Of course, if Eiry were in his right state of mind, he wouldn't be on top of the Delaran household, skating around on the rooftop like a madman who's figured out to skate with ice blocks. No, he would be curled up in his bedroom at this hour, reading himself a ritual bedtime story, some horrific tale of a ghost and the people it haunts, or sneaking underneath Rivener's wing when it was decidedly too cold in his bedroom to sleep alone. Unfortunately, this night, things were different.

Wispy hair wild and red red eyes rolling wildly in his head, Eiry, thoroughly riddled with virus infection, crowed madly at Rivener, hooting and hollering with the glee of an escaped psycho ward patient. His hands were crawling with ethereal flame that licked its way up his arms, and his wings spluttered madly behind him, seeming to drip with blood. The glose of his rune, an unnatural orange, threw its light into the sky, like a neon glowstick in a sick morbid dance, he flitted against the settling darkness.

Dodging the object of his invariable hatred, Eiry threw his arm out close enough to skin the fire across the body of his brother and then he skipped again into the wood of the roof, throwing himself out of the danger zone as quickly as possible. His mind was focused on evading every slice from the red one's sharp wings. He could not let himself get stung again, not so soon! He had to wreak his revenge upon Rivener first.

"LIES!" Eiry shrieked, shaking the hair from his eyes, "THOSE WORDS YOU SPOKE TO me once upon a time are all lies, you FOUL WRETCHED SOUL you LIED TO ME. Bestowed upon the one you called brother, the sting of ire! YOU ARE NO BROTHER OF MINE! BEAST! HEATHEN! DEMON, YOU ARE, BUT NO LONGER MY BROTHER."

Rivener had quickly figured out that the best way to avoid these sneak attacks, the best way to have a chance at striking back, was to move himself far from the surface of the roof. Eiry hid safely under the shingles most of the time, and when he'd pop out Rivener would have a thin opportunity. It had been a whole three days already; from last evening, all through the night and over the course of the entire bright day until evening came again. Riv couldn't even remember why they fought. He only knew he wasn't about to let his "brother" win this. Rivener was the Alpha Male around here! He wasn't going to stand for this!

The Ghost Sigel zoomed out at him and the punch Eiry threw with fingers curled out like claws missed Rivener by a hair's breadth, the cold, eerie flames barely felt against the scorpion's skin. Rivener hurried to twist himself and send a sting at his brother, but Eiry had already moved away, the stinger stabbing at nothing.

As much as Rivener ignored most of his sibling's nonsensical prattling, he realized that this new string of words was actually rather coherent. No poetry this time, no recitations. Only Eiry speaking his mind, and Rivener sneered haughtily at what he heard. "I don't know which words you're talking about, but I have to agree: You are NOT my Brother either. You are a GHOST! A SPIRIT HAUNTING ME, and I'm going to exorcise you just like we did Fletcher! You're NOT A REAL PERSON. Now stop moving around so much and just accept your fate like a good boy!"

With a roar, Rivener snapped his wings and lifted himself an extra foot above the roof, giving himself that much more time to react when Eiry would come for him again.

Eiry hissed, snarling as his attack narrowly missed the red raevan. He swept back down into the roof top, but, as might've been suspected by a coherent sigel, Rivener soared up a bit more, a few feet farther from Eiry's sanctuary in the roof. The wild gears in Eiry's mind switched, grinding into one another with painful vocabulary and complaints. Blast! The red one moved out of the way, moving away from his realm of easy reach! For the time being, he had thanked the spirits that the other wasn't clever enough to realize his disadvantage in staying so close to the roof. He was actually quite surprised that for an entire length of three days, the other didn't realize his folly. Eiry cured his foul luck and forced his way into thinking about other plans and methods of attack, but each thought was more tired than the last. Earlier on in different stages of the days when he grew weary, exhausting his strength and energy, Eiry simply fed from the near by dead foliage and threw himself back into battle with renewed vigor. Now, however, there wasn't much more to feed on without fleeing into the marshes. The trees around the Delaran house were vibrant and green.

In fact, amid desperate plots to destroy his brother, Eiry, for a moment completely forgot why he was fighting Rivener in the first place. He breathed heavily, the blood flecks on his neck and jaw flexing with every breath. Why? Why was he...

Then Rivener spoke, and Eiry's small flame of ire sparked up again, and, without thinking, he threw himself into and through Rivener's body, taking the chance to expose himself in order to tackle him with all his strength down from the sky and back to the slope of the roof.

