In my opinion, though I know some may argue this with me, you don't need to go to church in order to be Christian. I don't go to church. I don't have time. I know that I should always make time for God in my life, but that's hard to do when you're sixteen and in college, with parents who work 12 hour shifts on Sundays. That doesn't mean that people who do go to church are more Christian than me, though!
I was baptized as a baby, but I don't even believe in that. At some point, I will be baptized again, when I understand what's going on and do it for myself. I believe in God. I KNOW that Jesus died on the cross for me. I accept him as my savior! That is what makes me a Christian, not going to church.

I believe that being a proper Christian doesn't mean you go to church regularly and be like, "oh, yeah, I'll do that." It's how you act outside of the church and how well your connection with God is. Being a good Christian is setting good examples for others and try loving and forgiving others as much as God does.
