Ili'ella had curled herself up under a gangly looking tree, the heat of the day safely away from her thanks to the sparse leaves which clung to the branches above. She didn't mind the heat, but sometimes it tired her. Her colours loved the sun, as it made them sparkle and glow but it was easy to dehydrate when it was the middle of the day.
She stretched out, under the tree. The shade covered her stomach upwards, her back legs lying out in the sun to keep her at a pleasant warm. Yawning loudly, she knew she shouldn't sleep, not while she was alone. It was dangerous, especially during the day when the predators were out. Not that many would attack a lion on their own, but a pack wouldn't hesitate to try and take down a lone lioness and Ili'ella was not a strong fighter.
She could dance, sing and joke like the best, but she was no fighter. Forcing her eyes to stay open, she scanned the horizon in a lazy watchfulness. She was watching in front of her, but behind the tree the world continued on unnoticed.

It hadn't been too long since Teleza had first escaped his world of torture. He was a tad skiddish around females, still, because of how that lioness treated him. Sure, he could kill mercilessly when ordered to, but Teleza knew that that kind of behaviour was tearing him to pieces, and he had to run away from it. He was on his last leg when Ganon had discovered him, soaking wet with the look of a cornered rat. That was the day he promised himself that things would be different, and he'd see the world for the beautiful thing that it really could be.
Trotting along, Teleza's pure black and white sillhouette gently glided along through the grass. His large structure easily pushed aside the tall grass, and his massive paws crushed any twigs below. He didn't smile, but that was something he hadn't done since he was a small cub, still coddled by his mother. His inner emotions were mellow, though, and his prescence, while daunting, had a certain glow about it.
His eyes traced outlines of different figures along the horizon; there was a tree not too far ahead, and it seemed like a nice place to escape the sun. Half of his body could maintain its temperature perfectly, but the black half of him burned as the sun drew high in the sky.

Ili'ella was sure that the sun was getting brighter, even though the peak of the day was over by now surely. Staring up at the sky, though not directly into the sun. She had learnt her lesson as a cub. Staring at the sun burnt your eyes and made you see stars, despite it wasn't night time.
Huffing, the brightly coloured lioness laid her head on her paws, still partially curled up beneath the shade. She wasn't allowed to sleep, not while she was alone, so now she had to find something else to do to amuse herself while the sun was still out.
"Hello, am I the one you're looking for?" she sung softly to herself, rolling over unto her back. Her tail flopped out further into the sun. "I can see it in your eyes. I can see it in your smile. Hello~" Her eyes sparkled at the lyrics, staring up at the clouds which passed along the blue sky. "Hello~" She sighed, watching as the cloud formed something similar to a gazelle. "Hello~".
Before her eyes, the cloud gazelle split down the middle, morphing into some unknown figure. "Goodbye," she said quietly, faintly sad to see it go.

Teleza drew in a deep breath, making his way closer to the tree he had spotted. His ears flicked up as he heard the faint sounds of a voice, but he wasn't worried about it. There were few things on the savannah that could take the massive lion down, and his skills that he had picked up in his old pride had given him more than enough experience 'taking care' of threats. His long experience as a loner had also taught him that most other creatures actually didn't want to kill you.
The white and black lion neared the tree, now curious to see what what making such a soft and lovely tune. It reminded him of the little one he adored, such a soft voice. His black eyes moved to see a bright figure- the opposite of himself- lounging at the tree's base. As much as he wanted to say something, it was not in his nature to speak unless spoken to- and he didn't want to disturb the lioness if she didn't want to be disturbed. He moved in close, still standing, swaying his tail over the tops of the blades of grass far below him.

Ili'ella shifted in faint boredom. Clouds formed before her eyes, showing her different shapes and creatures in the sky but it wasn't enough to hold her attention for long. She was used to walking, and keeping walking, not just sitting around waiting for something to come to her. Still sprawled out on her back under the tree, she huffed and wriggled, until she was closer to the tree.
It was then that something caught her eye. It wasn't movement, or any sound he had made, it was the sudden awareness of being watched. She paused in her humming, which was some made up song while she waited for another interesting cloud to form. It was a male, she realised, rolling onto her stomach and pushing herself to her feet. He hadn't said anything, just watched her, which confused her momentarily.
"Hello," she greeted, eyeing his black and white coat with some sadness. What a poor male, not a speck of colour anywhere. Even his eyes were black. "I didn't see you there," she remarked, eyes sparkling warmly.

"Hello." He dipped his head briefly, a small smile popping up on his maw. "You really didn't notice me?" His tail wrapped around his hind leg, the soft fluff at the end sliding gently over his shorter fur. Teleza raised an eyebrow to the bright female; didn't see him? It really was a first for this behemoth of a lion. It made him laugh a little, for once feeling like a normal lion. "That's quite humorous, miss." His deep voice vibrated the small leaves dangling above, and he decided to sit down next to her.
"You have a very beautiful coat." He eyed the different colors; it was quite the opposite of his Kana, all gray and white. And certainly the exact opposite of himself. But he loved Kana's simple beauty, even if she wasn't as bright as this female. "I am Teleza." Her bright pelt made him feel more comfortable, like an automatic sign that she was friendly.

Ili'ella didn't know why the male seemed so surprised at that notion. She honestly hadn't, too caught up her own world to even realise there was anyone else around her, let alone standing quite close. "Why is that?" She asked, wondering why he found it funny. Flopping down onto her rump in a gracefully childish move, she wrapped her tail around her paws. The flash of blue on her tail always made her smile, because of it sudden colour.
"Thank you, Kind sir," she said brightly, voice almost as brightly as her coat as she smiled across at him. "Your coat...has very beautiful markings," she said, unable to compliment the colour.
"A pleasure, Kind Teleza," she responded. "My name is Ili'ella."

