Kaishori padded along a small dirt trail that wasn't visible to anyone other than those who traversed it. The sun bore down on her pelt, and she felt nervous. The pit of her stomach was turning, and it was almost as if a bunny was thumping around inside her. It wasn't something she was used to, but this.....this was an important thing. She had only these lands by chance and stories, knowing in her heart that it was the right place to be. Now she just had to....prove it.
Her nose lifted, and the small framed lioness paused on the trail, lifting a paw as she scanned the area. She wasn't really looking for anyone in particular, though she hoped that she could find someone willing to let her prove herself to the pride. It meant the world to her to have finally found a place she felt comfortable with, and she was overjoyed that it was a place that accepted her nature. Her yellow eyes glinted in the sun, and she stumbled forward a bit, unable to see for a little while until the affect wore off.

The large male was not yet on duty, but a guard never really stopped guarding and no matter the hour or the place he was alert. He might have been mildly annoyed that he was detouring away from the chance to eat, but the female who approached looked interesting. He could see it in the way she moved, in the way she looked around...this was one wished to join the pride.
He moved to head her off, the rules had been explained to him, a duel would need to be conducted before he could grant her entrance into the lands. He felt his muscles flex as he neared her with speed before halting with ease, now he knew how to move with the terrain instead of fighting it.
"Are you looking for something?" His tone was mildly amused, even faced with a possible challenge or threat of hostility he managed to find joy in the fact he was doing a duty for his pride. The slow grin that crept up his muzzle was elusive, was it a welcome or a mockery?

"Hm?" Kaishori shook her head quickly, trying to regain the sight that had temporarily been taken away. Her stance was broad, and she turned her head over to where a large red lion stood before her. "I..." He had to be a member of the pride. She was so anxious, but she wouldn't allow for herself to show it. "I wish to....find permanent residence...." she was a little flustered trying to figure out how to say what she meant. "I want to live here." The words were almosts spit out as she tried to force them out as quickly as possible. She had to admit, she was a little embarrassed about how she phrased it. This was probably no way of first meeting a member of the pride she wanted to live in and become part of.
"I need to....prove myself." She could feel her face heat up in a blush, but she knew it was a necessary thing to become part of the pride; the stories had at least told her that. She hadn't been worried about it until now, when it really mattered, and here it was, staring her in the face.

Yensid watched curiously and waited, the slow smirk remained in place even as the lioness tried to get her words out. He remembered the sensation of knowing you had to prove yourself and he nodded softly as she finished speaking.
"Indeed, to enter these lands you shall have to prove yourself, since I have intercepted you I offer you a duel. You have but to defeat me and I shall escort you in." His smirk slowly broadened. "Don't worry it's not a duel to the death, nothing permanent or too bad."
Slowly his body sank into a low crouch, the smirk faded leaving him looking serious, dangerous. "You may retreat if you are unwilling to duel." He added with a mild challenge in his tone. He hoped she didn't turn tail and run though, he wanted to see what she was made of. His yellow eyes gleamed and narrowed on her waiting for her to make the first move.

"I am willing." She dipped her head, a little hesitant at first, but not willing to back out. It may have been her downfall to be hesitant at first, but it was, after all, her first attempt, and her first duel against a male ever, so she had no idea how it would play out. She wouldn't be surprised at all if she fell to such a large and powerful opponent at all; it would make her proud that she fell to someone who was truly better and stronger than she.
She jerked forward, half-unsure on how to first engage. She raised a paw at the male, hurling through the air in a fighting stance. Her tail balanced her through the air, and she quickly came within range of the large male's frame. Her paw swept down, but she found that it hit nothing but air as it swiped downward.

He saw her move, she was graceful, but she hadn't been looking for his weak points it seemed. He moved away from her swipe and circled to her side still crouching down. His gaze fell on her paws and he watched her move, no he wouldn't strike, he would wait.
He knew the odds were in his favor, he was larger then her, familiar with the terrain, and he wasn't nervous. He certainly didn't underestimate her for being a female though, if anything it made him all the more wary. His tail gave a soft twitch, he refrained from banter too curious to see what she would do to distract her with words.

It was frustrating, it was, having the first strike and missing. It only flustered Kaishori as she swayed back and forth, thinking about what to do next. It was more difficult then she could have imagined, being on the spot for something like this. The only thing she didn't want was to make a fool of herself. No, her pride wouldn't be able to handle that at all.
She started at him again, going more for an ankle with her jaws. She tried to slam into his side, but found that her small frame couldn't overcome his stance and connection to the ground. If anything, it may have jostled him a bit. It really didn't help that Kaishori had been one of the smallest in her family. She was petite, but muscular. Unfortunately, her muscles weren't enough to overcome simply physics. Her failed body slam ruined any hope of an ankle attack, and she rolled onto the ground, keeping the defensive while laying on her side.

