Ok, it's time for Ariath to rise once again. All brown and bronzes to the sky! XD

This flight will run a bit differently than the last one. Instead of everyone who wants to participate PMing me and telling me so just jump into the RP. Once I post Ariath going to blood then all those who wish to participate should get their dragons ready for the chase. Onlookers are free to post here as well, just try not to get so out of hand with posts that it's difficult to find posts that the particpants posted. wink But, knowing you die hard DRoP fans, I'll be searching. LOL

I will be posting all my posts in the ornate style frame. This will help people find posts more easily.

Note 1: The winner of the flight has been decided so those who jump in the RP please keep this in mind.

Note 2: This flight is timewarped to make it more convient for myself and others due to the holidays and school. I'd say it's about a month since the hatching took place. Since Ariath is the only egg layer she will rise often.

Ariath was content laying upon the grass that surrounded the waters edge as Ephia splashed in the tepid water to remove any excess oil from her hands and arms. Ariath had been quite placid and barely adjusted her position to make the oiling process easier. Several times Ephia found herself stretching as far as she could to reach an area. It was somewhat annoying and the only response she could get from the queen was that she itched in a certain spot or that she deserved a lie down.

Finally the chore of oiling the mighty gold beast was finished and Ephia could enjoy the rest of the day. The sun had already reached it's peak and was moving towards the horizon as the afternoon grew late. Finally clean of the excess oil Ephia gave her hands one good shake before rubbing her still quite wet hands on her pants.

Gathering up the empty jars of oil she clustered them all at the base of the boulder she had occupied earlier in the day before the visit from Farin and L'cian. The two had already departed to deal with whatever duties was required of them and Ephia was left to bask in the last few candlemarks of the days sunrays.

Climbing back onto the small boulder Ephia enjoyed the warmth that the rock had collected through the day as she gazed out across the tiny lake. The Weyrbowl wasn't too high with activity which the Weyrwoman was pleased about. It seemed everyone had dealt with whatver matters needed to be dealt with for the day. Stretching her arms above her head she sighed heavily but she wasn't given much a chance to relax more than that when an overpowering lustful emotion invaded her mind. Turning to look to her gold beauty Ephia was met with a glimpse of a tail as the queen took off.

"Shards!" Ephia gasped as she took off at a sprint across the Weyrbowl. The brassy call of Ariath filled the caverns. Thankfully her dragons destination wasn't far and Ephia was able to see her queen snatch up the first of many herdbeast.

Ariath climbed to a ledge, the dead herdbeast, killed upon impact, clutched in her claws. She lowered her wedge head to the beat to gorge upon its insides when the forceful comman from her rider broke through. She defied the command only twice before sinking her fangs into the unlucky creatures neck, draining it of it's precious life liquid.

Leaving the carcass behind Ariath dove upon another herdbeast but instead of rising to a ledge with it she pinned the creature to the ground before attacking it. She now knew, bloo would help her fly higher, faster and away from the bronze and browns that were so determined to catch her.

Ariath rises!

M'xan's head snapped up at the deep bellow from Enelth, who had been perched on the weyr ledge. The great bronze snaked his head back to look once at his rider, eyes whirling the red and purple of mating lust, before he launched himself down in to the Weyrbowl, wings spread wide and tail whipping behind him.

Go!

Pushing away the Wing report he had been writing, M'xan stumbled to his feet, feeling Enelth's fervor melting into his own mind as well. The Queen's weyr. That's where he needed to be. Pausing at the doorway to glance at the spot Enelth had dissappeared from, he managed to growl out, A warning next time, you silly beast!

Down below, Enelth only rumbled, folding his wings and lighting onto a fat herdbeast, who gave a brassy cry as the dragon overtook it. With the creature's back snapped, the bronze dragon clamped his jaws on it's throat and let the warm blood spill into his mouth, faceted eyes on the Queen. As soon as he had finished, he sprang upon another, dispatching it effortlessly and drinking from it's vulnerable neck. Jaws now slick with hot blood, he raised his head and issued a trumpeting challenge. He would win the Queen!

