This is based off a short story I wrote during September, while I felt a bit enraged about the situation occuring after hurricane Katrina. I thought, what if this madness happened, but everywhere?

The Story
It all began in the year 2006. That year, the worst set of hurricanes in history occured, and in record numbers. While the coast itself was destroyed, the rest of the country would have survived, except for one thing. The gasoline companies, using the hurricanes and war as an excuse, gouged gasoline prices like never before. At $4.00 a gallon, a riot broke out in New York; and from that riot, sprung many others, slowly sweeping the country. The looting and lawlessness of the damage areas spread into the other parts of the country. The government declared a state of emergency, but other countries refused to assist. The government was overthrown, but nothing was erected in it's place. It began an age known as the Descent, in which humanity and society declined to the point of no return. Many fled, and the US was declared, international territory. A place to exile people, and place to which criminals flee, the closest thing to hell on mortal Earth...

Organizations

Even a corrupt, criminal world has it's factions.

Terrorists - escaping from their home countries, they rule with complete dominion over the damaged South eastern coast, forcing their believes on others, and waging war with other factions, as that's all they seem to know how to do.

Resistance - stationed out of what used to be California, the resitance is composed of surviving remanents, foreign aid volunteers, and others who seek to try and set the country back in place.

Gangs - various millita gangs carry dominion over parts of the country not controlled by the resistance of terrorists. Their actions and motives are mob-like at best.

Aisen - gang lord who controls a territory including both Arizona and New Mexico. He is currently trying to take over California, at war with the resistance.
