It was getting to be a frequent habit of her's, spending long days at the mall. It wasn't really because Ebby didn't want to be home but more because she liked what was happening at the mall instead. There were decorations (which I almost typed as directions) to be put up, nice sales being had, and charities putting up ads and spaces for donations. And it was also the perfect place to get presents for the family.
As such, the teen was presently investigating the Build-A-Bear workshop, in search of something for her little siblings. Well, Sinny had previously been a big sibling but was still counted as little because she was older. And Shiraz, she'd always been small.

Ford didn't want to get a present for his father's girlfriend. If he had things his way, he would have bought something for Sam's wife before he got a thing for Suzanne, and he barely knew the ghost woman. But Sander had insisted he try to be nice. It was almost by mistake that he ambled into Build-A-Bear, peering into his wallet to count his money. He noticed the purple teenager several minutes later, one hand deep in the bin of disturbingly floppy plush monkey skins.

Ebony blinked, noticing the boy and waving some. "Hello there. Need a hand?" she inquired, indicating the slightly lost look about him. Her pink haired head cocked to the side as she inquired, her eyes eternally closed. That might have made it hard to tell if she was blinking, but one could see the twitching of her lashes and the movements around it. But her face was soft and friendly and she seemed to genuinely want to help.

Ford stood straight, eyebrows rising a bit as he was addressed. Or was he being addressed at all? He motioned toward himself, then looked over his shoulder only to be met with... the wall. Yeah, he supposed she was talking to him. Weird. Could she see him?
"Sure," he said. "I've got to get something for..." He hesitated. "My stepmom, I guess." Well, wasn't that what she was going to be someday? He sighed, then stood up straighter, his tail brushing the back of his leg. "A monkey might not be the nicest thing, now that I think about it." He chuckled briefly, his face settling into a friendlier expression.

The teen smiled and nodded. Obviously, he was a bit awkward with the whole gift getting and stepmom things. "Do you know anything she likes? Or do you just need to get something general?" she suggested, tone friendly and gentle. Ebby was used to the whole gift getting thing by now and given how the workers were busy, she could help this boy out.

He shrugged. "Not really. I don't know. She's got tons of these things," he said, motioning toward the stuffed animals, "but I'm not sure I should be getting her one." That seemed to be more his father's thing nowadays. "I can't think of anything else though."

Ebby laughed a little, "Well it's either this or jewelry and that's more of a parent thing to get." she teased, "Getting her a bear or something would probably be more acceptable than some things. Or you could get her sweets - does she like chocolates?"

Ford crossed his arm over his chest and scratched at the opposite shoulder, a bit defensively. Once he realized what he was doing, he forced his arms to his sides and stood up straighter. He nodded. "Yeah, chocolates. Gummi things, too. And sugary candy. Do they sell any of that here?"

The teen shook her head, "No, I don't think so. There's a store down the hall though that sells it. You could try there? Or get her a small bear and a bag of gummies and put them together in the package so she feels she got something super special."

He nodded. "Yeah, I guess. A bear and some gummi things, then." So it was back to choosing a bear. Ford's lips pursed as he reached into one of the bins and picked out something very furry and pink. It would have to do. "Thanks. For helping me."

"No problem?" she said with a smile, hoping that would be good enough. "Need help stuffing it?"

"Nah, I got it." He smiled at Ebby, still wondering how exactly she managed to see with her eyes closed, then got in the stuffing line behind a hunched elderly woman with a catload of cat hair on her sweater. Ford waved at the teenager as he was called forward to man the stuffing foot pedal a few minutes later, confident that his present would be well-received even if it wasn't gifted from his heart.

Ebby waved back and went about her shopping. That'd been an interesting slice of life, but she needed to get back to her business. That, and the catload of cat hair on that lady's sweater was starting to make her nose tickle.
