A piece of glowing space rock clinked quietly against the glass of the jar that contained it. Said jar was in Basil's pocket and he asked himself for the millionth time why he had accepted the stupid star as payment for Forney's rent. It wasn't even worth anything for goodness sake. It wasn't that Basil was worried about money, no, he was simply growing irritated at his new housemate. Forney was driving him up the wall and Basil was at his wits end.

Somehow, because of his annoying pastry chef, Basil was quickly making his way to the local ice cream parlor with Molly trotting obediently at his side. For some reason, Forney couldn't get the ice cream himself. Young Ju had offered to go, but Basil jumped at the chance, wanting to get out of the house and away from Forney.

With a sigh, the teen tread the familiar path, confident that Molly was leading him to the right place. He was just smart like that and he couldn't have wished for a better seeing eye dog.

Turning at just the right moment, Basil was now walking down the sidewalk where the ice cream parlor resided. The day was warm, he knew that much, and was almost glad at the prospect of cool ice cream. He'd just have to remember to get Forney's double mint chip.

Miss D'Jour-Medina said she would buy the ice cream herself.

Of course, that was, if she could even get there. Walking was her only mode of transportation, and the violin case was seemingly getting heavier by the second! Oh, what she would give for a bicycle or a car....Or at least a lighter instrument.

Over her shoulder was her purse, within it, her own little fallen star, which had been out during her violin lesson. But the star had PALED at the horrible shrieks that came out of the strings instead of blissful music. It would have WORK to do with this one!

Piaotte had seen the star loose its glow just a tad, and had taken pity on the small thing, putting it back into her purse, hoping it would at least help block the noise. And now, she had been sent to go retrieve some ice cream for the symphony party. But in truth, it was just something to get the girl out into the city. She was fully aware that the party didn't exist, and that her teacher had taken pity on her for the issues at home. ... But enough about home. She was sick of it.

She walked into the parlor, a metallic 'ding!' announced her presence. But now she slinked back to the wall, looking over the menu of flavors and options. What to get?

Someone must have entered the shop just before him, for Basil heard the tell-tale jingle of the bell and felt the sudden blast of cool air. Keeping a firm grasp in Molly's lead, Basil stretched out a hand, feeling nothing but open air for a moment until the door bumped his had lightly. Smiling at the accomplishment, he pushed it the rest of the way open to allow him and Molly through.

Sneakers squeaking against the slick linoleum floor, Basil listened to the gentle click of Molly's nails as he counted his steps. He knew that it was exactly six steps to counter and he concentrated on reaching that number.

Both him and Molly didn't seem to be paying attention, too distracted by the smell of sweet ice cream, and Basil was inadvertently pushed slightly by his retriever and into the soft body of a person.

Basil stumbled, but didn't fall as he reached out blindly to catch himself on the stranger's shoulder. "Please excuse me." Basil said in a cultured voice, immediately taking his hand away after he had righted himself. "Are you well?" Milky golden eyes turned in the relative direction of the person, blinking in concern.

Piaotte watched as he entered with the dog, glancing back to the flavor board. Ah, what to get? She was rather partial to cherry, but the daiquiri ice...

Her attention was divided as well, assuming the dog would do her job very well, and paid no mind until the hand was on her shoulder. She would have jumped out of her skin, except her skin wasn't very forgiving.

Startled, she nodded, then realized that Basil was blind, and glanced down shyly, scolding herself for not paying attention. "Oh, it's quite alright...." The girl shyly admitted, hoping he was fine. "I am fine..But are you okay? You're the one who almost toppled over." She tried to help the situation, but was hesitant to speak. She hadn't ever...really...been toppled into before.

Before she could notice it, there was a rather loud thump as the violin case fell to the ground, making her jump.
"Oh no..." She sighed, glancing to the case, which had split open.

The star twinkled a bit brighter in her purse, having felt the presence of another star. Now who could his new friend be?

"Oh, I'm alright." Basil replied delicately. "And I'm glad that you are the same." He smiled, taking a more firm hold on Molly's leash, knowing that she would try and lick at the stranger's shoes in greeting. Never before had he owned a dog who did such a thing.

He jumped as well when the case clacked against the ground. From the way the thing hit the floor, Basil thought it sounded like some kind of string instrument.

"A violin?" He asked politely, looking down at his feet to make it seem like he could actually "see" the object on the ground. "It's not dented or anything is it?" There was a hint of worry in his voice as he felt himself the cause for making the girl drop it in the first place.

Something jingled very quietly in Basil's pocket, sounding very much like a silver bell. He didn't catch the noise, but Molly did, tilting her head to the side in confusion. Had the piece of space junk made that noise?

Piaotte sighed in relief as she heard he was fine. "Me too..." Of course, then the issue of the poor instrument, that was already tortured badly from horrible playing.

She picked it up, setting it on a table as she bit her bottom lip. "T-The case is broken now....B-But it'll be okay!" She stuttered, worry flooding her. I hope.... She thought. It wasn't like she hadn't broken instruments before. Oh that poor piccolo! She hadn't meant to have dropped it and watch it shatter on the stage. Her teacher had been so upset...