He saw her attempt coming and managed to move, he felt only the softest thud against his side, and he might had take the chance to take her down, but she rolled away quickly enough. She was smaller, but now that she realized would she use that to her advantage or attempt something else?
Her was certainly curious, it was curiosity that made him wait when he should have been driving at her. Still, he wanted to see if she learned from her mistakes the way he had. He had slowly come out of the crouch though, now he waited for her his stance a bit more relaxed, ready to move instead of spring.

It didn't take long for Kai to think of something to do. She was underneath, and she thought that gave her some sort of advantage, for this small moment. Her mind raced, and she finally came to a quick conclusion on what action to take next. She shifted her body position quickly, searching for a weak point on his body that she could get at.
Her haunches tensed, and she rolled, almost hurling herself at the undercarriage of the large lion's body. She just knew that there had to be a weak spot there somewhere. She thrashed her paws, almost spastically, trying to get a hit in. She felt contact, just under his elbow, and quickly braced her body, waiting for an attack she knew would come soon. Her insides welled with pride as she felt the small victory; it truly was insignificant, but the fact that she had made a hit at all made her swell and glow.

Yensid gave a grunt of surprised pain, she was fast and her hits weren't soft either, but he managed to recover quick enough. Despite the smarting pain he felt in his ribs he took advantage of the way she was underneath to pounce on her.
He kept his claws in even at his paws landed on her firmly in a blow that made a dull 'thump' sound against her body. She could beat him, but not today, he tried to make the blow hard enough to discourage her, yet not so hard she would be injured too badly.

Thinking back on her actions, there was probably a road that could've saved her from being pounced on. Or maybe he was just that cunning. Kaishori let out a grunt as the weight fell down on her; a seering pain came up through her ankles, and she just knew that the position she was in wasn't meant to be squished. She tried to wriggle out from underneath, but only made inches at a time, her ankles feeling worse as the time went on.
Finally out, she half limped away, her back ankle now known to be injured. She rolled her shoulders, as a way to pump herself up and get her mind back on what was at hand. She knew this battle was over, but she had to stick it out, to prove to herself that she could. If she couldn't stand this, there was no way she'd allow herself to be a part of a pride like this. That thought alone kept her going, but in the back of her mind, it was a humiliating defeat that kept her from staying down. She turned back to face him, awaiting his next move.

Well he had to admire her spirit, she was still going to face him, admirable. He circled quickly before leaping to swipe at her trying to get her paws out from under her. He realized as quickly as he had moved that he wasn't making contact, his paw swiped uselessly through air.
His mind was on food, he was hungry, but he couldn't exactly call a lunch break, no he was going to have to find some way to end this.

Kaishori felt a wave of relief as she watched the paw swipe by just before her. She wasn't in the mood for any more injuries, as it would only bring her down later. This miss, it was one less would she had to heal later that night.
She shifted positions, trying to run at him after his miss, but her back ankle quickly doubled out to the side unnaturally. There was no mistaking it now, it was hurt. Her front paws went out awkwardly to stop her fall, but she knew it would leave herself vaulnerable for another attack. Her eyes closed, and she knew this would be over soon. She only hoped she could hobble away from this with dignity, and maybe a new friend within the pride. Or at least an acquaintance.

Yensid saw her ankle and he winced, perhaps he had been a tad more forceful then needed. Yet he saw her now, she was done, a pity, but he had no doubt she would be back and better prepared.
He leapt to pin her down yet kept his full weight from slamming into her, no he only wanted her to know that it was over. "Yield, you've done well but this is over..." He was careful not to further agitate her ankle and he even offered her a soft apologetic smile, she was a worthy opponent.

Kaishori bit her bottom lip, hating to have to admit defeat. It was hard enough that she was losing, but the situation only made it worse. She knew she'd have to wait to try again, and that's what really hurt the young lioness. She knew that the time waiting would be spent training harder, thinking faster, and building up her endurance.
"Fine, it's done with." She let out a sigh, saddened by the loss. He was a great opponent, but it was still hard. She twitched her ankle to make sure she could still move it, and sheepishly smiled back at the male. Wiggling out, she hobbled a few feet away from him, head dipped while she gathered her thoughts.
"I thank you for this, even though it didn't end so well on my part." She grinned a little, not wanting to linger on the defeat. "I hope that I can return again and face the same expertise as I have today." She knew she'd be back, and she knew she'd be better next time. "Until then, sir." She dipped her head briefly in a sort of bow, and then began to hobble off to a place of rest until the next duel.