Ears perking up, Teleza still held a smile. "It's funny because no one's ever not seen me before." He held up a paw, partially to show her how large his paws were, for emphasis. He had always wondered why he was so large, probably a gene he couldn't remember from his forgotten parents. His eyes grew cold for a moment, looking back, but he flicked back up to the female quickly.
"You think so....?" It was another first for him. Growing up, the pride that took him in had rebuked him because of his pelt. He was happy to see that someone in the world liked it other than his little Kana. "Th-thank you. Illi'ella's a pretty name. I think it suits you well." His mind was growing calm and mellow again as he put the name to the face before him.

Peering at his large paws, she appeared surprised. Oh. She hadn't even noticed his size before! Ili'ella was in a world of her own most of the time, very rarely taking note of physical characteristics. Plus, she hadn't thought it strange. She was a slightly smaller lioness then normal, so everyone looked large to her. She lifted her own paw up next to his, peering down at them. "That's because you're soul is too beautiful to ignore," she remarked, while looking at their paws. In her mind, it couldn't be cause of his size that everyone noticed him. It had to be something inside him that made everyone looked his way. She smiled up at him with kind eyes.
"You're welcome," she responded, noticing the slight stutter. Had he never been complimented on it? A pity, truely. "Thank you!" She perked up abruptly, her earlier sadness over his reaction to her compliment disappear. "It means beautiful one, or something like that," she admitted with a laugh. "Father used to say my mother loved the name before she even had me."

"O-Oh." He didn't quite know how to react to her words. A beautiful soul? She truly didn't know him, but it was a nice gesture, at least. He eyed the immense difference in the sizes of their paws, her small, neon one nestled gently on his.
"Well, your mother must've known names well." He smiled, but it soon faded. Teleza didn't know why he was named the way he was; it seemed cute and fun at the time, but after he was taken, it became a mark on him, making him an outcast, along with his pelt. He wished that his parents weren't attacked, nor his pride, so they could've saved him; so they could've loved him like any cub deserves.
He would give Kana that love. That, he knew. But it got so difficult, since she was but a cub. He found it hard to restrain himself, but he knew he must, because she is so small. He didn't want to break her in his paws.

She looked at him, almost sadly at his stammering single word. She placed her paw over his, her small paw seeming dwarfed against his. "You don't believe me, do you?" She asked quietly. Why wouldn't he? She was telling the truth. It was a little shrouded and twisted, but it was beautiful. A little dull too, but that wasn't his fault.
She returned the smile. "Thank you, kind Teleza," she said, pleased with his round-about compliment. She watched as the smile faded, a little surprised to see it disappear so quickly. "You are sad, why?" She asked, with little to no tact. She wasn't good at being sneaky or polite. She said what she felt or what she say and in her mind, she saw the smile fading over and over again.
Had she done something wrong?

"If you knew, miss, if you knew." Teleza shook his head, his eyes sad as he remembered the horrible things he'd done. "But the past isn't important to me anymore. I'm only looking forward now." He didn't want to linger on the bloody past, just the endless possibilities that the future held.
"I'm afraid that I'm always sad now." Except when he was with Kana. Things tended to pop up in his head when he wasn't distracted by someone, especially Kana. She had a way of making him forget things that he wanted to forget. "Don't worry, you haven't done anything wrong." He smiled, looking back at him. "It was not your doing."

"Looking back makes moving forward difficult," she said, agreeing with him. She smiled at him, trying to make him return it. She hated seeing the dark eyes become even darker int heir sadness. "I don't know you, but your soul is bright, please believe me when I say it's beautiful." Beauty didn't mean innocent, or untainted, it just meant...beautiful.
She peered at him. "Not always, you're not," she said, sounding sure. "There must be something that makes you smile, or forget your sadness for a while, and I wish you all the best with finding and keeping that." She smiled. She was always smiling, so she was looking for the opposite, someone to make her to know the bad, so she appreciated the happiness more. She didn't believe him when he said she hadn't done anything. She had, she had brought up the conversation at least .

"Ah, well, thank you anyways." Teleza didn't want to totally say that she was wrong; she was just being nice, after all, and that really was what Teleza needed in life. A nice word from another.
"There is but one thing that makes me completely happy anymore." He thought back to his small cub Kana; her bright eyes told him everything with one look. "But I don't want to hurt her, and she is still so small. I get so frustrated sometimes." He closed his eyes, wanting to just sleep. "It really is tiring." He laughed, smiling over at her. "Your napping position looks nice. Mind if I join in?" He flopped to the side, exhausted just thinking about Kana. Once she's old enough.... He repeated the words over and over in his head, wanting to keep hope for their relationship in the future.

She smiled at him, but her eyes were sad, because she knew he didn't believe her. Perhaps a little, he wanted to, but he didn't, not really.
He watched her as he spoke about what made him happy, noticing how his eyes practically lit up when he spoke. She was glad. He had someone who made him happy, if only for a little while. Seeing his smile come back, she felt lighter then she had before. "Please, feel free to join me," she said, shifting carefully to allow him space. "If you're tired, you must rest." She tilted her head at him, settling down beside him as he prepared to sleep. She didn't feel overly tired, mind racing with her new friend's problems.
She would watch over him, she decided, and make sure he slept well. She would try her best to protect him, if only just for the little while they were together.
