The Setting

A large forest during a thunderstorm.
The forest itself is nearly unlimited in size and number of trees, but many small clearings dot the landscape.
The ground is covered in leaves, broken branches, and the occasional fallen tree. Lightning frequently strikes the tallest of these trees.

Kiisho's Rules of Engagement

* No restraints are placed on shikai.

* All character accessories are allowed, and no restrictions will be placed on the use of said items. (Within the limits of the guild rules that is.)

* All kido is allowed, and no restrictions are placed on the number of kido that may be cast in each post.

* This is a battle simulation, if death occurs, it is not permanent by any means, and will be ignored for all guild purposes other than the outcome of this spar.

* This fight is separate from the happenings of the Sereitei, and for all plot purposes, never happened.

* The purpose of this spar is training and experience gain.

* OoC is discouraged, but if either party wishes for a conference regarding a post, it may be held.

* A win is defined as either subduing the opponent by physical force, "killing" the opponent, or by forcing the opponent to expend all of his reiatsu.

* A loss is defined as being the combatant who meets the prerequisites in the above mentioned definition of a win. Or by a surrender from either party which is defined as the placing of your weapon on the ground in front of you, and bowing your head in defeat.

* A draw will only be given if both parties expend all of their reiatsu during the same sequence of two posts, or if both parties meet the conditions of a win or a loss within the same sequence of two posts.

* Fight hard, fight fair, have fun.

Kinsetsu sat perched on a tree stump, which typically would not be something of note except that it was in the middle of a thunderstorm. Typically one would seek the nearest shelter to avoid the drenching that ensued. Kinsetsu on the other hand admired the natural phenomenom that was a thunderstorm and instead felt the need to feel its wrath, in order to appreciate its power.

His observations were short-lived as he saw in the distance a figure approach. It was clear it was a shinigami but he could not yet make out the facial features that would give the identity away. Due to his new curiosity with the stranger he proceeded to yell out

"Who goes there?" His tone was dry but not to the extent to be deemed completely unfriendly.

A smile crossed Kiisho's face as he heard the other shinigami call out to him. It was good that he would be able to point out another's location while in the midst of a chaotic thunderstorm. He took several slightly faster steps forwards, and raised a hand in greeting.
"Greetings, my name is Kiisho Hayashi, a member of squad five. Are you here for a specific reason, or do you just enjoy meditating in thunderstorms?"
He chuckled lightly to himself, and ran a hand through his hair, brushing the now-wet bangs out of his eyes.

Not at all apprehensive Kinsetsu accepted Kiisho's hand and shook it. He was although surprised to see another individual in what many would consider dispicable weather.

"Pleasure ot make your acquaintance. I've met many within your squad including Captain Yamoto. My name is Kinsetsu Ichikuri, 5th seat of the the 12 division. Me being part of 12th division may explain why I'm sitting in the middle of this storm. We enjoy observing and discovering new phenomenom's. May I ask what brings you here?"

He walked ever so calmly to kiisho's side as he looked past him into the horizon.

Kiisho smiled warmly, and shook Kinsetsu's hand firmly.
"That would indeed explain it my friend. As for me, my zanpakuto and I share a symbiotic relationship with thunderstorms. That being the case, it is not so strange for one such as myself to be out for a walk in poor weather." He chuckled lightly, and smoothed his hair back a second time. "My being here is more of a whim than anything else. It seemed like a strong storm, so I thought I would go examine it."

"Well it would appear you are not the only one. I have an intrinsic nature to look beyond the mere visable environment. You could say I see things a bit more clearly than others."

He lifted the dark wet hair from his face, revealing the piercing blue eyes with no iris.

"It is part of my essential being to perceive everything in its smallest details, which has allowed me to see that all is really the same at its initial level. Your thunderstorm based zanpakuto does intrigue me. Maybe you can give me the pleasure of witnessing it.."
He let his finals words trail a bit to give the indication of his interest in witnessing a spirit. In order to increase his understanding of all existence he needed to observe as much as possible.