((Orana is a by stander ))
Orana had awoken early that morning to help Remia. After that she went and got some breakfast, though before she could even go out to help Remia she had to oil Malathan the little queen firelizard. Orana sighed as she finished the queen up and she called to Ithean to come to her. He came and she finished him as well... "I love you both." she smiled at them scratching each of their eye ridges before Orana arose after helping Remia a while latter and went to the dinning hall for some food. When finished she had gone outside to watch the dragons fly, she sat down outside and watched Ithean and Malathan had landed beside her and were sunbathing.

Orana had sat there for quite some time until she heard a trumpeting roar of a dragon. It was challenging the other dragons; Ariath must be ready to rise! She though scrambling to her feet, what a sight it would be to see the dragons in a mating flight, she arrived shortly after the first one so she missed it. Orana began to run to the feeding ground, she saw the gold blooding her kill and Enelth blooding his Damn she though. He had better not catch the queen especially for the insults he gave her at the festivities. She hoped the other dragons would arrive soon...

Malathan contently sunbathing looked up annoyed as Orana stood she offered complaint in the form of annoyed chirps, and watched Orana run. She hissed for a short moment and followed landing on a rock beside Orana once she had stopped.

Ithean snaked his head up lazily as he saw Orana get up. He scratched the stone he sat one and flew to follow Orana. Landing beside Malathan chirping excitedly.

((Chaeren is also a by stander 3nodding ))

Chaeren was in her room, which was absurdly warm due to the fire in the fireplace. Despite it being well into the warm months now, Chaeren still kept a fire going in order to keep her fire lizard eggs warm in their pots on the hearth. She didn't mind really, she didn't use the room much anyways, except at night.

The harper had only just finished rotating the pots when Ariath's bugle rang across the Weyr. The sudden noise after the relative quiet of the afternoon, made the girl just about jump out of her skin.

"What in the world?" The harper muttered to herself, sticking a burnt finger in her mouth after accidentally touching one of the warm pots without protection on her hands. Having turned the pots, the young woman stood and strode quickly to the door. She walked quickly down several hallways until she made it into the bowl and saw the magnificent queen dragon blooding her kills. She drew in her breath, marveling at the magnificent creatures beauty and bright glow.

Chaeren was surprised once more as a sudden down draft blew her hair and clothes about wildly, forcing the harper to put one hand to her head lest she loose her hat. She looked around for the source of the sudden wind, to see the first of the bronzes arrive on the scene and begin blooding his own kills.

"They're magnificent..." the harper breathed. She'd never been so close to a queen and bronze before. Greens and blues yes...but the queen was so much larger! Chaeren had never realized just how large.

((Hope it's okay to post her, since she isn't on the Candidates List in the thread. This is Lariel, a candidate....obviously, lol.))

Lariel took a deep breath and straightened her back from the stoop she had assumed for that past few minutes, then wiped her forehead with her dirty and dusty hands. Her sweat trickled down in small rows from her exertion and her breath came in long, ragged gasps. No matter how fit you were, chopping up firestone was a job that would leave you breathless. The young candidate stepped away from the pile of stones to take a short break, checking to make sure no one would notice her sudden departure.

With well placed footfalls Lariel made her way across the Weyr to the Kitchens, hoping to find the friend she knew who worked there that would be willing to slip her some extra food. She was a growing girl after all, and needed all her strength. The candidate snorted, that's what they told her anyway.

Lariel had been at the Weyr for a little while now, long enough to have stood on the Sands for the past clutch, only to realize she was not honored by a dragon hatchling and that she was not to then become a Rider. Her spirits crushed, she had thought that all hope was now lost...untill they told her she could try again. So she held her head high and made rude gestures to those that made fun of her and generally kept to herself. People only disapoint you, is what she had learned in her years alive. She hoped to one day gain the affections of a being that would always be there for her, would truly understand her.

She was nearing the Kitches when she heard the low bellow of the Gold dragon, Ariath was her name, and came to a sudden halt. With excitement thrilling threw her fast rushing veins, she turned on her heel and made her way to where all the excitement would be. "Shards!" she cursed as she ran into a woman, and didn't take the time to appologize as she continued to run.

