Lanzo was silent as he stood amongst the empty plains. Just in front of him the sun was beginning to set and the sky was rearranging itself into all sorts of colors. It wouldn't be too long until the nighttime would take it's rightful place. Lanzo supposed yet another day had gone by and not a single thing was accomplished by him. Was this how it would always be? Constant wandering and walking with no kind of achievement? He really didn't know anymore, or care for that matter. He would just keep doing what he was doing because it worked. This was what being alive was- a struggle to keep oneself sane, or something.
Air was beginning to show in front of his nostrils and the detail was a good sign that winter was fast approaching. Soon everything would frost over and many animals would hibernate and hide from the wintertime. He actually preferred the cold weather compared to summer's heat. He loved the natural silence that snow brought and also enjoyed how clean everything looked amongst the white mass. Hopefully his mood would lighten up once the first snow arrived. It gave him something to look forward to. Until then he'd have to keep himself stable enough to make it until then.
He decided he was comfortable amongst his current hill top and that the sky was putting on a good show for him. He had no other destination in mind so he allowed his mind to relax a bit and finally not think of anyone or anything. He needed a serene moment every once in awhile to get himself stable and to reassure himself that everything was truly ok. He was alive, his family was well, and life was beautiful. The sky was a good indicator of that beauty so he decided to enjoy nature's artwork for as long as it would last...

The mare was accustomed to solitude. It was not for lack of friends or family that she was typically alone. She felt distant now, lost to the world that was changing around her. She felt confused and unsure of herself and what her place was to be in the larger scheme of things. A few of her foalhood friends had helped to usher in this displacement as her budding adulthood took hold. Now she wanted nothing more than to be away from those familiar faces and places that she once frequented.
She'd set out on something of a soul-seeking journey after speaking with her father. It was his recommendation that she try to find herself and her place, but how exactly she was to go about that, she wasn't sure. She'd left over a week ago and was now entering unfamiliar lands. She was both thrilled at the new sights and sounds and terrified that she might have made a mistake. Still, she pushed forward, heading for the sunset.
The mare rarely flew, and so it was on foot that she crested the hill to find the spot already occupied. She was surprised by the stallion's presence, and it took her a moment to speak. She wasn't expecting to run into another soquili so soon and hadn't quite worked out how she had meant to carry herself. There was no time for planning now, and she managed a tentative "Hello..." followed by "Pardon my intrusion. I hadn't realized there was someone here."

He hadn't realized she was there either. Apparently his mind was lost inside some other space, completely safe from the real world for a few minutes. The mare seemed to bring Lanzo back into his current moment, and he sighed when he finally looked at her. Was this another mare that was going to try and 'change' him? Why were creatures always trying to do that to him? Why the hell should he change anyways? This was how he lived his life and he never complained or concerned others about it. There were those that were optimistic and those that swayed oppositely for their own accord. Lanzo just did things his own way.
But, before he could dwell on accusations for this poor mare, he supposed he should give her a try first. "It's really alright." he finally answered, while realizing the mare was awfully quiet in actuality. She hadn't jumped up to him or asked him to do anything loud or obnoxious. She was just standing there as silently as he was, maybe lost in the sunset as well? He had never seen a mare so quiet. This would really be a first for him in so many ways.
His eyes then glided towards her wings and he couldn't help but stare at them for a long time. They looked like the sunset, such a lovely and calm shade of color. Nothing too bright or obnoxious for his eyes to stare at. He then reverted to her light eyes and noticed they were hidden by bangs, just as his were. "Do you like sunsets?" He was surprised to be asking such a personal question to a stranger, but he supposed standing and staring at her was probably worse. "I like to watch them from time to time."

He seemed so... what was the word? Forlorn perhaps, as he sighed and turned her way. The mare wondered if something about her sudden intrusion into his solitude had broken him from a happier place. She hadn't meant to butt in on another's private thoughts, and was prepared to be on her way. He spoke then, assuring her that she hadn't done anything too untoward.
She said nothing in return, simply waited patiently as he examined her. She was well aware that her wings were rather unique and they enticed many to stare. She didn't find it rude or uncomfortable, simply an act of curiosity towards her. She fluttered her smokey and ever-shifting wings softly without thinking. She couldn't help examining him as well. He was already not at all what she would expect in a stranger and exhumed an aura of mystery and depth.
As his eyes met hers she found it hard to look away. He, too, seemed guarded, his eyes veiled and hidden. His voice broke her from her thoughts. "I do," she answered simply. "Twilight is my favorite time of day," she added softly, shifting her gaze to the drooping sun. "It is in the brief flashes between light and dark that the most beauty is found." Her voice was faraway as she gazed at the myriad colors that had burst across the sky. A few early stars had begun to peek out along the bits of sky that had already darkened.

