1. Why did you start the b u r n guild in the first place?
Honestly, because I had absolutely nothing better to do on Gaia, & absolutely nothing better to do in real life, either. That aside, what primarily motivated me to create Burn was because I'd just gotten so sick of being a crew member for other people's guilds. I kept finding myself in situations in which I was either a Vice Captain or a Moderator for a guild that I put more time & effort into than all the other crew members in the guild including its owner. It can get so frusterating being the person who basically keeps a guild running, but doesn't have the "authority" to make any of the really "important decisions" or get the "final say" on anything. Eventually I just decided to go ahead & make my own guild; even though I had absolutely no ideas on what the hell to DO with a guild of my own at the time; I figured that I'd rather put my time & effort into a mediocre guild that's mediocracy was my own damn fault than continue wasting time trying to make other people's mediocre guilds better.
2. What had you intended it to become?
I never really had any very clear intentions as to what I wanted Burn to become. I never really bothered to worry about the guild's future or anything; I just made it the only thing I could think of to make it -- a semi-strategical combination of a) my personal quirkiness & b) what I thought would interest, attract, & entertain people on Gaia. I gave the guild a name that would make sense to no one but me, posted a paradoxical tongue-in-cheek guild description that I thought would make sense to nobody but me [which is more or less the same exact description that's still on Burn's homepage], & took things from there.
3. Did what the b u r n guild exceed your expectations, or is it not there yet?
I don't think I ever really bothered to stop & think what I really expected Burn to become. One thing that's for certain, however, is that I sure as hell never ever would have thought it would have become anywhere NEAR as popular & active as it is. I remember being quite happy at Burn's success when the number of members in the guild reached the four-digit mark. Burn had exceeded my expectations when it was on the seventh or so page of the Guild Registry. So, yeah; Burn's been consistently exceeding my expectations for quite some time now.
4. How did you come up with the name b u r n ?
You know, I'm constantly shocked at how infrequently anybody ever bothers to ask me this question, especially since it's certainly not normal for Gaia Guilds to have names that don't directly reflect the nature of the guild's content. I basically named the guild "Burn" for me & me only, & the only significance the name carries is personal. For anybody who cares to know the origin of the word "burn"'s personal meaning to me, I'll do my best to explain: Six or so months before I created Burn, I was in a really awful "car accident" that I technically should be brain dead or just simply dead from. The fact that I somehow managed to get out of that crash in near-perfect health made me both a "local celebrity" & "medical mystery". Due to the nature of the crash, I had tons of detectives & police officers bugging me for weeks & weeks about all the details of the crash, & the only thing I could remember was hearing "burn, burn, burn" from the stereo. My boyfriend at the time bought me a sterling silver necklace that simply said "Burn"; when I asked him what the hell he meant by that, he declared that it was his way of representing in four letters the fact that I had survived that whole ordeal with no lasting damage, & a commemeration of, in short, the fact that I wasn't dead. The word just took on lots of personal significance from there.
5. Who is/are one of the most helpful and important members of the b u r n guild?
Without a doubt, Burn's two Vice Captains -- oxylysia x & Inylysia x, AKA, Oxy & Candice. They're two of the loveliest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, & Burn simply would not be the guild it is today at all without either of them.
6. What do you look for in someone who wants to be a crew member? A Vice Captine?
Basically what I look for in every crew application people send me is: a) whether I like their personality -- to the extent that I can gauge someone's personality based off their answers to 10 questions -- & whether or not their personality "fits" with Burn & Burn's crew, b)how dedicated I feel they'll be towards the guild, & c) what unique skills & new ideas they could bring to Burn. It's also really important to me that they display some intelligence & don't type like a five year old, just because the level of illiteracy most people convey over the internet is a personal pet peeve of mine. Ultimately, though, I go on my instinct & intuition more than anything else. I'm a very good judge of character & can "read" people pretty well, pretty fast. If there's one thing I've proven good at, it's choosing my crew members. I've developed so much more meaningful & personal friendships with many of my crew members than I ever would have thought possible.