Finally, the dragons were in view. There were a few suitors in the area now as well, all hoping to be the one to catch the ever so elusive Queen dragon. Lariel leaned her arm on a nearby short wall and propped her head upon her hand. At that moment she knew she would try over and over, for as long as it took, to gain the affections of such a creature.

Farin rested her head back with a sigh, feeling the water rise up from the bottom of the tub and over her cheeks. She crossed her arms behind her head with a small smile fleeting across her face, stretching backward in a delicate curl. Now this was nice. Never before had the greenrider had her own bath; normally, she'd taken her baths in a small wash barrel, or the communal bathroom in which both male and female riders were expected to use and regiment usage. But the with a new weyr just above the Weyrling barracks to call her own- she actually had her own bathroom. And it was no bathroom to snub at either! It was bigger then her room when she lived in the holds, and the tub was large enough for her to even paddle in. The water which circulated was warm, and slightly frothed at the top.

The only thing she'd miss was Moth, who now had her own room adjacent to her own. Since the weyr no longer needed to be formulated for both rider and dragon ventilation, there was a large opening and the green could sun herself most comfortable without worrying about bothering her rider. Although they missed the close quarters (And Farin still on occasion slept on Moth's couch), both of them found this new dose of luxury to be a bit overwhelming. It was more then payment for having to deal with a bunch of children.

She sunk her head below the water, and peered up at the stone roof from below. There was a glow basket in the corner, and it obstructed the view just inches from the moving water. She'd need to go down in an hour to make sure the Weyrlings were in bed, and their dragons undistracted...

She rises! Came a sudden soft voice from bellow the water. Farin blinked and surfaced with a gasp.

"What?!" She coughed, her blonde hair plastering against her face.

The queen rises- and the bronzes will not let her go this time! Moth said with a certain amount of concern, and Farin felt the green depart from the Weyr to get a better view of the event.

Farin sputtered, and rubbed her eye. She'd just seen Ephia and L'cian this morning- both had looked fine...in fact, now that she realized it, Ariath had looked more then fine. This would be problems. It was no secret in the Weyr that M'xan, and all the other bronzes had had their pride severely docked by Tallith's win last time. If they were not carefully, they could end up with some very awkward situations.

She rose out of the tub, and stumbled out. Sensing their owner's concern, Fleckin and Vera appeared on top of the soap rack with a diluted peep. The woman grabbed her towel and quickly wrapped it around her naked from, and dashed from the room. Clothing was hard to find in such a rush, so she found a white shirt and leather pants to quickly throw on, her hair wet mess as she dashed about. Before leaving, she got her jacket, and threw it over her shoulders. The knot upon the sleeves banged as she moved, quickly running to the edge of the weyr and looking out.

Instinctively, her eyes found Moth first, glinding across the bowl. 'You'd better get out of there, or you'll anger Ariath.' Farin cautioned her green.

She knows I do not wish her males. Moth rumbled, and implied that she had been moving towards some of the non flying dragons. She landed with a thump in the middle of the cluster, quickly taking the ledge and leaning down to watch Ariath. As the other dragons rumbled, and the bronzes and browns prowled wildly, she added in her own low resound- 'fly well! Fly better then the males!'

Farin stood on the ledge, feeling cold as she watched the dragons fly down and Ariath roar, her blood soaked face glistening. The roar trembled her body, and she was recalled to some sort of purpose. She had to make sure the Weyrlings would not, in any part, be involved in this mating flight. The flight of the queen could create such uncontrollable urges- No, she'd not have any traumatized dragonets.

-----

Ch'tan had been resting silently in his bunk, thinking about Femina, an old girlfriend. He wasn't particularly sure why he was thinking about her at this moment, but he couldn't help but remember how beautiful she had been when-

Mine, something strange is happening. Weith rumbled from the communal weyr the dragons stayed in.

'Eh lad? What?'

I don't know. All the dragons are screaming. Shall I scream too? They say the bronzes will win. Shall I win them? I am bronze.

"Whoa, wait a second. What are we winning?" Ch'tan said aloud, and rose from his bed and moved to the hallway. As he moved, a hand sharply cuffed him on the back of the head.

"You'll not be catching anything." Farin snapped sharply as she moved, and accompanied by Fleckin who added his own bristling chatter. She quickly grabbed Ch'tan by the pony tail, and directed him back to his room.