Kiisho smiled warmly, and took a seat on a nearby tree stump, completely oblivious to the driving wind and rain around him.
"You are wise to look beyond what can be seen. I myself am the same way during my battles. You might say that I have the ability to see things that others do not." His eyes twinkled, seeming to glow for a moment, then he continued. "In truth, my zanpakuto allows me to see the energy particles in the air, and consequently, manipulate them. Primarily, this is through the production of electricity, which I can then use to do whatever I wish, so long as it is within the boundaries of the element itself." He drew his blade and lay it at a horizontal angle across his lap. "Many assume that Ikazuchi is merely a lightning zanpakuto, and that my abilities are limited to the creation of lighting. However, Ikazuchi has a unique ability, something that is extremely useful in battle." His finger traced the thunder-symbol embedded in the hilt wrapping, and Kiisho seemed to take on a wistful look for a moment. "You see, Ikazuchi works on the principles of exponential growth." He paused, "You should consider yourself luck, as you are the first I have told this. But be warned, simply knowing how my zanpakuto works will not help you." He chuckled lightly, "I doubt you have anything to worry about though." His hand moved back to the blade, and he placed a single finger on the actual metal. "You see, at first, I am limited in what I am to do, and the amount of electricity I am able to produce, at this time is when I am most vulnerable. However, there is an additional factor in the equation. Every movement, every shifted stone or air, produces energy. Even the light in the air is made of raw energy, and I am able to harness it the moment it moves." His right hand moved to the hilt of his zanpakuto, and he lifted it from his lap, keeping two fingers of his left hand on the blade. "Unari o sono shikaze, Ikazuchi."
Beginning at the tip of the blade, Kiisho's entire zanpakuto disentegrated into raw energy, swirling around his hands and wrists, slowly solidifying into twin bracers, each outlined with thunder kanji and symbols, and leading up to five chains, each attached to five finger gauntlets, which bore the same thunder kanji as the bracers. Once the release was complete, Kiisho moved his right finger, pointing at the bracer on his left hand.
"These bracers are able to break down and store a nearly unlimited amount of electrical energy, which I can then use in the place of reiatsu, or simply as lightning itself." His hand moved to point at the finger-gauntlets. "These, and the chains attached to them, act as amplifiers for the lightning, as well as my body's energy in general. The specific amplification properties of the chains are hard to explain, but essentially they are able to convert a single molecule of energy into trillions of molecules, increasing the sheer volume, as well as the destructive force of the lightning, by amounts that must be seen to be understood. The same is true for the use of kido while in my released state. However, it is more specific as far as kido is concerned, and is limited to a factor of a single ten for the amplification, both in size and power." Kiisho stood, spreading his arms wide, and bowing slightly at the waist, "As for the other powers of my zanpakuto, they are better observed than explained. Shall we?"

(sorry for the long wait on this just forgot about it for a bit)

Kinsetsu had listened attentively to the Kiisho description of the ability his zanpakuto contained. Th ability this shinigami possessed would create the ultimate observational study. His eyes could perceive particles to watch one who had the ability to manipulate those particles through the form of electricity would be quite the site. His thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the transformation that was occuring in front of him.

The blade that once lay in Kiisho's hand had disintegrated from its original form. The particles moved in rapid motion and the kinetic energy created from this movement sent the slightest breeze across Kinsetsu face. He had witnessed transformations in the past that would cause significant disturbances to the environment they occured in but it was not always the demonstration of power. The manner in which Kiisho performed his transformation was true power within his eyes. Many did transformations with no control of the spiritual particles causing the huge disturbances in the air that to the normal observer seemed devastating but in reality one who could control the spiritual energy such as Kiisho had demonstrated presented true power. The swirling particles eventually materialized into small bracers connected to chains that went upon each of Kiisho's fingers. His weapon was small in image but brought even greater respect for one to confined the spiritual energy in such a condensed manner. His sentiments were supported by what Kiisho had to say next.