"BUG! INSECT!" Eiry shrieked. Hurt flared up from his chest and he pinched his cheeks tight, taking his flaming fists and punching them into Rivener's face with reckless abandon. Not a real person? Not a real person. Not a REAL person. Not a person. Not. The smile on Eiry's face finally faded away into wails of rage, his face twisting into wrinkled hurt, "You deserve to be squashed beneath the heel of Aphismet's BOOT! MONSTER, you are! VILE thing, you are nothing but FOOD FOR ADDERS! NOTHING BUT BURDEN TO OTHERS, SELFISH, CONNIVING, FOUL MOUTHED SACK of NOTHING!"

Rivener snickered. Stars were starting to appear now, and the Scorpion's waning strength was going to return fully in a few hours. Eiry was slowing, Riv had noticed. Rivener was slowing too, but once he'd have his fill of night sky Riv would be fast and strong again, and he would finish this fight once and for all! Eiry would not continue to defy him! Would not-... would-...

It was so cold out here. Riv could hardly feel his fingertips anymore...

The ghostly Sigel suddenly zoomed out from the roof, but Rivener's confused mind didn't allow him to react in time. The tackle caught him off-guard and the two Sigels slammed to the shingles with a rather powerful crunch, shaking dust into the attic below. Eiry was tangible now, shrieking at Rivener insult after insult, punching at his face. The punches were rather weak, but the fires flicked along the Scorpion's face and burned at his hair.

As soon as Rivener got his thoughts in order and realized where he was and what had happened (namely: he had been tackled to the roof by a tangible Eiry), he acted. Both clawed hands grabbed at the ghost's biceps, Riv easily exerting his superior strength to flip them around. Now it was Eiry pinned to the roof below Riv, but for some reason the Scorpion's wings didn't raise for a strike as they should have. Instead the dark Sigel was just going to scream. Hurting Eiry physically wasn't occurring to him at all in the moment.

"ME, the burden?! What about YOU!! You shove your nose into other people's business and force your opinions on them! You and your dumb, stupid ******** pranks that no one likes, and then when we prank you, you FREAK OUT AND b***h AND ARE A GIANT b*****d ABOUT IT! I'm SICK of dealing with your BULLSHIT! You're a PEST! Just DISAPPEAR already!!!" Growling, Rivener's grip tightened on the ghost and threw him up into the air before swiping at the pale green Raevan with claws only.

Somewhere in the back of Rivener's mind, the concept had managed to return: don't sting family.

Eiry only had so much time to throw the few punches he could with the strength of a mage before he was grappled and rolled over and onto. The sigel stretched, his coil of ribbon snapping about madly in his struggle, as he tried vainly to block the scorpion's raevans harsh words. For some reason, perhaps it was the weariness, perhaps it was the stress, Eiry forgot about his ability momentarily. He could've just gone intangible then, slipped through the roof and tackled his brother again, but at that moment when he was underneath the direct fire of Rivener's words, he completely forgot.

Within moments after the raging tirade, Eiry felt himself dragged up by his unkempt clothes and he was thrown up into the air. It was just his luck that instincts took over and he threw himself into intangibility just as the claws ripped through his clothes and into the pale flesh of his chest. Blood, like sparks, flew up from the small gouge, and Eiry reeled back, floating back out of reach from the scorpion sigel.

Eiry sniffled again, the cold getting the best of him, and he shook his head madly, trying to force his hair out of his eyes. His hands pressed against his chest, attempting to press back the blood of the wound but it did nothing but leak in between his fingers. As he spoke, his words slowly became more and more clearer, a sign of his weariness. The poetry seeped out of his words and then there was only truth. "YOU ALWAYS IGNORE ME! ALWAYS KEEP YOUR EYES AWAY ON YOUR own things, you distract yourself with paintings, and those you call Lenore, always away! Never HOME ANYMORE! You're NEVER home! YOU PUSH ME AWAY! You claim 'Too busy'! 'Too tired'! 'Too much'! Always too much! HOW ELSE AM I GOING TO GET YOUR ATTENTION? IF ONLY A SNARL or a gasp or SOMETHING. As long as I get SOMETHING OUT OF YOU, SOMETHING JUST FOR ME! IT MAKES ME HAPPY."

Rivener could have just advanced when Eiry backed away from his reach, but the Scorpion did nothing of the sort. He just floated where he was, wings beating lazily to keep him airborne, fingers clawed and ready in a defensive position should the ghost Sigel try anything. Gone was the idea of ever stinging Eiry. Even as the night sky became more star-filled, rejuvenating Rivener's body and clearing his mind of the tiredness of the day, the dark Sigel did not move to attack.

The sight of blood seeping between Eiry's fingers was striking a chord of guilt in Rivener, faint and subtle under the frustration and annoyance but undeniably there. For the moment Rivener ignored this, and focused instead on the words Eiry was still yelling at him. Neither Sigel was advancing on the other anymore as the night grew colder by the minute.

