AIM RP Log between myself and Manda

manda
Very slowly, the brown leopardess shifted her shoulders a bit, keeping a close watch on the mouse sniffing around in the grass just a little ways away. Maybe a mouse was something a cub would normally hunt... and she knew that... but. She'd already tried rabbits, and managed to mess that up spectacularly. In fact, her right front paw still hurt a little bit from where she had stepped into a hole trying to -catch- said rabbit. Shaking her head a little, Auri re-focused her attention on the mouse, then moved one paw forward slowly, creeping closer.

But something she did must have alerted the small creature, for it suddenly looked straight at her and then darted off. Auri hissed in displeasure and sat up, not even bothering to chase the thing. Thankfully, she had shared in a hunt with someone else a few days ago, so she wasn't going hungry just yet. But even then... they had done most of the work. She felt rather stupid and useless, and the worst part was that she didn't even know what she was doing -wrong-.

Kalama heard the sound of shifting grass and smiled softly, thinking it was her daughter out hunting. Most of the time, Kalama kept a close eye on her daughter, but at the moment she simply wanted to relax and let her wander. She pushed herself up to her paws and began to wander away from the tree she was laying under. Slowly, Kalama headed towards where she heard the sound of the grass shifting ever so slightly.

When she noticed the female leopard, Kalama's ears perked up and she headed straight over to the other female. She smiled softly and bowed her head as a greeting. "Hello there, miss." Kalama wondered what exactly the female was doing and let her head tilt to the head ever so slightly. "What exactly were you doing?"

Auri sighed softly and composed herself - though she was a bit startled to suddenly be addressed by another leopardess. She hadn't thought that there was anyone else around here. "I was ... well, trying to catch a mouse, if you want to know the truth," she said, smiling just a little. It was embarrassing, sure. But she was never going to learn if she didn't get some kind of help. She was ... starting to see that now.

Kalama smiled at the other leopardess. "You were a bit too loud, if you don't mind me saying." She said softly, trying not to sound as though she was insulting the other female. Her ears flicked in the direction her daughter was supposed to be hunting and could hear the soft pitter patter of paws. She wondered if she was that bad at hunting as a cub.

Her ears flattened a bit at that and Auri made a little frustrated sound. "I knew I was doing -something- wrong," she murmured, flicking the tip of her tail. Then she shook her head a bit. "Sorry... I'm being a bit rude, aren't I? My name is Auri'chanua. I didn't mean to intrude if this is your territory."

Kalama watched the other female closely then let her leopard spotted tail flick slowly behind her. "I am Kalama." She said simply before shaking her head. "No, no, you are not intruding at all. Every leopard is welcomed here." Now if she was a lion or cheetah, Kalama would not allow her near the area.

Auri's smile widened at that, and she nodded to the other female. "Thank you. So ... you don't mind if I hunt here?" She knew that out in the wilds, others could be protective of their hunting grounds, even if they welcomed others in.

Kalama nodded to the other. "Go right ahead." There were plenty of fish that she and her daughter could eat and this female would only need a little bit of food. "If you need help, just talk to me." Kalama said with a smile.

Well, if that wasn't an opening, Auri didn't know what was. "Actually ... uhm. I really don't know what I'm doing here," she admitted quietly. "You see, I've been held captive by two-legs for ... most of my life."

The mainly white leopard's ears perked as she listened to the other female. "Two-legs?" She hadn't heard of such things before and hoped that she would never run into one. "I guess I could show you a thing or two about hunting. I'm in the middle of teaching my daughter how to hunt." Her ears once again flicked in the direction her daughter was supposed to be hunting. "She is out practicing right now, so I have time to teach you."

"Yes... they're very strange. They walk around on only two legs and they have no fur at all except on top of their heads," Auri replied, shaking her head. "In the place where I grew up, they kept a lot of creatures in a large place with walls. The only animals there to ... hunt... were very lazy and easy to catch. So I'm not used to real hunting."

Kalama gave the female a strange look while trying to picture the strange creature she described. "Must be an ugly thing." She couldn't imagine anything without some sort of fur other than on its head. "Hm... well lets start off with the basics." The female leopard said as she looked around for her daughter. "First off, try to walk through the grass without making any noise."

Auri nodded eagerly at that, and then moved over to where there was more grass - stepping carefully. At the least... she should have more patience with this sort of thing than a cub would. She hoped. But as her mind wandered a little with that thought, the leopardess forgot to watch her paws and she ended up making a little bit of noise.

Kalama shook her head. "Too loud." Her ears flicked towards the sound of a twig snapping then a quiet, cub-like growl. "Try moving a bit slower and focusing all of your attention and energy on the task." It was something she remembered hearing from someone as a cub. Who exactly taught her this, she didn't quite remember. Maybe her mother?

Whoops... "Sorry," she murmured, almost cub-like herself, if she had known it. Trying again, this time she managed to focus a bit more and even she could tell there wasn't as much noise. "I guess... I'd just never really thought about concentrating so hard on being quiet."