"What the hell woman?" Ch'tan turned to attempt to slap the older woman off, but luckily for Farin, he cared more about his hair then he did the direction Farin was forcing him. He stumbled into the room as Farin let go, and she returned with a stomp to the hallway.

"Weyrlings-!" She called, adjusting her jacket. Her wet hair felt like ice upon her dark brown cheeks. "You may be inclined to leave your barracks. I'd suggest you do not." She called hoarsely, and did a quick sweep of the rooms to make sure it was one rider per room.

'Moth, I'll need you here'. Farin spoke.

Of course. Moth rumbled, and dropped down from her ledge, soared across the very outskirts of the rocks, and landed on the ledge just below her Weyr. The large dragon carefully moved around where the dragonets slept, and settled herself down at the opening. She turned her head outward, and watched the flight from below, bellowing slowly.

With the dragonets contained, Farin continued her sweep.

What a flight, and it handnt even begun!

The Weyrling barracks are now under lock down. XD You may view the flight from carved windows in some of the barracks. If anyone is not in their barracks- they'd better haul a**. >O

Ch'dri awoke, stretching, when he heard the sound. There was no mistaking what it could be, ever, having heard the cry just enough before from his old home.

Oh damn...

Ariath is rising, and I shall respond, Kenthoth almost hissed in hsi rider's mind before taking wing to glide down.

Ch'dri growled under his breath, knowing full well the ramifications and took into a run to get where he needed. His legs carried him quickly, and even with new territory, quickly figured which way was right as he saw Kenthoth swooping down on a beast.

Blood was precious and none was wasted, that which attempted to run down his maw was licked up as his eyes whirled, eying both queen and competition. There would be no room for error here; the Queen would rise, and so would many.

He lashed out at a second beast, catching it and snapping it dead with a twist before drinking, aware of the imminency of the rise.

Do well, my dragon, Ch'dri sent, feeling the emotional feedback from Kenthoth. Although he would not consider himself perfect for it, he would not deny such wishes upon one filled with instinct.

~*~

((Tellera is watching, arriving to the Weyr.))

She had arrived, finally, and none too soon as she heard the trupeted cry. It scared her only a moment, before she saw the play of golden light from the queen. Her golden hair was tied back carefull as her green-grey eyes went skyward. "Wow..." The journeyman healer had enver been to a Weyr proper, having only been witness to the occasional dragon - including ehr brothers once or twice.

She was still unsure why she ahd been sent to Rias weyr, and sighed under her breath slightly. What had she done to deserve being sent here? She ahd been told she would be notified upon arrival, and nothing more, other then to go. She would obey, of course, but not without some sullneness. She had liked her old assignment, and this put her even more away from everyone she held dearly.

She looked again, to the sky and saw it - a bronze she could never forget. "Ch'dri?" she managed, her mouth slightly agape at the sight of Kenthoth. It was impossible, wasn't it? He'd been at Fort, she had known when she went to a Gather - but she knew Kenthoth even in the few times she'd seen him. There was no mistaking the bronze, even if he was on the smaller side.

"Miss Tellera, I have something-" a taller man started, and halted at the sight of the dragons. He ahd come from the Healer's quarters, and smiled slightly. "So, the queen rises, then."

"Queen rising..." Tellera pushed the hair from her eyes that was loose, taking the proffered note carefully. "I think someone I know is here..." Her eyes were torn form the dragons, to read. As she took in the words she felt something in her chest. Something which bothered her, and yet sent her joy. "I- they- why didn't they- ..." She read more, biting her lip.

"Of course I'd rather serve my healing post, but if... if I should stand on the sands...."

He tore himself from the sight as well, resting a hand on her shoulder. "They expected you would resist the transfer if told, knowing your dedication ot the craft, but it seems a rider was very insistent you be sent also for being a Candidate. Arrangements are made that you will serve your Healer duties, and when a clutch should come, do as needed for that."

Tellera blinked, looking again at the dragons. She was confused, partly. Maybe if it was true her brother was here, then... maybe he would know. Maybe she could use him to get out fo standing. She wasn't sure she was even capable of taking care of a dragon - so much different then people.

