Nimue opened her eyes partly, still leaden with sleep. Through her eye lashes she took in the hazy outline of her mother who had been the cause of her stirring, she was rising and looking over her little family. Nimue knew her mother left the den and pack’s territory for a few days at a time, just ‘to be free’ she said. Her father had tried to explain it to herself and Nereus that their mother like space and not to be tied down to one place, though she’d always return as this was where her heart was now. Nimue was curious though, as most pups were, as to what her mother did when she went away and as to where she went.

She opened her eyes fully, though she had to force them, and lift herself from where she lay. She turned, rather wobbly, to look down at where she had lain before, the spot next to her fathers belly looked so welcoming but she sucked in a lung full of air and pushed the invitation from her head and stretched herself out, yawning. Then turning back to face the den’s entrance she saw the flick of her mothers tail as she left the den.

Nimue pattered to the den’s mouth and stared out, her mother was already setting a quick pace, seeming desperate to get away. Curiosity levels within Nimue rose and she charged out of the den and after her mother. She really had to push herself to keep with the adult wolf; Tae was fit and lean, even though slighter old than Nimue’s father, Butterfinger. She could not call out to her mother, for she knew Tae would only turn about and deliver her back to her father, she’d have to try and keep her within sight until out of the pack’s territory.

Because of Tae’s desire for freedom and Butterfingers love of water and adoration of Tae, the pair had built their den close to the river that ran through the pack’s territory but also close to the boarders so Tae could break away easily and whenever she desired. This would help Nimue, as she wouldn’t have to keep such a hard pace for as long as if the mated pair had built their den more central. So it wasn’t long before the broke the boundary lines but Nimue was a stubborn and determined girl, even at this young age, so she pushed herself even more, wanted to get far enough that her mother had no choose but let her accompany her this once.

It was too much however and as the undergrowth thickened slightly and she had to slow to contend with it, she lost sight of her mother. She stopped and stood there surrounded by a dense layer of brown bracken and it hit her, she was now out of the safety of her home and lost. She howled calling in vain for her mother, though no reply came. She sat herself down and panted, the pace she had set in an attempt to keep up with her mother had tired her and she now had to apply a little logic. First she needed a minutes rest and then dejectedly she’d head back to her father before he found out what she’d done and be told off for her actions.

Nimue hadn't been the only pup to wander from her home that morning. Peregrine, son of Raven-Blue and Kriggartarpok, self-assured to the point of stupidity (as many pups seemed to be at his age), had also wandered from his home without an older escort of any kind. Unlike Nimue, however, Pippin had the benefit of knowing the area fairly well since it was part of the territory he had been raised to know as "home." He scampered over a grouping of stones, paws digging in has he overcame the mound and stood, triumphantly, on top of it. He beamed proudly, though no one was there to see him, and wagged his tail calmly. It was shaping up to be a good day.

A whining howl broke that calm and his tail stopped immediately, his ears perking forward as he looked in the direction the cry came from. It came again and the concern that had flashed into his face blended with determination as he scrambled down the other side of the tiny mountain and headed in the direction of the help-call. It fell silent after a moment, but Peregrine pushed on, never one to be swayed by a little difficulty. Even this young he was the pup more prone to standing up for his sister if the other one was picking on her.

As he hit a bad patch of undergrowth he stopped mid-trot and tilted his head back, letting out a howl of his own, albeit a less frantic howl than the one he had heard. If the pup in trouble was still around, he would need another call to know how close they were, and what approximate direction they were in.

Nimue stared at the wall of bracken which surrounded her and she puzzled at how she could have come into the brior so deeply in the first place but logic implied if she got in, she must be able to get out. Though tired from the spirit she admit she needed a moments rest first, before pushing herself back the way she had came, whichever that was she had now forgotten however. Sitting down in the little space she had stamped out for herself she let out a little huff, slightly angered by the whole mis fortunate situation.

Moments later a howl came to her and her ears pricked up to collect it. The voice wasn't her mothers and neither was it one she recognised but thankfully it also wasn't very mature, the other must be about her age if not older. Upon that know she did not fear in answering it, the other must of heard hers a while ago now after all. She stood and lifted her nose to the sky and let out a replying howl, 'I am here' it sounded. She lowered her head and stared at the bracken in front of her intrigued now as to what would come and find her.

Yep, there it was. Peregrine muscled his way through the brush, chewing through a thin vine that was in his way rather than trying to get around it. It was hard to move, let alone see in this mess. If someone was in all of this, they were probably lost in it. A bright patch of color peeped through a few of the holes in the bracken, and Peregrine changed his course to make a more direct route there. Now he just had to hope he didn't get lost as well.

"Hello," he said as he pushed some of the plants in front of him out of the way. He wiggled his body only halfway past the stuff, though, in an attempt not to get too much in the other pup's space. She looked as if she were probably his age, if not a little older, but that didn't matter. She was the one in trouble and he could get her out of it. "Are you lost?"

The question seemed a bit obvious, but that was always the best place to start. He would find out if that was the only problem and, if it was, lead her out and help her find her way home. He could do that.
