xD I came home from work and went over to my tank, I saw my female ram sitting on a leaf and I thought there was sand. Upon closer inspection, they were eggs! She and the male have been guarding them and fanning them. There are so many other fish and I'm really worried about the eggs, but I was told in another forum that the rams themselves may eat the eggs and/or young since this is their first spawn.
I'M SO FREAKING EXCITED! When I saw the eggs I started screaming and jumping up and down xD My mom was like "that's it? your fish just laid eggs? big deal."

Fun, isn't it? As for surviving, it looks like you have a good amount of plants, so you may have a few make it. If you want to shoot for a higher number of survivors, a cheap and easy thing to do is get one of those little net-box things. Not as good as having their own tank, but it works better than leaving them in the tank, that's for sure! How are they doing now?

The eggs ended up getting eaten by the next morning. Tough to say who did it since it's a community tank. Not sure what I'll do next time they spawn, I really wanna raise some and have a few more, but there's no where I can keep babies that they won't get eaten by someone. The temptation to set up more tanks is ever high, but my space and budget are telling me noooo.

The one I have hangs over the side of the tank; none of the other fish can get in, so my babies are safe. 4laugh It isn't a budget-breaker, either; I think mine was $8, and has lasted many many years.

They are sooo~ handy for those "Oh, crap!" moments when you have a flurry of eggs and no time to set up an extra tank. 3nodding Just snip off whatever leaf they are attached to (if you are so lucky) and drop 'em in. I always keep one handy; many fish-lets have been saved over the years with that contraption!
