Faerin pranced across the open meadow with her tail held high. The crisp morning air filled her lungs as she indulged herself in a bit of foal like behavior. It wasn't often that she was so carefree but today just made her feel like running across the meadow without a care in the world. Her short mane flowed out behind her as made her way through the grasses. The leaves in the trees had started to change from greens to red and yellows.
She slowed a bit to take in the beautiful scene that surrounded her. It was the perfect way to start out the day. She shook her head slightly and let out a happy whinny. Indeed it was a good day and she continued her prancing not having a destination in mind.

Lorcan trotted along, feet falling heavy on the slightly damp grass. He moved along, curious and slightly bored. It was morning, and he found himself suddenly in a rather bright and cheery meadow. Not that he minded bright and cheery meadows, but he was really to bored to bother with the bugs and birds and who knows what else. Oh well, there didn't seem to be much else to occupy his mind. So, he decided to come up with his own game. His eyes locked on a flower and he slowly approached it before... bam! His large front hooves landed on it squarely, crushing it. Amused, he moved to the next, and couldn't help but let out a short laugh as bugs flew up and away.
"Oh no, your not getting away from me!" He got himself ready to take chase, but a happy whinny distracted him, giving the bug a chance to escape. "Oh come on! Of all the rotten..." He looked around for the cause of the sound, eyes locking on a sparkling grey coat. "Looks like I'm not alone after all." He turned the rest of his body so he was now heading the direction of the other, though he kept his eyes averted, giving the illusion of obliviousness.

As Faerin continued her playful antics she suddenly had the feeling that she wasn't alone. She stopped herself and glanced around. After a few moments her eyes fell on another horse walking her way. Upon closer inspection she noticed it was a stallion. She could only hope he was friendly since she had no intention to deal with a rude stallion right now.
She began to walk towards the stallion as he approached her. Well he looked friendly enough, but looks could be deceiving. "Hello there." She called out to him as he got closer. Her steps slowed slightly now and she stood in a relaxed fashion now that he was close enough for her to get a better look at him. He didn't look like he wanted to cause trouble.

Lorcan blinked his eyes as he turned, feigning surprise at the sudden appearance of this... He paused. Mare. Well now this was gonna be rather interesting. He hoped she wasn't some little clingy mare who was going be an annoyance. He'd take bored over annoyed any day. He watched the mare move towards him and slow. He slowed his own gait and stopped, close enough that he would be obviously addressing the mare, but far enough that he did not seem imposing.
"Good morning." He said, manners kicking in. Darn, he was trying to get over those stupid manners his mother kicked into him. Oh well, old habits died hard. Perhaps, Lorcan thought, this would put any conversation they might have on a good foot. And any good acquaintance he could manage to gain before the night would prove useful. The last thing he wanted was to have to sleep somewhere uncomfortable...again. "And how would you be this morning?" His tone was easy and light.

Faerin's ears flicked a bit as the stallion spoke. Well he did seem to have some good manners at least. "I am doing well thank you. How are you?" Her voice was silky and even toned as she spoke. "My name is Faerin. What is yours?" She studied him slightly with a critical eye. She hadn't seen him before or at least couldn't recall ever seeing him and she had a good memory for remembering faces. He could merely be passing through or new to the area. It was nice to see another draft horse in the area, so few of them seemed to be out there.

Quick to jump questions, this one. Lorcan flicked his ears as well, in slight agitation. "I am well." He nodded his head, then moved to address her other, and in his mind, hasty, question. "My name is Lorcan." The mare's once over didn't get past him. He, of course, expected her to be curious, even cautious. He was a strange, large, and rather handsome stallion. The poor thing probably didn't know what to do with herself. He snickered mentally at that thought.
"Perhaps you might be able to tell me where about I am currently located, Faerin." He was sure to use her name. He straightened his posture slightly, moving his head to the side. He gave the mare a look over himself. She seemed calm enough. Her coloring was certainly dull. Grey. He'd never been a fan of grey. Though the pattern helped. And she was clean. Always a good sign.

"It is good to meet you Lorcan." She said as she inclined her head slightly. "I wish I could tell you, however I am quite new to the area myself. I do know that this area is bordered by a large river to the east." She paused for a moment before continuing. "There is a herd who's land falls on the other side of the river, though I have not seen any others in this area."
She watched him inspect her much like she had done to him. She had to hold in a chuckle as he straightened his posture, was he trying to make himself look better? Not like he needed to look better, but still it was amusing to watch him try.