"Oh, GROW UP, Eiry! I'm not your TOY! I have things to do, I have a JOB! And I like to paint, so what?! ...You never told me you wanted to see me so much, so how the hell should I know that, huh?! If you wanted to spend time with me so much you could have asked nicely instead of blocking my doorway with books or wrapping up my entire bed in cellophane while I was in it!! God, can't you act like a normal person just once and say Hey Riv, want to play a board game or something?!"

Rivener's voice had lost some of its heated, angry quality. It was no longer a roar, just a frustrated yell. Without even realizing, his body was slowly relaxing out of the defensive, tense, ready-to-spring posture.

Like a mad fluttering of birds, Eiry's mind struggled to put the world into sense. It seemed lopsided all of a sudden, distorted, and his perspective wobbled like jello from one thing to the other. Everything seemed to tell him to leap, to attack, to reach forth and pry out the other raevan's jugular, but there something in the back of his mind that told him, quite firmly: No. No, don't. But still, there was a fire in his chest, and a fire in his eyes, that kept him tense, defensive and bristled. It was easy to see that the other raevan was sucking in strength from the stars, see the weakness that was guiding his movements, and that kept Eiry far away. Fearful instinct was still directing Eiry to take precautions to protect himself.

But Rivener's words made him frustrated, and each time his brother spoke, he tossed his head like he was being physically slapped. His hands, covered in blood, snaked up to his face and he rubbed at the curves of his cheeks and forehead, smearing the red all over. He was so frustrated. FRUSTRATED. And no matter what he SAID, Rivener still wouldn't GET IT. He was dense!

"RIVENER," the ghostly sigel wailed, "In what language do I have to speak in to make you UNDERSTAND THAT I want you to PAY ATTENTION TO ME just once without me ASKING FOR YOU. IF NEVER DID I PULL SOME KIND OF PRANK ON YOU, you would become BLIND TO ME. I wouldn't EXIST for you anymore because you WOULD LOSE YOURSELF to your job, your THINGS, your PAINT, your ZUL! Never would you SEEK ME OUT, never would YOU come to ME and say those words! And RIVENER--" The ghostly sigel ran his hands up into his hair, smearing his pale minty bangs with sticky blood and wobbling in the air, "CAN'T YOU ACCEPT that I am not like normal PEOPLE? I AM ME. I am not THEM. I am not EVERYTHING ELSE. Why can you not just ENJOY ME for ME?! Like, once upon a time far in the stretches of yesteryear, you ENJOYED ME when I was new! Where is my brother?!"

As it became apparent that Eiry was on the defensive, no longer rushing at Riv, the Scorpion snapped his wings and took himself another few feet away from the ghostly Sigel. With this distance between them, Rivener felt it was safe to drop his stance, just floating there with arms akimbo, still striking a commanding and assertive figure but no longer interested in conflict of a physical sense.

An emotional conflict, however, was in full swing between the two, with Eiry dealing the most recent blow. Rivener reeled from a fresh wave of guilt, although he shook his head energetically to try and rid himself of this feeling. He narrowed ruby eyes glowered at Eiry, taking in his blood-streaked appearance, as Riv prepared his counter-strike.

"Eiry, you're being selfish. Just recently you and I went on an adventure together, remember? We saved Fletcher together! How conveniently you forget! And I WOULD Seek you out for this stuff if... If you weren't so busy with your pranks!" Alright so that argument was a bit of a stretch, so Rivener hurried to regain his footing. "Besides, what the hell should we do together, hunh? We've got nothing in common! I like TV and movies and the internet and video games, but you won't do any of that with me because it scares you! And you like plays and books and that's really boring to do! We'd just be sitting there quietly, so what difference does it make if we do it together or not? What the hell do you WANT from me, Eiry?! How is this all so different from when you were young?!"

The Scorpion heaved a tired, annoyed sigh. It was cold out here. Both Riv's arms curled in around himself and he rubbed at his biceps. It was cold. His frown turned away from the ghostly Raevan, unwilling to admit that Rivener was starting to think that he might somehow be the one in the wrong here. Even if Eiry was an obnoxious little brat and a selfish b*****d...

"I wouldn't entertain myself so deeply with my tricks and tomfoolery IF I DIDN'T have so much time TO myself, RENDERED HELPLESS to feed boredom's hunger!" he squeaked, but Rivener's argument wasn't done. So Eiry quieted.