She'd have to investigate later. For now, she needed to be aquainted with her new home, after this flight. She'd never been witness, and was compelled to watch, as she saw others as well taking a place to watch. From Ch'dri's own words this was a momentous occasion indeed.

L'mur lay in his bed, on the very edge of sleep, allowing himself to relax after the day's lessons and chores. The now-expected low hum of dragons' conversations filled his mind and he drowsily extended a "Good night" in the direction of his green. Saranth herself was stretched out on the ledge with the other hatchlings, L'mur's pair of fire lizards curled up by her haunches.

Suddenly, L'mur sat up, clutching at his ears. The ambient mental tone had changed significantly, taking on overtones that were distinctly... familiar. Oh no. He struggled out of bed just as Farin shoved Ch'tan back into the room.

What is wrong? The big green says we are not to move. Why would I move? I am comfortable here with the tiny ones. Saranth's voice in his head was confused and slightly worried, but not particularly perturbed.

Ariath rises! L'mur threw back. I.. I can hear them all..., he whispered mentally. His hands still over his ears, despite the voices/thoughts/feeling/senses not being so easily blocked out, he looked almost pleadingly at the Weyrlingmaster.

Oh. This is bad? You do not wish to hear? L'mur could sense the little green stretching and he smiled inspite of himself.

I'll be fine... It is good that she rises. A Flight means a Hatching, and that is always good. Thinking of it so pragmatically seemed to help, and L'mur slowly calmed down.

Yes, Saranth replied shortly, and yawned. I will watch this good thing then. It is interesting.

Wonderful. Not too interesting, L'mur thought as privately as he knew how. During that quick exchange, Grenna and Brownie had awoken, very much pleased with the goings-on, and dived off the ledge to join the other fire-lizards hovering near enough to watch the flight without angering the participants.

N'tren sat up and was peering out the window of the weyr barracks. He heard Ariath's roar of challenge and the call did not go unanswered. The very air itself was charged with the anticpation of this flight. A drop of sweat dribbled down his brow as his eyes widened.

Why must the bronzes win? Should I be out there winning too?

Turning around, N'tren could see that he was not the only weyrling affected by the outside affairs. Weyrlings and dragonets popped up out of the beds and off of the floor. He had the strange feeling that it was good that the girls were housed separate from the boys.

"It is nothing, Dattie. We do not need to worry about winning anything just yet."

If you say so but everyone is so upset outside. I am glad I am not there.

"Trust me, I am glad you are not there also."

The brown dragon reared up, eyes whirling with an ever increasing glow of purple, the facets swirled together in a dizzying pattern so fast that L'cian was alerted instantly to his dragon's emotions. The beast had returned to his ledge after the meeting with Ephia and Farin whilst he himself had gone to inspect the wings.

The emotions swelled, the power of the lust rising within both dragon and rider and L'cian instantly knew what was going on. The brown informed him anyway and the panic rose within his chest.

The flight, they couldn't be late.

He had a promise to keep.

Tallie where are you? L'cian spoke as he ran from the room after being excused quickly from the other riders. They all understood the importance of this, and why the brownrider was so nervous.

I feast! His dragon hissed hungrily and L'cian could almost imagine the blood dribbling from the beast's great mouth, running in streams down his neck as he suckled at a herdbeast's throat.

The rider knew where he had to go, he had been there many times before, but this time the effort was becoming increasingly difficult. He had no choice though, they HAD to make it.

Tallith! He yelled in his mind as he swerved around another corner, fly strong, fly wise, fly as you've never flown before. If they won? Then he'd accept another year of being Weyrleader, he'd continue to do so until Ephia and Ariath chose their bronze rider. He would be there to protect them from others - no names mentioned.

---

By the time the brown finished with the herdbeast he knew there would not be much time left before-- ah and there she was! At the sight of Ariath diving down to feed the other bronzes and browns left in the bowl drew back, fearful of her wrath. Tallith didn't fear, he simply loved and lusted after her, he would catch her in his claws, let their wings work as one as they twined mid-air in a spectacle the other dragons would be forced only to watch.