His ability lay within the storage ability of his chains and how he could manipulate it. A key factor came from what he previously mentioned about his exponential growth. With his element being lightning if he could only use a typical lightning bolt it would be dangerous but likely not deadly for a shinigami. The fact that he could increase the volatily made it very dangerous. The exponential growth also played upon the electrical energy collection ability. There was certainly enough electrical energy created in the air due to frictions that occured in movements therefore he would never technically run out of energy to collect. He could enhance what he had collected and increase it effectively having an unlimited access to energy to use with attacks or defenses. It would be quite a daunting task to defeat this shinigami.

Having done his analysis in the few seconds he could afford to wait he drew his sword. The sword would not be the tool that would work against the shinigami but it would serve as a distraction if perceived as his main weapon. In any case he needed to move quickly as growth in all cases required a period of time.

"I appreciate what you have shown me thus far and I'm quite impressed. It would seem the only thing left to do is test that ability of yours."

Looking up the skies at least he knew he had one thing that could aid him. He allowed his sword to edge upwards demonstrating his intention to begin.

Kiisho laughed. A musical sound that seemed to drift silently throughout the area. Silent, but also intoxicating, as if it carried with it a small part of Kiisho himself.
"Test Ikazuchi?" He chuckled again, "My friend, you are brash indeed if you wish to test the volatility of the thunder. Since you are of squad eight, and are more than likely prone to studying everything you lay your eyes on, you of all people should know the futility of this." His laugh vanished, and he suddenly became very calm, eerily so. The air about him cooled, and even the wind seemed to die down. Calm amidst the chaos of the storm. "I ask you to please reconsider your request. Ikazuchi does not enjoy being tested, and will not be pleased. Should you continue with this endeavor of yours, I will not hold back simply because you have not achieved shikai. There is risk of death." His calmness remained, his eyes unwavering. "I have explained to you what my zanpakuto can do. Are you certain you wish to do this, Kinsetsu?"

(sorry doing my own little monologue wink )

Kinsetsu listened protraying a clarity that was only displayed when one was certain of the choice. He was also certain of the fact of his defeat but this was more than just winning and losing. It was for growth and understanding that only could come forth in the most precarious situation.

"You have it wrong my friend. This is not a choice in which I can decide. It has already been decided the moment you withdrew your shikai. Irrelevant of the risk or harm that may come forth from undertaking such a challenge it must continue. The presence of the opportunity to see growth and learning on shikai's spirits is here and I have no choice in the matter to decline. I hold dreams far greater concern than the concern over my being. To risk my life is irrelevant matter when it effects the eventual goal. You presented the situation that requires me to move forward and I will have to use it take it."

His mind completely devoid of emotion or thought the next set of words came out with grace.

"I may be shackled and chained
Up from the past rooted in pain
Part of the pack we mistreat and deprave
I hold the dream and the hope of the slave
see me soar

I'm a darkened ocean, chilled and wide,
Welling and swelling I bring in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of suffering and fear
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I will soar"

Despite the soaking wet cloths that now clung to his form he was warm. A warmth that did not come from the physical body but the clearest of thoughts void of insecurities.

((lol, no problem.))

