It had started off as a nice enough day. They'd chased down a some rather large prey and dragged a good chunk of it home. Chane had eaten the lion's share, his appetite after all had grown a fair bit since his arrival. Despite the great start to the day his stomach had slowly turned sour. Now he almost felt in pain as he wandered through the grass. There had been some herb or another that the humans had fed him whenever his stomach had felt this way. It was a root of some sort, of that much he was certain. The exact sort of root he wasn't so sure about. Thankfully, they'd given it to him whole so he knew what it looked like, as well as what it smelt like and tasted like. He was fairly sure that he would be able to identify it... if he could find it.

Ylva had feasted and left the pups with Asa for the afternoon. She loved the pups but the hyena needed to get away from mother hood every once in a while.
And that didn't explain why she was trailing after Chane. Granted, over the time he had spent with the hyena family Chane had matured alot. Ylva still saw him as a child in some ways though and felt a little protective of the human raised lion. She loved him and would make sure he was alright.
A wrong step gave away her location in the tall grass as she stepped on a loud snail shell. The hyena's eyes widened and she froze. Crap.

Chane had found a plant that smelled tantalizingly familiar. Whether or not it was the plant that yielded the healing root or not he wasn't sure, but that didn't stop him from digging it up for further inspection.
It looked similar. The smell wasn't quite right but he shrugged that off. It could be for any one of thousands of reasons. Tentatively he took the root in his mouth and chewed.
When Ylva stepped on the snail he sat up straight, looking for the source of the noise. If she had been a serious predator he would have been dead by now.

Ylva sighed and walked out into the open.
"Its just me no need to be alarmed." She gave him a small smile and took a few paw steps closer. She wasn't sure why he was all the way out here or what he was up to.
"Everything.. alright Chane?"

Chane relaxed visibly at the sound of Ylva's voice.
"Don't sneak up on me like that! I thought you were a lion!" a sigh then he added, "I'm fine, just have a sour stomach that's all."
He looked down at the root he'd dropped and frowned, "Trying to figure out how they used to cure it..."

Ylva stared down at the root. She had come from humans too and knew they were always mixing things to cure aches and what not. Though the hyena her self never really took an interest in it.
"I .. really don't know. I remember humans smashing things ... but I don't know how they made the aches go away," The hyena sniffed at the root.

"Mine used a root of some sort. I don't think this is the right one," he wrinkled his nose. It's sour. The one they used was sweet... and they always soaked it in milk."
He missed that milk more then anything.
He looked back down at the root and sighed. "I'll figure it out. Ylva? Why were you following me?"

Ylva lifted a brow," I'm not following you Chane. You just happened to be in the same area I was ." It was a lie but she told as if it as if it had been the truth. With her monotoned vocals, it was often hard to tell what Ylva was feeling.
"Milk..." The dog made a face. She had never cared for the milk. "Maybe they put something sweet with it... I never tasted a root that wasn't sour." Granted the hyena didn't often go looking for roots to eat.
She took a seat and eyed the root, "Did they soak it in milk so it wouldnt be so sour?"

He wrinkled his nose, "Maybe. There was an old man who kept bees nearby." He'd never cared for the bees. They'd come and bother him on the hottest days. It was only when the rain came that they'd all go into hiding.
He thought about the mention of milk making it sweet then shook his head, "I just don't think it's the right root."

It was Ylvas turn to wiggle her nose. Not the right root? She didn't know squat about these type of things and settled for just watching Chane.
"Where would you think the right root would be?" The female tilted her head.

"Well..." he licked his lips casually. "It was usually crisp and wet and..."
He looked about as if expecting to find a clue hiding among the grasses.
"... fresh tasting? So maybe near water? Not watering holes. Those dry up during the hot times. Is there a big river nearby?"

The hyena nodded. She had found her mate nearly half drowned in it way before Chane and the puppies had come about. Funny how she seemed to find others. That was a thought for another time though.
"Yeah there is, follow me and I'll take you to it. " The female didnt wait up , she just turned her back and started off into the grass.

Chane was used to this sort of thing though. He followed Ylva, running at first to make up the distance and then walking quickly behind her.
"Is it far?" he asked, glancing around. If he did find the right root there he'd want to be able to find his way back again later.

Ylva smiled on the inside even if her perma frown was miss leading. Her eyes sparkled, she cared for Chane like he was family.
"Listen and the river will tell you when we are close," She continued on. They were starting to get closer.

Chane's ears perked, and swivelled, trying to pick up the tell-a-tale sounds of running water. When he didn't hear it right away he gave Ylva a confused glance. When she didn't respond he lifted his head again. Maybe they weren't close enough yet.
"Is it here all year?"
