Ah, yet another flight class. These classes seemed to go well and Peri was happy about that. The children were so eager to fly with their dragons and there was no chance of either getting hurt... too much. As of yet, no one had fallen.
The dragon instructor was waiting at the elevators to head down to the canyon floor. A note had been sent to the student, instructing her and her dragon to meet Peri there.

Zyanya sauntered towards the rather large D-corp building her hair in two high pigtails as she snapped bubble gum a bit cliche like in her mouth. She looked...up to Hinder who walked beside her a part of her proud of the fact that when they recently compared sizes Hinder was larger than Keir. The black wasn't too impressed but Zyan was proud. Hinder too.
She patted her green dragons flank or rather smacked him hard giving a chuckle as they entered the building. "Get to finally use those wings of yours Hind." She commented as she looked up to him slyly. The green only nodded his head eager to learn so he could show off to Baroness.
Zyan snapped her wings together her side legs clicking as she setteled into her walk, her boots clomped as she stepped into the building she spotted Peri but ...she was pretty sure Peri was a guy...not a girl. "Who are you?" She asked rather bluntly eyeing the woman as one may....not likeing she had a smaller chest than her...actually the fact her chest size had hardly grown in the last couple of months greatly annoyed her.

Every time one of the kids asked her that just made Peri want to kill Raven even more. She sighed. "I'm Ms. Coleman." She gestured to the elevator. "Down we go. The air currents in the canyon are much easier for a beginner flight class." She glanced to the green dragon, who would finally get to participate in a class. "Has your dragon tried flying any?" She asked Zyanya, as she pressed the button for the canyon floor.

Zyanya looked the woman over before shrugging her shoudlers. Whatever maybe she had been confused...the last time she had seen Peri she had been pretty young.
"If you can call it attempts..sure." She chorteled her dragon only huffing at her for being made fun of.
"What? Not like you didn't try and failed miserably at it.." She stated glaring at him.
You don't need to announce my failure of flying to everyone... He groweled back though he turned his gaze to the woman before them before they both followed her to the canyon.
"Canyon? Jeeze this place must have oodles of cash to build a canyon indoors." The mantis drawled as they walked.

Peri chuckled as the girl and dragon bickered a bit. So the green had not been overly successful at flight yet. Sounded like her son's green. Kalseru had tried flying a couple of times, but had fallen flat on her green nose. Of course, this had ticked the green off and she'd sulked for a while.
"Hmm? Oh, no. The canyon is located behind the building." Though, Peri wouldn't put it past them to have built one inside if they'd had to. She led them out into the canyon, walking for a short distance to a fairly flat area she used for this class. "Since he's not truly flown before, I'd like your dragon to fly alone first. He should get the hang of flying solo before adding more weight to him."
She gestured to the flat area and smiled at Hinder, basically saying 'Have at it'.

Zyan nodded her head, though she wanted to try this flying thing with her dragon she was in no hurry to get herself busted up she followed Peri down to where this 'canyon' was suppose to be.
"Yeah yeah sure..." She said with a idle wave of her hand. Her green following behind in a slower pace as it took in their surrondings. He was for one glad that he got to fly solo for the first couple of times. he didn't need a back seat flyer...

Peri stood back, motioning for the green to go on and try. She would watch and see. Depending on how well the green handled himself, Peri would either have him try a bit longer before breaking or go ahead and let the girl get on and let the pair try flying together. But the green had to be comfortable with flight first.

The green moved ahead leaving the mantis and the he/she behind. He found it interesting that the man was now a women but he didn't really care at all. His head held high he opened his wings in a dramatic fashion.
"Show off.."
Hinder looked to Zyanya at the words giving a snort like how would you know, before he went to take a running leap. His wings beating frantically in the air before he was held aloft for a few seconds and then collasped in a heap on the ground. Apparantly he hadn't expected his wings to just give out on him. Getting up off the ground he shook his head shot a glare at his girl who was sniggering in the back ground.
He then approached his original spot and tried again, with each attempt he seemed to be getting better....but it was smidges of progress. Finally tired of the bruises he was recieving he approached the human teacher.
What am I doing wrong? He inquired politely as possible.

