Barney hadn't had the opportunity to work out in almost 3 days. He could already feel his basketball-sized biceps starting to wilt from inactivity. Not that he really thought too much about how buff he looked, but his brain was beginning to fry with all the pent up energy he couldn't unleash on everyday things like books and tables and students. Exercising had become a bit of safety concern for herculean dude. Without it, he just might do something he would later regret. For instance when he nearly demolished the public library last week. But luckily for the Barren Pines community it was finally the weekend, and with not much filled in on his social calendar (read: blank), he finally had time enough to lift weights at the local gym.

On his way there he tried to focus on things that calmed him. The methodical thumping of his feet against the concrete sidewalk, his short forceful breaths. He imagined arriving at the gym, going inside and feeling welcomed by his fellow iron-pumpers. At times though even the most pleasant thoughts couldn't help his self-consciousness. Becoming randomly aware of the people around him made him extremely anxious. Letting his mind run rampant wondering what others might think of his size it became almost impossible to wind him back together once the gears started to turn out of control. Suddenly unable to curb his jogger's momentum Barney began weaving through the people on the sidewalk like a drunk driver. If he hit anyone square-on surely they would be flung into the middle of the street, probably run over by the campus trolley. Just barely aware of the safety of innocent pedestrians, Barney's erratic jogging led him off the sidewalk and onto a shortcut through the woods. And by shortcut I mean there is now a shortcut through the woods. Thanks to Barney.

His anxiety combined with his body's desperate need for training led him down a slippery slope. Literally, there was a slope ahead and it was rather slick. Barney began to tumble, one glorious calf over the other until with a terrible CRACK! his barrel roll ended at the trunk of a large ominous tree. Hearing a girlish yelp which he presumed to be his own he was somewhat surprised to find, now in a skyward viewing stance, that there was a small blonde-haired schoolgirl crawling around in the branches like a monkey.

(watch out for that...tree! xDDDD)

Calintha's greenhouse lay on the edge of the forest, so sometimes she liked to relax and take a walk through the forest. However, today she'd seen something rather interesting in one of the big old oak tree's. There were flowering vines up in the upper branches, but no trace of them down below. After a little investigating, she realized that none of the other tree's had vines in them either.

She couldn't resist the strange plant life, and after quite a bit of effort had managed to climb up the scraggly bark of the tree. Cali didn't work out, per say, but she had quite a bit of muscle from her landscaping activities, particularly the way she threw herself into projects with no abandon. So when she actually got up into the tree it was fairly easy for herself to navigate around, checking branches for stability and looking for the source of the vines.

Finally where the tree had split in two, that's when she noticed them. The vines were leading from the inside of the tree! How ingenious of the vines! They could get so much more nutrients that way.

The girl had just begun taking out her trimming implements, set on getting a sample when a large CRACK hit the tree, and the whole thing shook. Holding on for dear life, she let out a yell, hoping not to fall. The tree recovered from the shock rather quickly, but Cali did not. Still shaking, she looked over the edge of the branches and saw a fellow student with what looked like ...pink eyes? She vaguely remembered him from somewhere, probably house stuff since she was pretty sure that they were in Ebola together.

"What do you think that you are doing! You could've killed me!" She didn't sound too angry, but her voice was shaking still.

(I almost put that! xD;; )

Plucking a stray bush branch from his shaggy mane he realized he could hear much clearer without a twig in his ear. The small girl was shouting at him, probably for almost knocking her off a 20 foot-high oak tree. Just a guess though, he really only heard the last bit of it.

It's funny, normally when someone's angry at him he clams up but interestingly enough this time was not the case. Something about the girl seemed not to effect his anxiousness at all. He felt instead, perfectly at ease. Perhaps also, a concussion had something to do with it. "Sorry!" He called up to her, somehow managing to stand up in the process. There was a lovely Barney-shaped impression where his form smacked into the base of the most likely centuries-old tree. Rubbing the side of head he added, "What are you doing way up there?" It looked like a long ways for such a small girl to climb. Barney was terrified heights. The bigger you are the harder you fall, after all. Gravity was one of the first of many cruel lessons the iron giant learned in his life as a star performer in the circus. Did you know they were going to have him be the Daredevil at first? The last thing anyone needs is a 250 lb ape shot out of a cannon into a crowd of unsuspecting townsfolk. No, his place was most certainly with two feet planted firmly on the ground. It was safer for everyone that way.

This must be one brave girl then he thought, ogling the distance between them as she spoke. As much as he could admit he wanted to continue their conversation without shouting so loudly, there's no way he was coming up there to do it. Besides, he reasoned the old oak tree had suffered enough by his account.

Did it always have that lean to it?

Still slightly shaking, but doing better, Calintha quickly turned around and took several clippings and transplants, placing them carefully in a small pouch that she'd clipped on to the back of her belt. She kept a pouch around, wrought in leather, for just such occasions.

Steadying herself, and taking a deep breath, she ignored the other teens question as she carefully worked her way down the tree. Going down was easier right? Right? It didn't seem to be. Branches that she swore that she could reach before were just out of reach. A few of them she just sort of dropped from all together.

She'd reached the last real sturdy branch before the ground, about 10-15 ft still from the bottom. Christ, how had she climbed up here in the first place? Cali internally shrugged and just sort of chalked it up being so focused on her plants. Sitting down on the branch, feet dangling, she got a better look at her teen counterpart. Barney? Sounded vaguely familiar to her, but she wasn't good with names.

Now that she was closer though, she certainly knew they were both in Ebola together. "I'm exploring?" Seemed the only logical explanation that she could shout down, at least.

As soon as she had said that she started swinging her feet back and forth. Something was wrong though, it seemed like they were shaking more than they should be. Looking down at her feet and seeing nothing wrong, she abruptly stopped, only to find in horror that the tree was making less than normal creaking sounds. "Uhh...."