7. How could someone attain either of those statuses?
I don't think I'll ever make anybody else a Vice Captain of Burn; I'm always promoting new crew members, however. Anybody who wants to be a Moderator for Burn can just fill out the crew application & PM it to me smile
8. Do you have any special ways of telling if someone is crew/VC material?
Most of the time the only way for me to know for sure how someone will do as a crew member is to promote them & see how they do. Tons of people will seem like perfect candidates in their crew application, but upon being promoted quickly demonstrate that they're more or less useless. It's shocking just how many people bother filling out crew applications only to become MIA from Burn [& often from Gaia altogether as well] after only being active for a week or two around the guild. So even though I do have certain things I look for in someone before promoting them, ultimately it comes down to trial & error.
9. How often do you check in on b u r n ?
Generally every other day.
10. How often do you update b u r n ?
It really depends on what exactly you mean by "update". Nearly every day that I sign onto Gaia for more than 2 seconds, I end up doing something or another to further improve the guild on the whole, even if it's just looking over a crew application or something.
11. What do you wish was different about b u r n , but keep for the members?
There's really not much at all I keep around in Burn solely for the members sake. I do pay lots of attention to what the members want when deciding what contests Burn should "officially host", for example, but at the end of the day, if me & my Vice Captains think a change should be made, then the change will be made.
12. What do you wish was different about b u r n , but keep because of Gaia TOS's?
Ohhh, Burn would definitely be very, very different if it weren't for Gaia's TOS. I'm a huge advocate of free speech & am incredibly anti-censorship, & am therefore constantly annoyed by the fact that I have to keep everything at a "PG-13" level. If it was up to me, there'd be no rules banning any form of "explicit content", & the guild would have a more "mature" feel overall with focuses on various forms of content that Gaia considers "too mature
13. What are some of your plans for b u r n in the future?
I don't really plan out much about Burn's future; I mostly just let the guild grow & evolve on its own & take everything on a really "day by day" basis.
14. What are some of your hopes for b u r n in the fututre?
Naturally, I hope it continues to grow even larger, & keep becoming increasingly popular. I'd love for Burn to be one of like the top three guilds on Gaia; I don't see that ever happening, but then again, I never ever would have thought Burn would make it to the first page of the guild registry, so who knows.
15. What other guilds do you own, if any?
Burn's the only guild I've ever owned, & the only guild I ever plan on owning.
16. What other guilds are you a member of?
Um, let's see, *checks*... The Newbie Supporting & Training Guild, T3h Vending Guild, The Millionaires Guild, The TekTek Society, MP Center, Gaia Job Center, Teh Hoarding Guild, & The Gaian Item Library. Truth be told, however, the only one of those guilds that I visit on any sort of regular basis is NSTG [The Newbie Supporting & Training Guild], & largely just 'cause I'm a Mod there.
17. Have you ever had to end a thread because of a fight or because it was agaisnt the Gaia TOS's?
Many threads have had to be locked &/or deleted throughout Burn's history due to members starting petty drama. Burn actually had to close down a whole subforum due to Gaia's TOS once. Somehow or another all the crew members of Burn had a temporary lapse of sanity at the same time or something & we thought it would be just a great idea to create an Adult Discussion thread, & then barely even monitor its content. Like 2 months after the subforum was up the guild was reported & I was sent an official warning by a Gaia Moderator that if I didn't get rid of that subforum they'd ban the guild.
So, in short, yes.
18. What would you do if something ever happened to b u r n ?
I'd be kind of pissed off. Then I'd create Burn V.2.0 blaugh
19. Have you ever been confronted personally by a member of b u r n because of something on the Guild?
Oh, definitely. This website, as well as the entire ******** internet, is full of people flaming eachother left & right for everything, & being the Captain of a guild with 22,000 people just paints a huge target on my back. I've been confronted personally by members in like every way possible, plus have been personally attacked many times over. Not that it really matters to me.
20. How many members of b u r n are you firends with personaly?
Well, Burn's Vice Captain Oxy [oxylysia x] is actually my boyfriend in real life. I'd also definitely say I'm friends with Killinger [killysia x] & Candice [Inylysia x]... & LadyKay, Vashy, pretty much most of Burn's crew. Crew aside, I'd say I'm on "friendly terms"/"acquantences" with a good handful of Burn's members. Truth is, I don't know the majority of Burn's members one bit, though. I mean, that's 22,000 people.
