It was finally -real- practice time! HELL YES!
Z had instructed Demy in the mystic ways of renting a guitar, and the two boys had trekked outside to get some actual practice time in. The blonde had practically bounced the entire way to their destination. He was excited. Real excited. This was going to jump start his career as a rockstar baby!
So why exactly did this thing sound -so bad-? With a frustrated sigh, Demy flopped onto his a** and did the first thing he could think of...which was whine to Z. "Zzzzz.....!" The boy frowned, eying the other. "This thing doesn't sound right man..."
As it was, the rental guitar desperately needed tuning.

"Z" grimaced and nodded. "Here" he said perfunctorily. "Let me see, it needs tuning." He proffered one hand and carefully set down his own case. Taking the guitar from Dem he sat down on the grass and started fussing with the 'little knobs' and plucking the strings till one by one they started sounding better. He even got so lost in it, that he started humming softly to himself to match the notes, turning them a little more... tighter... looser... till he finally handed it back.
"There, its not great but its better." He started opening his own case as well, He honestly preferred his electric one, but he'd dug up a more traditional violin from the band room and snuck it out for use, he tested it too and crinkled his nose, fussed more and then nodded.
"You first... lets hear what you have got."

Dale's ears had initially pricked when she heard something. Something that sounded bad. She looked up from her chocolate malt at the hill across the street from the Pop's Soda and Ice Cream Parlor. It was awful, something awful. She tilted her gold-tinted shades down and glared at the few people who stared at the crazy woman drinking a chocolate malt outside in late November. She was Dale Spencer and, by god, you didn't question her methods. Well, that's what she thought, anyway. To most people, she just looked silly. But Crystal Academy girls knew what she was about, and every time her eyes wandered, they knew that it was to another fine pair of legs.
Which was why the bad guitar strumming was really souring her mood. She uncrossed her legs and picked up her malt, making short and deliberate steps towards the grassy hill. When she arrived and saw the two boys, 'Z' had just finished tuning the awful guitar.
She looked at one, and then the other, and took off her sunglasses. It was nowhere near as frightening as when Gunn Killingworth did it, and if you asked her about it, she'd deny it as a coincidence. Well, who knows. Either way, the long-legged woman looked down at the two of them with a bemused expression. She wasn't in her Crystal Academy uniform, instead choosing simple black slacks and a brown leather jacket. With the shades pushed up on her head, she almost looked like some butch version of Amelia Earhart.
And she took another sip of her malt.
"What the hell are you guys trying to play?"

Tuning.
....What the hell was -tuning-? He never had to 'tune' his guitar in Guitar Hero! The thing was -always- ready to play. SHEESH, what a waste of time.
But still, he bit his lip and tried to suppress his comments about how stupid tuning was. It didn't work well, as a few still slipped out. "Tuning...it's an instrument, shouldn't it like..ya know..sound good?" Clearly he had no idea how this instrument stuff -really- worked. But it was okay! He was totally born for this role!
Now he just had to learn.
When Z handed back the instrument Demy quickly took it and looked it over. Huh...nothing looked different. But man oh man, when he strummed it the thing sounded ten times better. "Thanks Z!" He had just been about to bust out his awesome skills, which probably would have looked like some horrible parody of something he saw on a movie and would sound a hell of a lot worse, when Dale approached. Hand frozen mid strum, Demy simply stared at the other. "Uh....?'
Right um...hrm. The blonde fidgeted in his own clothing (a simple black jacket that looked like it had been attacked with various neon paint and a pair of jeans), and shot the newcomer a grin. "I...you know I really have no idea. Haven't messed with a guitar much....well an actual guitar. I'm quite good at the one down at the arcade, my name's all over the high scoreboard ya know!" Was he bothered someone had heard him playing the guitar like s**t? Nope! Not at all!

"Nothing -YET-" Zac snapped almost simultaneous to Dem "We're TUNING the damned thing, or have you never heard of that. You know, the tension on the strings goes off and so does the sound? Funny how that works, entropy and all."
His eyes narrowed with irritation at her phrasing. God, like they -wanted- the damned thing to sound bad.

"Whew, we have firecracker and an arcade pro, what a combo. Don't talk to me like I don't know what you're doing," Dale looked at the short one with a raised eyebrow. "I know what tuning is, I do it a lot myself. Though, tuning a piano is different. I was just wondering what Guitar Genius over there was playing. An out-of-tune guitar makes sense, now. For a second I thought he was trying to be Neal Schon or something."
She crossed her arms, looking from the guitar to Z's case.
"And a violin? What, you starting a band?"

