A common trouble area for many players (especially those who are newer to the game) is how to handle recipes... Now, I'm not talking about how to make Aunt Gertrude's world-famous meatloaf. I'm referring to how to find ZOMG recipes and what to do with them.

Please find some basic Q&A that I've compiled below. Hopefully, these will answer some of the basic problems that seem to be plaguing people. And, as always, please feel free to add any additional questions that you might still have about how recipes work...

What exactly is a recipe in ZOMG?

While playing ZOMG, you occasionally earn recipes as items (either from defeating monsters or rewards for completing certain quests). These items appear as sheets of paper, which have instructions on what you need to collect to craft a particular object.

What am I supposed to do with a recipe now that I found it?

To use a recipe, you need to go to Back Alley Bargains (under shops). There is an option for making recipes under Nicolae's image. As long as you have the recipe and the required ingredients, you should be able to craft the specified item (i.e., exchange loot and gold to create the recipe item).

Why am I unable to use my recipe to create the item?

Unless you’re experiencing a particular glitch, the most likely reason that you cannot craft the item is because you’re missing part of the recipe. All recipes require particular pieces of loot and a certain a mount of gold to create the item. If you are missing something, then the recipe will be listed as incomplete. Otherwise, you should be able to select the exchange function to create the item.

For example, the pinwheel recipe requires the following:
arrow Plastic x3
arrow Branch x1
arrow Pinwheel Fin x1
arrow Gold x833

If you have all of the pieces and the gold, then the pinwheel can be created. If you are missing something (such as not having enough plastic) or lacking gold, then the item cannot be created until you collect enough.

Where can I find the ingredients for my recipe?

Loot is obtained by battling monsters, opening chests/boxes, and completing certain quests. Loot tends to be randomly dropped, although certain items tend to be awarded by certain monsters or in certain areas (e.g., lawn gnomes tend to drop screws).

What’s the deal with null fragments?

Unless there is a glitch or another change in programming, monsters (and quests) should no longer provide null fragments as rewards. When zOMG was first released, the null fragments were part of creating recipes. At some point, they were removed from the process.

Some players might still have some from the earlier days, but I don't believe that the fragments have any real use or value at this point...

Why did they remove null fragments from ZOMG?

My speculation is that some people were getting a little frustrated with dealing with the null fragments. Since you only earned the fragments when you finished quests/subquests, the number of recipes that you could use was fairly limited. If a recipe required 100 null fragments and you only had 101 fragments, then you wouldn't be able to create anything else until you earned more null fragments for those other recipes.

The removal of the null fragments made it easier to create items from recipes since you’re now only limited by gold and ingredients (which are far more commonplace).

Hey Xaos, great way of explaining that!
If you don't mind, could I copy and paste your explanation about the recipes and put that in my Clan?
:3
I'll give you credit of course. <3

Thanks! And you are always more than welcome to copy and paste anything that I submit around here in your clan. All that I ask is that you make sure to give me the proper credit for anything that you wish to repost.

You heard correctly. If you go to your inventory, you can access all of your recipes by selecting the zOMG! tab. When you click on any unused recipe, you are given a brief description and choices to gift or sell it. Choose the sell item option, and you will be paid 50 gold for each recipe you sell.