Lanzo was quiet as the mare spoke about the sky. She seemed to have a good grasp on the sun-setting as well, indicating that she had watched it before as a past time. Lanzo always felt like he was the only one noticing such silent wonders in the world, but apparently not. He supposed he wasn't as alone as he felt most of the time."Well I am glad you appreciate it as well." he finally added, while nodding at her appropriately. It was always nice to find something in common with someone else.
He supposed it was strange of him to not ask for her name. Wasn't that what normal Soquili did when they were meeting somebody new? His siblings would have scolded him once again for being so anti-social. He supposed he could give it a try. What was the worst that could happen? The mare could have refused to give her name or something. "Well I'm Lanzo." he finally said, while flicking his ears towards the light breeze. "What happens to be your name?" Well there, that was a start. He was attempting socialization for the first time in his life. He'd be a jerk to be rude to this mare especially since she was much different then the ones he had met before.
He brought his eyes back to the horizon and also noticed the light colors of the sky vanishing inch by inch. If anything it looked as though the mare matched the sky, with little stars on her legs as well. "I'll admit, I am surprised you aren't afraid of me." Had she been around other Kalonas before? Was his demeanor so pathetic that she could tell he meant no harm? Maybe he came off as too lazy most of the time. He would be a liar if he said that wasn't true.

She nodded in acknowledgment to his comment, content that the two had found common ground, ironically enough, in the sky. She allowed the moments to pass in silence as he seemed to struggle with his own thoughts. She kept her gaze to the sky until his name caused her to turn. "I am Nita. Pleased to meet you," she added as an afterthought. Apparently it was time to go through the motions of meeting someone for the first time. Next he'll ask where she's from, what she likes doing, etc etc. He turned from her and she supposed this was a different sort of encounter. A smile tugged at her lips until his next statement gave her pause.
Afraid of him? Why in the world would she be afraid of him? It must be the wings, she reasoned. What had Nocturne called them? Kalona wings? Apparently kalona were things to fear. She noted that mentally. "There are few things I fear," she began slowly, searching for the proper words to spare his ego. Clearly he was part of a race that was supposed to inspire fear in others. She certainly couldn't compare him to her foalhood friend Nocturne, who also had such wings, and also many spikes along his body. She was used to frightening appearances, and so never gave them much thought. "I pride myself on two things," she said finally, firmly. "The first is that I'm a pretty good judge of character. The second is that I can fly pretty fast if I'm wrong." She smiled at him softly.

He was surprised. As quiet as the mare was she seemed to have some confidence. The only reason he could relate to such was because his siblings had tons of confidence and never worried about a thing. But he was quite different. He could only nod at her second statements and could hardly argue with her. Maybe she was forgetting that he too had wings, and so did other scarier creatures. But no matter. It was a witty comment so there was no reason to take it away from Nita. If he corrected her that would make him even stiffer then he already was. He was trying to learn how to communicate correctly and better. At least he had caught himself this time.
"So what brings you to this spot? You live around here or something?" It was probably a silly question to ask but he never truly knew where other Soquili lived and flourished. "Or do you happen to be traveling and stumbled on this particular spot?" Was that his own excuse? Sure he was traveling in essence but definitely not going anywhere or looking for anything. Just sort of wandering around until interesting places came up. Many would be jealous that he lived such a simple and carefree life. He couldn't tell if it made him lucky or incredibly lonely. He preferred it all this way, at least.
He shifted his positioning and glanced upward in a bit of surprise. "Oh, there goes the sun..." Alas, it was finally setting, and things were getting dark. Not that it bothered him or anything.

She knew what he was thinking about her comments. She was well aware how fragile she was. She had a few tricks, of course, that aided in the truth of her statement, but she knew that she was no match for most creatures in the world. It made little difference to her. Especially now...
She was shaken from her thoughts as he asked about her home. She looked back the way she had come for a moment, but wasn't sure what she felt as she tried to find something familiar. "I lived a ways away from here," she finally said, looking back at Lanzo. "Perhaps some day I shall return. And you? Is this a regular spot for you to watch the sunset?"
As she spoke he noted that the sun had sunk below the horizon. She turned and looked at the glowing sky where the sun had been. It darkened further, but the moon was bright and had begun its arc across the sky. "I prefer the moon."

How far away was his old home? It sometimes felt too far and almost unreachable. "No, I don't live here. I suppose that was a silly question." His attempts at socializing were pathetic, as expected. But he was putting in an effort at least. "The den I grew up in was way north and near the mountains. Nowadays I don't call anything or any place my home." And he preferred to keep it that way.
Sometimes it felt like no other place could replace his old home. It was probably one of the reasons he was always traveling. He didn't want to replace what he once had. He wanted to cherish where his parents had raised him and always consider that area of land the most important spot in the world. He would have done anything to have his childhood back. It was so blissful and easy.
He could only grin at her moon comment, knowing all too well what she meant. "It is always a pleasure to fly around at night. Sometimes it feels like the moon is so close you could touch it." He used to think that was possible as a child. It was a silly game he would play now and then. He was glad to have grown out of such habits and tendencies. "I get the feeling that you are a night-dweller rather then in the daytime?"
