Under the pale moon, Shalkan had decied with Junni to hunt for herbs. His little stockpile had begun to grow low, as experiments in figuring out good ways of healing hadn't quite gone as well as he thought they would. Some seemed to be easier to locate within the moon's soft glow, and thus, he was hunting for plants in the dead of night.
He paused, waiting where he had seen the dark blue lioness earlier. It was near the time they had planned to meet, and he had no doubt that she would come. He had gone through and decided just what he needed; some important, and some merely for viewing's sake. Sometimes all one needed to feel better was a pretty flower, a soft scent to help them perk up.

She had gone to talk to her family for a bit while she hid from the daylight and was running a bit late. She had told Shalkan that she would meet him and didn't want to be too late so she scrambled, trying not to look like she was scrambling, though the underbrush. As she neared the spot she'd said they could meet she slowed.
Sliding under a giant tree root she spotted the solid white form of the male. ".... i hope i'm not too late?"

His ear caught a sound, moment before he heard her voice. He turned to greet her, shaking his head. "Not at all," he commented. "I hope you don't mind a bit of a smaller pace," he added on. "I'm not usually up this late, so I might pick my path a little more carefully."
"Let's go." As the trees above blocked out some of the moon, it was a little slow going. Patches of moonlight were welcoming after bumping into an unseen tree stump, and the white lion paused to take a breath. At least he hadn't fallen in an awkward position; it wouldn't do good for a shaman to get himself injured.

She'd tried not to laugh or make comments as the male bumped into things or took awkward steps through the trees. She could see better in the dark since she spent most of her time there and had no trouble picking her way over obstacles that the other seemed to not see. Eventually when he paused she couldn't take it any more.
"Not used to walking in the dark are you?" She raised a brow as she paused beside him.

He felt a little flustered, but did his best to not let it show. "I only come out this late when I need to." It wasn't that he..okay, so he couldn't see too well, but it was mostly because he'd need to learn to feel his way around than just only depending on his eyes. The moonlight helped, but it was far less brighter than the sun.
His pale grey eyes glanced around at the ground below him, taking note on the few small bundles of plants he could see. He probably hadn't gone out far enough from the normal gathering area of the pride; they'd need to go out a little further to locate what he would need. "Figures," he sighed. "Figures what I need grows slow to replace what had been previously taken." He always tried to be careful in not stripping an area clean, but he could only do so much. The Earth had to do the rest.
"Ah well, it shouldn't be a whole lot further, and we'll still be plenty within the borders."

"You know. Maybe when you plan night expeditions it might be a good idea to hide in the dark all day? That way your eyes get used to it and it would be easier to see? Just a thought." It seemed to work for her so why not? and that way he wouldn't have to stay in the dark all the time. Just when he needed to for gathering.
Seeing him look around she had an idea. "Are there any landmarks i can look for? Since i can see better than you out here i could try to get us where ever it is you need to be without letting you trip on things?"

He paused again, closing his eyes for a moment. He knew it wouldn't work as well as what Junni had suggested, but it might help a little bit more than what was going on now.
He slowly opened his eyes...and it was the same. "Maybe," he replied. "Maybe I just need to get used to this more."
He listened to her request, thankful for it. "There's nothing directly marking where they grow," he replied. "Though the little flowers reflect the moon's glow quite well, and that's why I usually look for this plant at such a late time."

"Not everyone is meant to be so nocturnal." Even the rest of her family wasn't and they'd always been part of the pride. Some were just more prone than others she figured.
"So look for glowing flowers..." That seemed easy enough. She slipped ahead of him slightly so she could find a path in the direction they'd been going that wasn't going to cause him to trip.

He smiled, and called out to her back, "What if I might want to be?" though he wasn't sure that she heard him. The tip of his tail twitched as he tried to decide just what to do. And it wasn't only about how to move around in the dark, either.
Oh well. He started to take slow steps forward, following the trail that she was leading, though certainly not as adept as she was.

She had missed what he'd said in her attempt to concentrate on not making some sort of snide comment about non-nocturnal's and trying to walk in the dark. She was trying to be nice and that wasn't nice.
".... there's a big root here." She tapped it with a paw." Don't fall over it. You'd look really silly face first in the dirt and i'd have to laugh." She turned her head so she could grin back at him as she stepped over the root.

He was almost tempted to trip over it, but then it might not have the outcome that he'd want. So instead, he slowly placed his paw out, locating that root. He stepped over it without incident, if a little slower than her. Okay, a lot slower.
He narrowed his eyes at her grin, but he smiled back. This was a lot more fun when he wasn't doing it on his own, bumbling around like a fool.

She paused in a slight clearing and tipped her head. "Are those the flowers?" She could see some flowers that were brighter than she was used to seeing out in the dark.
If they weren't then maybe she could just ask what they were anyway. They were pretty.

He glanced over, feeling a bit of thrill. Perhaps they weren't quite as picked through as he had thought. "Perhaps so," he said, making his way over there to investigate.
After nosing around for a moment, he confirmed. "Yes. There's a plant that seems to flourish growing near these flowers. Kind of like a leech, I must admit, but it's the easiest way to find them."
He got to work, using his teeth to pull out the long roots of the stringy plant that intertwined with the flowers.

She scrunched her nose at that. "Leeches? Ew..." She'd only seen them a few times in some of the more stagnant pools but they always smelled horrible. "If the plant is useful why does it have to smell that bad?"
She eyed the flowers and the plants he was pulling from around them. "Do they taste as bad as they smell?"

He laughed. Smells didn't bother him too much, but it was a point of getting used to it. There were some plants that still wanted to knock him off his feet, though, and he only got those ones if he really had to.
"Only the roots smell the worst," he assured her, doing his best to get them in the pouch around his neck. He always struggled with it, but paws weren't really meant to work like that. He'd need to find someone, smaller and more agile, to help him. Someday.
"The light scent of the flowers can help dispell the stench, but I've got to cover up the ground I unearthed, first." Otherwise the odor would linger for even longer. At least paws were pretty good for pushing things around and pressing the soft soil back to how it (mostly) was.