The little star hummed back in greeting, having found another. So he wasn't alone here! Another wonderful soloist had graced this place!

"Is it?" Basil asked gently. He moved to where the violin had been set, reaching out a hand to run his fingers lightly over the hard case. "It just feels like the hinge cracked. It's an easy fix." He assured. "Is that correct, or is there more?" He couldn't been entirely sure, what with not being able to see.

"I know a guy a few blocks down who could fix it for you." The teen offered, ice cream forgotten for a moment as he pushed blond locks out of his face.

The jingle was louder this time. No words were spoken but the mutually feeling of friendship of evident. Molly wined again at the noise, laying down and hiding her face beneath her paw. What an annoying sound!

"W-well hopefully it'll be okay....I think it's the hinge." Piaotte looked it over, shivering suddenly. Was that....jingling? She checked her phone, but nothing. Surely that wasn't her.

"Oh really? That would be great...." She sighed in relief. Then, the sound again. Piaotte checked herself over again. Not her. "Uhm...Do you...hear that?" She awkwardly asked, wondering if it was just her. It was pretty quiet, but louder this time.

He jingled back happily, a bit louder than his newly found friend. Oh what a wonderful coincidence!

"Yes, of course, no big de--" Basil stopped and wrinkled his nose, sticking a finger in his ear and swirling it around as if to dislodge something. He heard the sound again however and blinked curiously.

"I was just about to ask you that, but yes, I hear it." And then his pocket started to shudder and vibrate, the jingling almost constant now. "What the devil?" He hissed, reaching into his pant pocket and pulling out the glass jar that held the space junk Forney had given him.

Said space junk was bouncing around like a mexican jumping bean and pulsing with a soft yellow light. Of course, Basil did see the light, only feeling the strange humming. He held the jar gingerly outward like it was a bomb

"Um..." The teen trailed off looking vexed.

Happy to be out of the pocket, the little star jingled happily and bounced up and down, almost like it was...waving.

She watched Basil curiously as she looked around for the source as well, thinking it was perhaps something coming from him until her purse started chiming in. Oh, the star...

Piaotte couldn't help but giggle a little bit as she watched him retrieve the star. "Oh so you have one too..." She laughed, taking her own bottle out. She had never really seen them move before, and it was proving to be an exciting experience. The violin was forgotten for the moment, replaced with joy and wonder.

Piaotte's star jumped as well, though eventually it took to hovering in the air, glowing happily. Friend, freedom, actual harmony~! Oh he was so pleased!

Basil looked confused. "You mean there's more?" His brows furrowed as he felt the jar buzzing beneath his finger tips. Without another thought, he shook the jar rather hard, sending the loud piece of space junk tumbling around.

Immediately the battered star began to squeak unhappily, blinking rapidly. "Here." Basil held the jar out to the girl. "I'll trade you. Yours seems more quiet." Was he serious?

The poor little star began to chime unhappily for a moment, giving one last jitter before stilling completely. He wasn't even glowing anymore. Basil had hurt his feelings.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 24, 2009 2:54 pm

Piaotte shrunk away as he shook it, feeling so bad for the little star. "You're going to hurt it!" She cried, holding her own jar close. As the little one faded, she teared up even more. "You hurt it......Poor little thing..."

She took the jar, opening it to hold the little star, hoping to soothe it.
"It's okay, little one.....You're safe now..."

Piaotte's star began to angrily buzz as Basil shook his kin around, and became even louder than the other had been. How dare his friend be abused by such a horrible thing! Why, if he had his way, he would ring INSIDE Basil's head all day long!

Basil frowned, growing distressed. It was just a stupid rock...wasn't it? From the way the girl seemed fret over the thing, it didn't seem the case. The teen frowned harder, grinding his teeth at the insane ringing.

"I'm sorry...I didn't know." He said quietly. "I thought it was just a piece of junk." Really now, this had been the first time the star had done anything. "Please, I won't do it again." He promised, indicated that he'd take the star back. He hadn't meant to hurt its feelings.

In the girl's hand, the star twinkled again, pulsing warmly, happy to have been comforted. It answered it's brethren with another little jingle, though the noise was quieter this time, trying not to disturb Basil.

Piaotte smiled quietly as the little star warmed up, sparkling once more. "You have to be careful with these little things." She gently took Basil's hand, letting the star roll the palm. "They're delicate, and so special."

She herself decided her own needed some time out of the glass prison, and opened it for the tiny glowing mass to jump out.

After deciding Basil was no longer a threat, the little star hopped out into Piaotte's palm, jingling back quietly in greeting to everyone there. And, with a quieter jingle, gave the best apology to Basil it could.

Basil nodded seriously, fingers splayed to accepted the little star into his palm. He drew back from Piaotte's hold, bringing the star to his chest. It thrummed happily, blinking like a Christmas light.

"But why are they so special?" The teen asked. "My stupid tenant gave me the thing in exchange for a room. What's so special about that?" He murmured tiredly, though he did smile slightly at the way the girl's own star jingled at him it seemed.

It almost seemed that the star gave a sigh itself and thrummed a little louder, wanting to comfort Basil. After that, the star's chiming became more happy when the other star started to bounce about. He wanted to bounce too!
