INTRODUCTION
A PROMISE.

It started with a hanging.

A world littered with controversy and magic has recently fallen in chaos with the rise of the Black Death, as thousands die with every blinking hour. A mysterious man named Diefendorf claims to be a doctor of unknown origins, and proposes a radical idea to the house of sciences: The only way to cure death is to be death. This, coupled with evidence of inhumane experimentation on the ill, children, women and men alike, Diefendorf's title is stripped and his laboratory is burnt. After five years in prison, he's sent to the gallows to be hanged, showcased in front of the miserable crowd of diseased citizens. They look confused, bloodthirsty, blank. Just as he died before the ungrateful people he promised to cure, he let out a deranged laugh and looked to the cynical crowd. With halfhearted smile, he uttered one thing:

"I have found a cure."

It's been a mere six years after his execution, and death tolls have been rising. Desperate for a cure, some scientists across the nation regret the execution of Diefendorf. At the same time, conspiracies and riots are on the rise, and chaos reigns over Panymium's conscience. Was killing the only man with a cure truly worth it, and was the lives of a few worth lives of millions?

Just what was the cure?

Just how many people fell into Diefendorf's hands?

What have they become?

THE BLACK PLAGUE
THE BLACK PLAGUE, THE GREAT PESTILENCE, THE BLACK DEATH.

The Black Plague* is a mysterious infliction that has crossed through many regions of Panymium, and has terrorized the lives of many for the past decade. No one knows for sure what it is: some claim it to be a curse, some a disease, and others a bad omen. Whatever it is, the Black Plague has instilled fear into the lives of many Panymium citizens, and tension between the three main parties of the land have grown to be more taut than ever.

Symptoms of the Black Plague include:
- Deterioration of the skin (blackening)
- Constant fainting
- Headaches (recurring)
- Muscle weakness
- Hysteria and or dementia
- Hallucinations
- Hemoptysis (coughing up blood)
- Buboes

And others, varying patient by patient; person(s) afflicted with the Black Death usually die within a slow seven days. Causes for getting the Black Plague is currently unknown, but the Plague Doctor has found peculiar patterns in location:

- High rates: populated/industrialized places, places facing extreme weather (extreme cold or hot), moist areas
- Low rates: Vastly unpopulated areas, the mountains, locations uninhabited by humans, sacred sites

The Black Plague in this B/C is not a carbon copy of the historical Bubonic Plague, which terrorized Europe during the early mid 14th century; it is merely based off of that particular disease.

PLAGUES
TWISTED THINGS.

Plagues are among one of the many mysteries surrounding Panymium since the outbreak of the Black Plague. These odd creatures are twisted mimics of items found around Panymium, but it was only up to recent times that people realized they can 'change'. Rumors say that these twisted beings hang around those about to be inflicted with the Black Death, and many citizens of Panymium do their best to get rid of them. Recently, they've gone around haunting more than their fair share of citizens, and three of the most influential parties in the continent have taken action to collect them.

There's a catch, though: The only person who has any clue surrounding the growth of these Plagues is the Plague Doctor, who's said to be followed by orphan Georgie Malt and his guardian, Adal. Are you willing to follow the will of your alliance and face this illusive creature specialist?

ALLIANCES
POLITICAL MAYHEM.

Kings, queens, and emperors rule the provinces of Panymium with an iron fist, but the true influences of the continent lie in the hands of three rivaling alliances: The House of Obscuvos, the Council of Sciences, and the Fellowship of Mages. Each claim to hold the truth to reason and a wholesome knowledge the world-- but which faction will you follow?

THE HOUSE OF OBSCUVOS (CULTISTS)
Religious fanatics under the House of Obscuvos. They believe the Black Death is a message from a higher God, Obscuvos, who will save the material plane from chaos by completely enveloping it in nothingness by slowly eating it; once he spits out the 'bones of the world' all that will remain are true believers. With a sudden rise in Plagues, Obscuvans have been ordered by the High Prophet to collect as many Plagues as possible. Just what is he planning?

THE COUNCIL OF SCIENCES (SCIENTISTS)
Considered witches and wizards of the 'new age', they look to solving problems with logic, proof, and pure science. While highly organized, the execution of Diefendorf left a sour taste in their mouths as scientists spend endless nights trying to find a medicinal cure for the Black Death. In recent days, scientists have reported cases of Plague haunting-- but for what reason are these pestilent beings haunting them?

THE FELLOWSHIP OF MAGES (MAGES)
Men, women and children practiced in the ways of magic. Considered the scientists of the old age, they look to traditional methods of research like herbal medicine, alchemy and sacrifice. The rulers of Panymium are powerful mages themselves, though the recent blame of the Black Death against warlocks has led to the general avoidance of them. With the Council looking for ways to clear their title, many mages have collected Plagues in order to find a way to ease them of their state and restore honor to their names-- but how?