Kiisho smiled softly at Kinsetsu's reply. It was as he thought, the boy was relentless. A small part of him felt for Kinsetsu, but another, larger part of him was revving up for the fight.
It had been some time since Kiisho had fought in the midst of a naturally occurring thunderstorm. He had forgotten the rush of power that it emitted. Now that he was satisfied as to Kinsetsu's resolution, he could begin.
Abruptly, the storm above him stopped, and he held out his right hand, pointing it at Kinsetsu with an almost apologetic smile.
"Sorry, Kinsetsu." He said, cocking his head lightly to the side, "But I'm afraid this will end before it begins.
His reiatsu skyrocketed, roaring into the sky like a pillar of ice-blue flame, and disintegrating the rocks and trees around his position. Lightning crackled about his form, and the reiatsu pillar vanished, leaving him standing in a small crater, with waves of energy pulsating across his skin. His hair floated eerily about his head, undoubtedly due to the mass amount of electricity around him. His gloves crackled with the most of the power, and glowed with the brightness of a miniature sun on each hand, the claws themselves barely visible in the chaos. His voice echoed across the battlefield, cutting through the silence with a single phrase.
"Specialized technique number six, Konran Shuyou."
To all outside of Kiisho's own view, it seemed as if he had exploded. A massive cloud of dust and debris rocketed out from his location, decimating what remained of the trees within twenty yards of Kiisho's location. As the dust settled, a very different Kiisho stood in a much larger crater.
His eyes glowed a viciously bright blue, as if they themselves were alive with electricity. His body was covered from head to toe in swirling energy, blue as the sky, and bright as the sun, crashing and crackling around him with the sound of ten-thousand stampeding horses. Barely visible, a small tornado swirled around his form, kicking up dust around his feet and pushing the rubble back even further. With even the smallest of movements, a loud crash, similar to thunder, could be heard.
"This is the result of my power, Kinsetsu." Kiisho said, his voice distant and nearly electronic with the massive amount of electrical interference. "I have absorbed the entirety of the lightning from the storm above us, and increased it with an infusion of my own reiatsu, enabling me to use this technique in flawless form. I am truly sorry, but this is where it ends. As I mentioned before, Ikazuchi does not enjoy being tested."
There was a sound akin to a bomb, and a flash of blinding light. Suddenly, Kiisho was within two feet of Kinsetsu, moving forward with more speed than it seemed possible for one without shunpo. His right hand burst forward, pulling all of the electricity from his technique into a single punch. A punch that released a forward rushing beam of pure energy fifty yards high, combined with a truly enormous sonic boom, cumulating in a rushing explosion of electricity, sound, and rubble, which rushed towards Kinsetsu with the speed of a thunderbolt.
As the attack settled, the sky above Kiisho, and around the are for three miles, cleared, dispelling the storm clouds and revealing a pure blue scene. All of the energy that had been spurring on the storm having been used.
It was still unclear as to what had happened to Kinsetsu, as the dust in front of Kiisho had yet to clear, but the once beautiful forest had been obliterated, leaving broken trunks and shattered branches, many of which had caught fire, scattered around a decimated landscape.

((My assumption based on ground reasoning with your posting is that with the obliterating effects of your attack it would take 5-10 seconds before visibility resumed. My guys movements will have occured within 5 seconds of the blast. This will be my one and only counter as I got what I needed from this experience to view a spirit with its shinigami in action. ))

With clear understanding of kinsetsu decision Kiisho was on the move. He moved quite fast for a shinigami pressumably not using shunpo but he had seen faster when he fought the hollow using sonido. He could not typically move fast as that movement but his reaction time far exceeded most due to his eyes which saw at the subatomic level. With this it allowed him to have the split second extra that had allowed him to make a name for himself as a great tactician. The approaching figure was concentration spirit particles of energy within the confines of his arm which seemed to suggest the eventual unleashing of an attack. Noting as previously stated that Kiisho's ability was founded on lighting it worked therefore on raw electrical power. Despite the manipulations he could do with electricity it was still governed by the natural laws.

Doing an action not typical of a shinigami he pierce his sword into the soil as the Kiisho's energy began to emerge from his outstretched arm. Blocking such a blast was quite impossible but the deadly energy from the blast could easily be diverted by the tool that was now planted in the ground. The sword would force an electrical current to go through it which would be the main concentration of the blast. He knew this was not the sole manner to escape and had already planned his next move as the force hit him.

As predicted the energy of deadly nature got directed towards his sword and grounded causing a rippling of static energy. The blast though contained more as he knew and despite its toned down contents still cause searing pain throughout the body as it began to burn. Despite this occurence in few milliseconds he knew he had enough of it. He voice the incantation Byakura Hado 4 but did so at the ground as he leapt. This was done for a couple of reasons. One in order to escape the blast parameters he needed the powerful incantation energy backlash to aid him as he jumped upwards to gain greater height and also as a lightning based kido it would be indistinguishable from what was launched at him. His voice which would also be unheard with the boom of the blast would allow him to escape the area without notice. The blast itself was already causing total loss of visibility.

