again, a little amused at how she tilted her head. Approaching a way to comment, he wondered just how much he should divulged on himself. Perhaps some now, perhaps some later; there was no need to rush anything, especially when it had to do with one's self.
"Ah, but you could find a point in life. That point being to guide others in their lives, even though one might be biased as to what is good, and what is bad." He thought about how she favored the darkness of night, and some might find that terribly odd, or 'bad'. He thought it was different for everyone, and either time of day didn't mind him, as long as he got enough sleep. "Though I have to admit, it might get a bit boring to be so selfless after a while."

She thought about that for a bit, ears ticking slightly. "... i don't think i could be that nice." She shook her head eventually. "I wasn't meant to be some sort of guide for others. Though it does sound like a noble way to live if a bit stressful after a while. If you always lived to guide others you would begin to miss things in your own life and that is never worth it. No one should give up their life to make someone else's happy. You should be able to do both."
If that was what you wanted to do anyway. She rather enjoyed her quite life without having to deal with answering someone's questions about how to live. Learning how to live was hard enough for her.

"Hm." Another point taken. "It is only stressful if you let it be so. I like to help, but I admit, I have a limit like any other and wander off to a bit of solitude. Hunting for herbs is mine, and I'm sure your nocturnal habits help in yours." He knew that this pride was different, but outside, most were asleep at night.
"I think you are doing both," he mused. "I mean, you're being quite nice to me, aren't you?" He smirked.
