Ahhh.. he loved Earth Day.

It rolled around once every year, and the local coffee shop, deciding that its new brand identity would involve supporting All Things Green and Environmental had adhered to that clause, advocating for an entire week "free coffee on Earth Day" with their giant chalkboard banners.

Come Doomsday, the lineup spanning from the coffee shop could have rivaled a busy clothing store on boxing day, full with both students and adults trying to squeeze the shop of a dose of caffeine for the morning.

In fact, Toby almost never, unless it was school-related, got up this early in the morning for anything. While free coffee was of course a great incentive for anyone, the better reason would be a certain step-sibling adopting HIS room for the last evening, and an strange battle that had ensued from it. Needless to say, the morning found the poor teen groggy, half-asleep and pretty much matching the attitude of everyone else in the lineup who had not gotten their free stimulant injection.

About twenty minutes into the line, he was FINALLY at the cashier. The barista on till smiled, rather wearily, another poor worker behind her running back and forth trying to speed up her coffee brewing procedure. Toby put on his best 'I'm getting something free so I'll try to be nice' face. "Can I um, get the free coffee special for today?"

The cashier looked at him, face unreadable. "Would that be mild or dark roast sir?"

Uh... what?! He stared blankly at her, wondering if her expression would give away any signs, and when it did not, resorted to staring at the billboard, trying to get clues from the 'Coffee of the Week' sign. What the heck did 'Kenya' mean anyway?! When neither of them yielded any proper results, he finally tried the customer next to him, wondering if they had any clue on The Special Rituals of Coffee Ordering.

Naomi "Killingworth" had a problem. It was a rather large problem, though many might confuse it with a very small problem. Sidra would have been throwing "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" if she was there, but alas, she was not. All that was left of Sidra was tiny, a speck of dust, a mote of pure faith. She was gone but not quite-- really, just a soft shadow, not even a conscience useful to Nova. There were just moment's where Nova felt deja vu, especially when she had the chance to go about town.

Naomi Killingworth could not make a cup of coffee to save her life, and though she had expressed instructions never to leave the property without Tanzanite, Naomi was on the prowl. It seemed like such a trivial thing to do-- pour water in the place where it went, pour coffee grounds in, lather, rinse, repeat. But Naomi was CONSTANTLY getting it wrong, and to her this meant less "crap I'm bad at making coffee, oh well" and more "TISIPHONEY IS NOT MAKING BAD COFFEE". Which was a HUGE problem. For Nova, this meant that she lost brownie point's every time Killingworth threw the coffee at her, or sneered at it, or put out his cigarette in the liquid (one time it had lit on fire, to Nova's mortification). It meant she was FAILING THE NEGAVERSE, one cup of coffee at a time.

Well. No more.

She was going to taste a REAL cup of coffee, and was going to beat down this herd of people to do so.

Naomi started to make a commotion, cutting in line, and then smiling like only Naomi could do.

He was so busy trying to figure out the exact mechanics of Coffee Ordering (Did Mild mean that they put LESS coffee in than Dark, or was it the colour, or maybe it had do to with chocolate, like they put chocolate in..?!), that he almost missed the commotion behind him.

Or, he would have entirely, if the barista once attending to him with a rather bored look at her face hadn't suddenly diverted her attention, staring at something, or someone, behind him. One eyebrow raised, Toby wondered what exactly the fuss was about, and managed to catch a glimpse of the rather purposeful smile of a girl who didn't seem to give a damn that she just cut the entire lineup, disregarding the person who was currently trying to order - that would be him - as well.

As she stood there, his generically slow brain finally caught up to him. What the heck did she think she was doing!? He had waited a WHOLE twenty minutes for his coffee, and the people behind him, sans girl, seemed ready for murder. Trying to somehow get this point across, he cleared his throat rather nosily.

The barista glared at him, and then at the intruder. "Can you hurry up and order for you and your friend already?"

What the- she wasn't-! He managed to open his mouth, stare at both the angry masses of people in front and then behind her, before giving the barista a rather withering smile, siding up to this strange intruder of a girl. "So, friend," he emphasized, trying to make some sort of eye contact with her so she would at least know what a sin she had just committed, "What are you getting?"