Eiry listened to the next half of his brother's argument, his breathing calming and body freezing into stillness at the next barrage of words. he tried to make sense of them, put them together, and after painstakingly listening to Rivener's words, the sigel managed to piece them together. Differences. Was it differences separating them? Eiry's stomach churned, the heat and bleariness he felt in his head sinking into his stomach and pooling in large wells of uneasiness. He swallowed, a struggling swallow without water, and he forced his throat to squeeze. Of course, Eiry's mind exploded with ways, thinking, and methods to overcome this problem. Differences. Was that it? Was it their interests that separated them? Rivener thought that Eiry's plays were boring. Eiry thought that Rivener's movies and technology was absolutely terrifying. This boundary, he realized, by what his half-crazed mind could put together, was the dreaded monster standing between them, the thing that was taunting both of the sigels and keeping them apart. One of them would have to kill it while its back was turned, Eiry decided.

Fumbling with words, trying to keep himself from faltering back into Shakespearean speech, the sigel leaned forward, inching, despite his screaming instinct to stay away, with a splutter and shudder of his wings. His minty hair was sticking up in all directions, gelled up into weird cowlicks by the blood. The wind blew as he tried to inch forward, pushing his form to the side as he tried to slowly advance and the wind made his skin prickle.

"These differences you speak of...Books and movies...Rivener, if THAT is what keeps you from seeking me, if that's what keeps me from being with you, then let us take down that wall! You are right, I am SELFISH, SO VERY--," Eiry fought a bout of manic craze, swallowing it down with the forced surge of his conscious self like forcing himself to drink a particularly nasty medicine, "I am selfish for you. But I don't feel ire at myself for wanting to be SELFISH with my time with Rivener. And if our differences is what keeps our identities separate, then I will try. I will TRY and watch your movies, watch your internet, and play your games. If that's what I have to do, then I can swallow my fear, or do my best to swallow my terror. If we FIND COMMON INTERESTS, would you PAY attention to me?"

By the time he ended his plea, Eiry was twitching and cold, forcing his sanity with bridled grip to stay in place for this confrontation. He had advanced several feet, halfway to Rivener, and he pressed his hands again to his chest, his tattered clothes slowly turning red beneath his grip.

Eiry's words drew Rivener's gaze back, the frown slowly slipping to be replaced by a look of hesitant acceptance on the Scorpion's features. Eiry was coming closer, and Rivener found he didn't mind. The ghostly Sigel wasn't trying to attack, and even his words weren't so much a verbal lashing anymore as a desperate reaching... Riv couldn't believe his ears when Eiry said he would try to watch movies, play games. The Scorpion's wide ruby eyes seldom blinked, and for a good few moments after the minty Raevan's offer, no one spoke.

Instead of replying, Rivener floated closer to the other Sigel and uncurled his arms from around himself, reaching for his green sibling. Riv's wings were tucked harmlessly against his back, there was no show of aggressive behavior in the Scorpion at all... When he finally came within reach, Riv slipped his arms around Eiry's body and hugged him close. The gap was bridged between them.

"Okay. I'll pay more attention to you. If we can find things to do together, I'd love to do that. Maybe our first movie can be of a shakespeare story, if you want! TV isn't so scary, Eiry, you'll see." Riv cuddled his brother, suddenly feeling so damned bad for everything he'd done so far... "I'm sorry I stung you, a while back. I don't know what came over me. But, you have to be nicer to me and Zul when we're together, okay? I love Zul. I love you too, but differently. And I don't like the people I love fighting. Okay?"
PostPosted: Wed Nov 18, 2009 5:39 pm

As Rivener approached, his wings tucked back, Eiry couldn't help but find himself flinching from every movement his brother made towards him. Instinct, broken and unbridled, commanded him to do, even though all he wanted was to wait for Rivener to come to him. When he finally closed the distance between then and took his quivering, twitching form, in his own arms, the Minty raevan felt a wave of relief melt all the shaking from his body. Instead, he squirmed furiously, trying to release his own arms and wrap them tightly around his brother while rubbing his blood covered face into the nape of Rivener's neck.

As he spoke, his words were kind of muffled by the embrace, "I apologize for all my hurtful tomfoolery and being a meddlesome twit," he said, "When you and your Lenore are together, I'll try to give you appropriate space enough for sweet nothings." And for a while, Eiry held Rivener like that, pressing himself and his battle-weary form as close as he could to Rivener, as tight as he might've held on if they were in a car. The night quietly deepened around them and after a while, highlighted by the glow of their two runes, Eiry opened his mouth again, peeling himself back enough so he could look Rivener in the eye.

"Brother?" he said, his words warbling as he fought to swallow something down, "I'm not feeling too well. Weak and feeble, yes, but a fire burns up my skin and head. And I can't all too well remember what's happened...." he paused and looked around tiredly, suddenly seeming quite perplexed by their current position on top of the roof. It seemed, that as long as Eiry was weary and hungry, his manic psychotics simmered down. "...Why are we up here? And...

"...I didn't know that Shakespeare makes movies?"