Well, a dud then. "I see thank you." He said, a bit shortly. Well that was great, he was just as well off has he had been before he stopped to talk to this mare. Ah but she had mentioned a herd. Perhaps they would be of help. Perhaps even a temporary shelter, metaphorically speaking. "This herd, what do you know of them?" he questioned.
He tried to keep himself from twitching in agitation and the situation. Sure, He was just fine making a friend, or talking to a stranger, but this one didn't seem to have much in way of conversation starters. And, at the moment he was more concerned about finding someone to help secure a place to sleep, come the night. Sure it was morning, but he'd rather not worry the rest of the day, it was so bothersome. Hmm... perhaps he should ask her if she knew of a place to rest. He thought about it. If she had no good info on the herd, he would inquire.

She thought for a moment at his question. Having seen the herd only a few times she had to recall what they were like. "Well the herd has seemed nice form the times I have run into them. It's run by a chestnut stallion named..." She trailed off, trying desperately to remember the stallions name. She had been told it once, by one of the mares that she spoke with but for the life of her couldn't recall what it was at this time. "...well his name I can't remember at the moment. But the herd is quite large from the last time I saw it. Probably a good twenty horses." She watched him as she spoke, he was clearly a bit impatient about something, maybe he wanted to get out of here.
"Although I'm not sure how well the stallion would take to you going over there, he is quiet overprotective of any who go near his mares. However over here there is no need to worry about him, he doesn't cross the river unless he has to. I prefer to stay on this side, there is plenty of food here and plenty of shelter to sleep in at night."

A large herd was good, Lorcan thought. However, as she mentioned the overprotectiveness of the stallion, he had to roll his eyes. "Only those who fear are overprotective of their herd." He snorted, muttering it to himself. But it quickly ruled out going there. He didn't want to deal with a potential issue.
His thoughts turned back to the mare in front of him as she continued talking. Wait... did she say shelter. Perhaps she wasn't a loss after all. "About this shelter..." He started. "Where might this be?" He asked. He did not elaborate about how he was even more new, and how he did not like the idea of sleeping alone in the open. She didn't need to know that. All she needed to do was tell him where this shelter was. And the food. Then... well perhaps then she could prove to have something interesting to say.
He doubted that a little, but at the moment, that was not important.

Faerin cocked an eyebrow at the stallion. "Indeed." She replied to her statement about those who fear are overprotective. She would have said more but then he seemed quite interested in knowing more about the shelter in this area. Well at least she finally found something to talk about that seemed to interest him.
"The tree's over there." She motioned with her head. "Provide good shelter at night. And their branches are thick enough to keep most rain off of you as well." That was one of the reasons she stayed in this place, it provided a good amount of shelter from the elements as well as had a good variety of plants to eat. "There are a few apple trees hidden within them. Although this time of year there aren't many apples left."

Lorcan's eyes glanced to where she motioned, nodding slightly, a sign he was listening. "I see... Not a fan of apples anyway." He mentioned. "Any other hidden gems, so to speak, you might know of? And care to share?" He asked. He didn't miss her look when he mentioned the overprotectiveness, nor did he plan on ignoring it. But at the moment, the chesnut stallion was curious...
Ok so he wanted to know what that look was for. "Not to pry..." He began. "But do tell, what was that...interesting look for?" He asked, keeping a slight smirk from his mouth. He didn't know why he felt like smirking. It just seemed right, in the moment. He mentally shrugged and figured it was a strange temptation. Unimportent. "a good story about some overprotective stallion of your own?" He guessed. He had no clue, but once curious, well... Lorcan was not one to back down till he knew what another had in mind.

Faerin took a moment to think. Were there any other important details about the area she had left out. "No other hidden gems, so to speak, that I can remember. Although I am yet to wander through the entire forest. There may still be things that need to be discovered there." She told him after a moment.
His other question almost threw her off. What look, she thought. Oh yes, that look. "That look, oh that was nothing really. And yes I may have a story about an overprotective stallion. Though I may not be willing to tell you about it." She fell silent for a moment. "And what of you? Have you had any run ins or stories that involve those that are overprotective of their things?"

Ah, this one was smart. Lorcan thought. Answering his question, with a half answer, and another question. He had to had it to her, it was smart. The dull coat and...stunning conversation hid a fair mind, it seemed. Not that he thought she was stupid before... just not as quick as it seemed she was.
"I suppose everyone has an overprotective story of their own. But, well Why would I be inclined to share my own if you do to not wish to reciprocate? It is rather rude, don't you think?" He smoothly replied back. Inside his head he was happy, in a childish, ha ha answer that, kind of way. But he didn't let this move out. He was trying to be a nice acquaintance. And she had helped him with his problem of shelter for the night. So he couldn't just be rude to her. Ok so he did hold his head a little higher, in a slight sign of a bit of cockiness. But he was sure it was minor enough she wouldn't link what he said with his change in posture.