As he projected upwards his clothes were now quite darkened by the searing they had incurred. He had clearly suffered first degree burn and still had somewhat of tingly feeling in his body due to the static electricity. In the air though as he cleared the blast he had a clear view of all around below. It was apparent Kiisho was still admiring his damage. He should have likely understood that not all was a foregone conclusion despite the presumed odds. As all the dust settled all that would remain would be his sword stuck into the ground. He likely had committed a sin leaving behind the tools of a shinigami but he was not your conventional shinigami. As he began to descend a few seconds later he prepared his offensive counter. ((This is about 3 seconds into the actual frame of action))

Hado 9 Geki The red arms extened outwards towards its opponent with great speed. He had put the majority of his reaitsu within this in order for the effects to hold his opponent. Kiisho had still not looked upwards and despite his voice clearly stating the incantation light always travelled faster than sound. By the time he heard the voice the blast would have already hit. He knew that lightning kido's would not harm him nor did he wish to do him harm he had gathered the information he need. It seemed though he would not be the only one learning something as he prepared a defense just in case.

(4-5 seconds total action time fitting with what I previously mentioned in paraphrases above)
PostPosted: Tue Dec 29, 2009 9:54 pm

Kiisho's eyes found Kinsetsu before his mouth even formed the words for his incantation. He was truly surprised that the boy had managed to survive his attack, as the blast was large enough to obliterate a small town. No matter, he had gravely misunderstood Ikazuchi's power, and would pay for it.
As the Kinsetsu released his kido, and sent the red light flying at Kiisho, Kiisho himself had already raised a single finger, and spoken three words.
"Hado number four, Byakurai."
A flash of blinding white lightning exploded from his hand, roaring outwards and piercing the center of Kinsetsu's spell, completely disrupting and destroying the kido.
"Kinsetsu!" He called out, holding his hands out wide. "I have no wish to kill you, but you are not nearly strong enough to face me. You wished a test, you have been given the results. But do not ever assume that you understand everything about how my zanpakuto works."
His hands clapped together, and the lightning from the previous attack appeared behind, above, and below Kinsetsu's position, made clear to Kiisho by the kinetic energy from his movement, and the reiatsu signature he was letting off.
"I could squash you like a bug, here and now." He said with a grim smile, holding out his hand as if to grasp Kinsetsu in his fist. "But that would not serve any purpose to the Gotei Thirteen." His lightning vanished, rapidly returning to his gauntlets. "What say we call this fight over and done?"

(all these events occur rior to my rankings as initial battle occured before I got a VC spot and even 5th seat)

He was not surprised the attack despite being well planned having been negated. The flash of the red light from the kido was quite visable from anyone's corner of the eye. Even as lightning began to surround him he was not worried as he could see within Kiisho's eyes he had no intent to continue. Lightly he dropped to the ground and proceeded to retrieve his sword.

"I'm glad we have come to that undestanding. If you noticed that incantantion had no ill intent but was merely to do what you yourself have done, end this sparring. I've witnessed all I've needed and I am grateful for the information you have provided me. It will allow me to better understand the relationship with my own spirit.

I do hope as well you learnt someting as well that their are no clearly decided situations. Although I was put in a situation that seemed impossible for one of my current status to escape I did. Not through my sheer power but through thoughtfulness. If this continued I'm certain you could easily destroy me but one can always surprise."

He grabbed his sword whichstill seemed to have a mild electrical current within as small sparks shot upwards into his arm. Ignoring the mild irritation he sheated his sword and walked towards Kiisho who had now returned to his natural state.

"I do though have much to learn myself. I may have tactical abilities and have a sense of how the spirit works together with the shinigami but their is a reason why mine is not present. I am certain you would have much else you could teach me on the matter without having to risk my life."

This last sentence was sent as an invitational proposition for Kiisho to become a mentor of sorts. He did not wish to directly ask as he still had pride but he had clearly need for a shinigami with clear understanding of their spirit in order to ascend to new ranks. The choice would be his if he understood the meaning by the indirect wording and he hoped he would accept.
