This will be the thread where we can talk about all Sondheim, 24/7. Whether it be plays, music, or movies. Ready, set, go.
Maybe we can all start off with what our favorite show composed by Sondheim is.

I like the idea, but I suddenly can't think of what to say, other than I'm really into Follies right now.

PensivePine I like the idea, but I suddenly can't think of what to say, other than I'm really into Follies right now. Ooh, I love the song Buddy's Blues. You ever see the show Putting it Together? They have it on DVD now if you haven't seen it.

I haven't seen it, but I heard the soundtrack, Julie Andrews version. I think the DVD is the Carol Burnett version, but you have it, so you'd know better than I do. I love Buddy's Blues! If I could think of a good way to change the verse parts around, I'd use it as an audition piece ^_^ I also love The Right Girl, it's so beautiful, yet so sad at the same time. And I can't forget The Story of Lucy and Jessie, another favorite. I like Ben's folly, too (although I can't remember the title....) mainly for the chorus members ("When the storms are blowing..." "Yes?" etc.). Although you can keep Losing My Mind. I've heard it too much to really care about it any more.

I like Stephen Sondheim a lot. I've seen the revival of Sweeney Todd -- it's my favorite show of his, Assassins, Sunday in the Park With George, and Into the woods. I must admit I didnt' like Into the Woods when I originally saw it, but I learned to like it when I taped it off of TV and it later came out on DVD.

I was like that With Sunday in the Park with George. I kind of still don't like that second act.

I think one of my favorite things about Sondheim is that he's so creative. You know, Broadway is a lot of revials or adaptations of previous works and a lot of Sondheim's stories are really unique. (Assassins, Sunday in the Park, ect) I respect that a lot. 3nodding

Unfortunately, he's so creative, we'll never see a film version of Sunday in the Park With George. Possibly never of Assassins. And remember, he writes the songs, there are other people who write the book. Who's idea is it of the plays? Sondheim or the other guys?

Him and other writers come up with the concept but he does not write the story. Hey, Sweeney Todd the musical movie is coming out next year in theatres!!! whee

Sweeney Todd is my favorite Sondheim musical. I'm actually in a production of it right now... at a high school! I know it's insane, but we're pulling it off and doing it really well. xp It's his most complicated show, though. I love it to death... haha. I didn't know about the movie until now! Thanks for the heads up!

Sweeney Todd is my favorite too. I like the murder. Which is why I liked Assassins too. Can't wait for the movie.
