The weather, as always here in D'ob, was beautiful. The sun was shining, the grass was lush and green and there was not a rain cloud in sight. Everywhere Dimitri looked, there was an animal frolicking in the green blades, whether it was a cute little bunny or a young filly or colt chasing each other's tails, there was a lot of motion in this valley of life.
At this time of day, when the sun was at it's highest, Dimitri tried to stick to the outskirts of the fields, but today he had lost track of where he was, so intent he was on nibbling at the delicious grass, that before he knew it, he was standing in front of a pond, in the middle of a field that was definitely not deserted.

A delighted giggle erupted from a nearby filly as she pranced in place, waiting merely an instant for her dam to pull the oversized pelt off her daughter before the filly was off. She galloped towards the edge of the pond, a broad grin on her face as she raced as fast as she could towards her destination with one simple goal in mind: To splash as much as she possibly could. It didn't matter who she splashed, or how wet she got, or how cold the water was - she wanted to splash and that's what she was going to do!
And by the gods, was it cold! She raced in up to her hocks before coming to a screeching halt with a high-pitched squeal of surprise and delight. She gave herself a thorough shake before she continued onward, jumping and splashing and stomping as much as she could, spraying droplets everywhere.
"Don't stay in there too long, mimila," the violet-eyed mare called after placing the white pelt in a semi-neat heap on the ground. Even though D'ob was more temperate than the other areas in Urin, it was still fairly chilly and the water was still cold, and she didn't want her daughter to fall ill. Daughter.
Jocasta gave herself a thorough shake as well. She still wasn't used to the thought of having children, especially with someone she didn't love. Someone who had left fairly soon after the trees sprouted and hardly ever came back afterwards. She pushed the thought aside with a small sigh and watched the giggling filly prance about in the water; she'd let her have her fun splashing about for now, but she wouldn't be able to stay in there too much longer. At least she'd have something to keep her warm once she got out. Intelligent purple eyes flitted to the skin on the ground, then to study the creature who usually wore it. It was much too big for her now, of course, but she'd grow into it and appreciate it like Jocasta appreciated hers. She hoped Ismene's sister would, too.
"I know ute!" The pink-eyed filly called to her dam, but paid her no more heed than that. Sure it was cold, but why couldn't she stay in longer? It was so much fun, especially when she could splash others! Especially foals! But they didn't usually want to play with her too often, at least the ones that didn't belong to the Hellenes. They often said mean things to her, but she didn't mind, they didn't matter anyway.
With a grin, she shut her eyes and spun around in circles as fast as she could. She wasn't sure why, but it seemed like it would be fun! That thought soon changed as she stumbled sideways and landed with a squeak on the grass, her hooves landing with a slight splash at the water's edge. She opened her eyes and peered upwards, and found that she'd landed almost directly next to a giant Aeri. And not just any Aeri, either - he had things on him. Weird, creepy looking things. With a gasp, she jumped onto all fours, ears perked forwards and tails wriggling excitedly. "Wow!" Was all she could think to say, as she studied the bones on the Aeri's back. Normally, she'd have more manners than this, but it wasn't every day you saw a Nequus with bones on their back!

Staring down at the water's edge, Dimitri was thinking. He was thinking about what he was going to do now that he was out on his own. Well, not only on his own, but also without anyone following him about anywhere he went. He was well and truly on his own now, and he had no idea where life was taking him. He was lost. He had no goal in mind now that he had finally come to terms with what had happened. The last two years had gone by in a drowsy haze, and he wasn't quite sure if he even wanted to remember the details.
But here he was now, staring at the water and he realized that it no longer stood still. It had ripple after ripple running through it and before he could look up to see why a splash of water hit his hooves and part of his feathering, followed quickly by a small thing falling into the grass next to him. This... thing... was really a foal, a dark brown foal with curiously pink eyes and it looked up at him for a few moments before bounding up, exclaiming and turning all of her attention to him. Now what was he going to do?!
Dimitri awkwardly watched the foal react to him, not really knowing what he was supposed to do in return. She had all of her attention trained on him, well, up to him, really. So he figured he could at least return the same to her. Without moving his stance, Dimitri turned his head to the side to take a better look at the little filly as she obviously studied the bones along his back. Deciding that looks was not quite enough for him to get used to her, he stretched his neck further forwards and sniffed at her, in, and then a soft wash of air out, and once more, before his big lips made their way softly across the filly's forelock, in a friendly, if not awkward greeting. He pulled back, having memorised her scent, and looked at her again. "Uhhmmm..." he looked up and saw from across the pond what had to be the filly's dam, they had the same look on their face. At least... Dimitri thought they did... though mom's expression could have been anger.... just in case, he switched back to looking at the filly and finished with, "... Hello?"

Instantly Jocasta tensed up, ears perked as she watched the strange Aeri interact with her daughter, ready to jump in at any moment if something should go wrong. No sudden movements though, and then a greeting, if an awkward one. Well, he didn't seem like a major threat right now, and Ismene did need to meet people on her own, without her dam towering over her every minute. Her parents had done that, and she remembered how annoying it had been, although she sort of missed it now that her dam was gone and her sire was so ill. She'd have to go visit him again soon..
The filly ducked a bit as his large muzzle leaned down to sniff her, and she shut her eyes and giggled as the warm rush of air blew over her face. Shaking her head after the awkward nonverbal greeting, she peered up at him again with curious magenta eyes. "Hi! Why d'you have bones on your back? Oh!" The foal blinked, offering him a sheepish grin. "I'm sorry, I should've said my name first, before asking you stuff. My name's Ismene, what's yours?" There! She didn't want to seem rude to this newcomer, her ute had taught her better than that. Thinking of which, she turned to offer her dam a broad grin before turning her attention back to the boned Aeri, waiting expectantly.

Dimitri had spoken to the little one, but he kept one ear tilted towards the dam, in case he had to take some sort of action, but throughout his awkward greeting there was no attack or sudden rush-in, so he assumed that all was well. He didn't know if foals this size & age had independence yet... He did, when he was this foal's size, but his life had been much different than this little one's. For one, he had not been raised in the lush ever-green valley...
Questions already! Dimitri focused on the foal before him and thought for a moment before answering her questions. How was he supposed to tell her nicely? For, he should tell her nicely, shouldn't he? Start with the basics, and work from there, he told himself, and so took a deep breath and then started calmly in his big low voice.
"My name is Dimitri. And the bones... well... they're another Aeri's. He died. And because of the way he died, I chose to take his bones, clean them, and wear them on my back to remind me of that time of my life." There! He had explained it. Nicely... or at least without the depressing and gruesome details of how it had come to be. That was good enough right? He had answered all of her questions, right?