"If you didn't want to be treated like you didn't know what you were talking about, then next time... ask if someone is tuning." He grumped and fished out his bow.
"What if we are..." He said challenging still, then gave her another look over, calculating... "Why, are you interested?" Oddly with the calculating look his tone turned more civil.
"We're not exactly looking for 'Journey' here, regardless of how the tuning went." "And despite my instrument... we're not exactly looking for classical either."

"Guitar Genius, I kinda like that name! Though I much prefer Hero, ya know. Total whiz at that game." Any attempts at insulting him went way over the boy's head. In fact that goofy a** grin never left his face.
"Z...cmon man, be nice ya know?" -That- was beating a dead horse. Z was definitely the more guarded of the group. But hey! Demy could hope that maybe his constant whines would get through to Z's head.
Some day....
"But yeah, totally starting a band!" The blonde blurted out, completely unable to keep the exciting news to himself. "It's gonna be awesome man! It was all Z's idea!"

"Forgive me, I momentarily forgot the name of that game," Dale couldn't help but laugh. "I like you, kiddo. If you're in a band, then of course I'd be interested."
She looked at 'Z', and her grin disappeared.
"He came up with the idea? Really? He seems like he has his britches on too tight to start a band. It's nice to see a violin player, though."
Dale put her hands behind her back and walked around the duo, as if in thought.
"Would your little band be in need of a pianist? I know classical, but I can work with something 'not exactly' classical. Just as long as I don't have to start belting out about a 'midnight train going anywhere'"

Z gave a rather sarcastic bow with the bow and violin in hand, arching an eyebrow though in interest at the mention of actual interest in the band. He glanced at Dem... "We might..."
he paused
"Actually if you promise -not- to belt out midnight train I'd be -more- interested."

Of course he was liked! He was always liked. Except those times he wasn't... It was one of the many perks of being Demy!
"Gonna be in a band, yep! And GREAT!" The more the merrier right? This sure was turning into a neat little group! "And really! It was all his idea, and he's the one that found the rental guitar for me...just to fit in til I can get a real one." Still grinning, he gave the guitar a few practice strums. Argh, this -was- going to be hard to get used to. BUT! He had promised Z, and he couldn't back out of that.
Nope, he just couldn't disappoint Z.
"Cmon Z, a piano would be pretty neat...."

Dale just laughed.
"Oh, you don't know, I could be a great singer!" she flicked some of her short hair back before shaking her head. "But I think I'll spare you from the magnificence of my voice, so your head doesn't explode."
Was she being serious, or was she joking about the fact that she probably couldn't sing? Who knows, she was arrogant enough to say something like that, but...
She tried to keep a straight face, but couldn't, and broke out into laughter.
"Oh, sorry, boys. That was a bad joke, wasn't it? So, a pianist, a violinist, and a Guitar Hero. We do need a vocalist, don't we?"

"Hrmmph" Zac said but didn't argue the point, with him that was as good as agreement sometimes. He just didn't -trust- people.
"We have a candidate for singer... She looks like she could be his cousin even" he flicked the bow at Dem in indication."
"Blond and rainbow hair, and, worse comes to worse I'm quite sure I know an alternative." He said though that last bit sounded more begrudging.
He glanced down at Dem and back at Dale. "This could almost work out."

It was probably a good thing that Demy hadn't offered to try his hand at singing as well as guitar playing. It was his style to go out of his way to be in the spotlight...
But his singings kills were worse than his guitar playing skills. And that was really saying something.
"Dude, her hair is -awesome- okay? It has like...rainbows, and she let me pet it." He grinned, thinking back to how damn AWESOME that hair was. He'd totally do that if Hillworth wasn't such a stick in the mud over fun things. ...Z would likely not approve.
Setting aside the guitar for a moment, he hopped to his feet and extended a hand towards Dale for a shake. "Name's Demy...well not really but that's what everyone calls me. And if Z says it's okay...then welcome to the band?"

'Z' gave a long suffering -sigh-. "Fine... welcome to the band, not that we have a-name- yet...and we probably need a Drummer but welcome aboard." he tucked the violin under his chin and sawed out a few notes from Hotel California before swapping to Pachelbel's cannon.