He rose up to land upon the ledge, turning his head this way and that before setting eyes upon his foes. One imparticular - Enelth. So the beast meant to try and win over him?! He raised his head, red whirling with purple as he screamed his rage, tail lashing and wings extending.

That old bronze had a fight on his wings.

Remia had been snatching a few precious moments for her embroidery at the end of the day, reclining on her bed with the furs bunched up behind her. Trith was nearby watching intently, tail twitching lightly at the tip.

The Queen's roar pierced through her concentration; Remia paused in her stitches. Trith raised her head and stared intently towards the window.

Everyone is making a fuss. What is going on, mine?

Remia looked towards the window, fabric in one hand, the other caressing her dragonet's head as she got up for a better look outside. She'd heard a roar like that once...

...at the last rising. She'd barely been here long before the last time, and she'd stayed out of everyone's way, a little scared of what the emotions of the dragons was doing to the atmosphere in the Weyr.

"Something important, Trith, love, but nothing we need to be worrying about yet," she answered. She was watching out the window intently, and jumped about a mile high when the Weyrlingmaster burst into the barracks to inform everyone of what they probably already knew. Ariath was rising, and the bronzes and browns were blooding.

Stay in the barracks? Where else would I go? We'll stay here, she thought, and set down her embroidery to pull a chair closer to the window.

What are we doing? Trith followed, and lay her head in her partner's lap.

"We're watching, sweet. We can learn something, maybe." Remia kept an eye out the window, watching the bowl, and the blooding, and kept to herself. She should know what was going on, what would probably happen in the future.

Learning is good. We will stay here and learn, Trith agreed, with a small rumble.

J'riar had been snoozing lazily within his bed, one arm covering his thin face now that his entire lanky figure had sprawled out. Natroth had gone off to be with the other hatchlings, seeing as the rest of them were up on a ledge. And the little blue had already decided that he didn't like being left out of anything. The brunette, however, was also included in this.

Mine, something is going on. You need to wake up so you do not miss it.

With a low groan, J'riar rolled out of men, blinking blearily just as Farin had shoved another Weyrling back inside. "Wha...? What's going on...?" This was all so knew to him, but, quickly locating Natroth, he saw that the dragonet's eyes were whirling in utmost excitement.

We are supposed to stay here. The blue crooned in reassurance as his rider rose, looking about.

"What...what's happening?" J'riar let the question be free for any to answer, not understanding just what was going on.

I will watch. I will tell you. Natroth shook his head slightly, letting out a soft snort. Everyone is excited.

"Who? Who's excited? And why?" This wasn't working. Natroth wasn't going to give him a straight answer, so J'riar turned to the other's in the room for help.

(Just a note to all the riders participating, Ephia is in the Weyrbowl seeing as she had been bathing and oiling Ariath before the flight took place. She had no time to run to her Weyr. wink )

Ephia watched as dived upon another beast, crushing it in her claws as she impacted the ground with it. Fangs dripped of blood as they sank into the warm flesh, sucking out it's essence. The Weyrwoman was finding the controling the queen was somewhat easier now that Ariath knew what her duty was. Fly high, strong and fast.

Facet eyes swirled a heavy indigo as she lifted her wedge shaped head from her fifth kill. She snapped out at one of the males whom had gotten a bit to close for her liking before turning her gaze skyward and leaping into the air, pinions spread wide as wings pushed her up into heavens tainted gold by the dieing sun. She did not look backe for she knew that the males would be in hot pursuit of her, lusting for her as their own. Instead, she shifted her direction and found a thermal, though weak, that helped the mighty beast to gain altitude.

Ephia was given little warning than that of the spread wings of her queen before her mind was swept away and she became one with her lifemate. All thoughts, wants, and needs were shared as the flight began. The rays of the sun danced across her hide, caressing her form and adding more luster to the glow she had aquired through blooding.

The Weyrwoman and queen both knew that two of the dragons in pursuit held strong desires to win this flight, to make the golden beast their prize, but Ariath would make them work for her. It all came down to whomever was the best, and whom caught the queens interest. Then again, emotional ties held something within the tie that Ephia and Ariath shared, and something deep inside one of them was hoping for the same victor during the last flight.
