Supposing you were a member of the Dr. Who production team, what sort of companion would you like to add to the show?
For a change of pace, I'd like to see a Dr. Watson-esque type of character (of Sherlock Holmes fame) to play off the Doctor.
Or an old granny that would constantly chide the new Doc. Sort of like Hartnell Doctor and his companions in reverse.

a robot that can think, who is an ex-convict, and helps the doctor with hardcore violence.

Kamelion was a shape-shifting android which was discovered by the Master on Xeriphas. The Master used Kamelion to impersonate King John, in a plan to prevent the Magna Carta from being signed. Controlled by telekinetic power, the Doctor gained control of Kamelion during a battle of wills with the Master.
Capable of independent thought, Kamelion asked to join the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough, and was welcomed aboard. Although Kamelion travelled with the Doctor for some time, the android rarely appeared. Kamelion eventually came under the influence of the Master again, and was destroyed by the Doctor.

Someone who isn't afraid to tell the Doctor to shut the hell up and to put him back in his place when he gets all "Time Lords are so much better than humans".

I don't know why, but I'd really like it if the companion was rather clumsy. Just tripping on their way out of the TARDIS, accidently dropping things, etc....

I'd like to make a companion like Donna. Someone who's older and doesn't find the Doctor attractive. And like Donna someone who brings comedy to the show and who can argue against the Doctor saying that he's in charge and the companion has to follow his orders.

Or an android like Data (Star Trek) who gets on the Doctor's nerves because he does not get the Doctor's jokes...

That sounds too much like Donna. whee
The companion has to be competent enough for crazy traveling and at least accepting the abnormal or the Doctor won't consider them... remember how he told Martha's co-worker to 'stay there'?
It'd be nice to see a guy travel with the Doctor -- but the new kid is young enough already.. sweatdrop
