For all of those out there who have been raped, do you suffer from flashbacks?
I was raped when I was 6 years old by my friend's drunken older brother. There are times when I barely remember anything that happened. There are also times when walking down the street will induce full-fledged flashbacks, with all the sensory details in place.
Funny thing is, most of these flashbacks are randomly triggered. I've tried connecting the trigger with the events in the flashback, but nothing fits.
I'm confused as to why this is. >.<

I do too. Piano's, piano music, and classical music, Kelly clarkson music, or Pirates of the carribean bring back memories and cause flashbacks. Thy cause me to go into severe panic attacks that usually end. In me fainting Also my own room triggers flashbacks.

For me it's weird because for the most part I'm ok. I'm part of a Sexual Assault Hotline and talk to girls about their own experiences all the time and I'm fine with that because I'm able to stay emotionally de-tached. Yet whenever I see a rape scene in a movie, it's literally like I'm re-living the experience....

It may be a good idea to see a therapist, if you aren't already. If you can't connect the event triggers by yourself, you may need an outside help to connect it so that you can try to avoid the triggers or at least somehow control it and work on over-coming it.

I've actually recently gotten myself to therapy. smile It hasn't done a whole lot quite yet, but I'm sure it will start helping once we get deep enough. smile

Indeed therapy is good. I never had a issue with therapist. Though sometimes they can be TOO professional and it makes me uncomfortable.
But, yeah don't give up and hope you find a good one. That will help you deal with what needs to be dealt with. Good luck.