Peri watched the dragon's attempts silently, looking for ways to improve. "Good start," she commented when the green came to her for advice. "On the downstroke, angle your wings downward, bringing them forward as you stroke. Then, for the upstroke, slightly fold your wings as you tilt the leading edge upwards." She hadn't read all those books on bird flight for nothing! It wasn't just simple flapping up and down, birds twisted their wings during the process to keep them up.
Hopefully her explanation would help... really, she had debated recruiting one of the older dragons for this class... until they'd all left. Now she was stuck trying to teach something she'd only read about and would never be able to do.

The green dragon looked thoughtful at Peri's advice he spread out his wings on the spot and then tried a slow motion wing stroke his eyes gazing at them to see if they were doing what Peri had said.
"Like this?" He inquired as he tried to angle them as she had described. He thought it looked right...it felt better that was for sure, if awkward. He gave a few more strokes before he moved off to stand where he had been launching himself before.
Zyanya looked over to the instructor a smile of mild amusement on her face. This would be the first time she had watched her dragon actually work for something before.

She watched, then nodded as the dragon questioned her. Now to see if it worked when put to the test. Peri found herself wishing that this green had gone to Nibal instead of the one he'd gotten. This one seemed to be much better behaved...

Zyanya shifted on the spot watching as her dragon practiced the wing strokes.
"Best leap forward GreenHide." She stated with a gesture of him to get going she had to stifle a yawn as funny as it was watching her dragon learn to fly she was finding herself rapidly growing bored.
Hinder mostly rolled his eyes giving a snort, more than use to Zyan's more blunt behavoir. Turning he moved back to where he had been standing before and then tried again. His wings spread out and he gave them a few practice flaps before he took a leap. He actually managed to succed this time. Perhaps not far off the ground but he glided down the hill. He then gaev a few experimental flaps finding he had to pump them harder than he thought originally and then found himself gaining altitude.
A roar of success as he found himself rising and not smashing into the ground. Course it was tiring work. He managed to circle back finding that coming back up the hill was nearly exhausting. He landed in a near heap almost crashing into Zyan and the instructor.
He got back up shaking his head and then looking very proud.

Peri scooted back as the green came in for a rather rough landing. She chuckled a bit. "Landing is the hard part." A glance towards Zyanya and she added, "You'll want to hold on tight during that part."
"Very good," Peri addressed Hinder. "While you take a bit of a break, we'll go over some information you might find handy."
"Here in the canyon makes a good place for beginners, as the air can only flow one way: along the canyon. Once you get up into open air, though, there are many different air currents. Sometimes, going up or down just a short distance will get you on a current flowing almost in the opposite direction of the one you were just on. Some say that dragons can sense these air currents and find the one flowing in the direction, or closest to it, that they want to go."
"There are also thermals, spiraling columns of warm rising air that dragons can catch to gain height without putting forth a lot of effort. Updrafts are very similar, being a pocket of warm air while downdrafts are pockets of cool air."
Peri paused and looked at her students. "Watch a bird in flight sometime. Birds are rather lazy fliers, especially larger birds, and will glide more than flap their wings. They use thermals to gain the altitude lost by gliding."
"Any questions?"

Hinder shook his head to get most of the dirt off of him as he listened to the human instructor. For being a human they were most informed on the subject of flight. He appreciated it though found it a bit strange.
"How can landing be easier?" he inquired since he didn't want to get beat up every time he landed.
Zyanya hadn't moved an inch when he dragon nearly crashed into her, she seemed to think nothing of it as she reached out to pet her dragon's shoulder,
"Yeah..and when can I ride on him?" she asked.

"Practice, and lots of it," was Peri's answer to Hinder's question. It was something that seemed to be the most difficult to learn. "It's in the angling of your wings to slow your forward movement before touching down," she added.
Peri eyed Zyanya for a moment. "Well, I suppose you can go ahead now. But just for a very short hop. He'll have to build up those wing muscles. So limit yourselves to one flight together per day at first. He can fly solo some more to help strengthen those muscles, but be sure to watch him so he doesn't overdo it. Too much at once can put too much of a strain on those growing muscles and then he won't be able to fly for some time while they heal."
"What you want to do when riding is to stay as close to his center of balance as possible. So you'll want to sit behind the front legs, but in front of the wings. When he turns, lean away from the turn."
