How to recognize a Vampire: 1. Pale Skin 2. No shadow or reflection 3. Mostly active at night 4. Eyes with reddish cast. Green or blue irises 5. Thick, healthy hair 6. A person who suddenly appears and vanishes without warning
Food: -As we all know, vampire drinks blood. But there are some vampires who prefer to drink animal blood. These 'Vegetarian' vampire advoid human blood for moral and ethical reasons. -A vampire prefers to feed at least once a day. A recently fed vampire has pinkish skin and is energetic. While a starving vampire turns out to be very pale and has a sluggish mannor. -Some vampires do continue to eat regular human food. Although they cannot gain any nutrients from they, they still enjoy their favorites before they were turned. Although they have to continue to practive eating human food, if's its not regularly introduced into a vampire's body, its body will soon reject the food and in return, the vampire will vomit.
Allergens: -Vampires cannot properly digest solid foods and for that reason, potions and elixers cannot affect them. However if any of these items were to come into contact with a vampire, they may fall ill and weaken, very simpilar to an allergic reaction. -These effects remain specific to different individual vampires and they are highly unpredictable.
~Holly, Yew Leaves, Rose Petals, Salt, Rice, Silver, Mistletoe, Lilies~
Vampire Powers: Strength - Vampires are notoriously strong. They can lift much heavier items than mortals. Once the vampire has a grip on its prey, its neary impossible for the victim to break free.
Speed/Movement - They can definatly outrace a mere mortal. They can run so fast sometimes it may seem like they disappeared. Vampires are also very good at climbing, swinging and leaping. They can flip in the air and and scale up the sides of cliffs and buildings. The older the vampire, the more nimble it is.
Intelligence - Vampires are known as one of the most intelligent creatures. Once turned, the new vampire often experiences a headache as its brain capacity expands greatly. It's intelligence grows greater each night. They are very capable as setting ingenius traps to capture their prey. They can easily blend in with society where they instinctivly identify personality weaknesses and turn humans against each other. They aslo can manipulate others to ensnare their victims to carry out their plans.
Charm - Vampires can lure their victims with the promise of a friendly supper. If the victim loooks directly into a vampire's eyes, it can hypnotize the victim and take control of their mind.
Magic - Usually, with vampires who have magical abilities, often had magic in their mortal life before they were turned. Thus, when they are turned, their abilities are enhanced.
Shapeshifting - Vampires possess the power to change their form. They use this ability to protect themselves, to travel distances or to suprise their enemies. *Mist Form - This process only takes a minute for a vampire to transform. Once in mist form, the vampire is safe from any form of attack. The vampire can choose what kind of mist it uses. It could be as thick as a cloud or nearly transparent. *Animal Form - Vampires typically change into two different types. Bats or Wolves. The choice depends on the vampire's personality and which would fit best for the situation. A vampire may choose to become a bat when it needs to fly out, a wolf however, is more deadly in the forest and is more useful during combat.

Vampires are a touchy subject. My favorite version of the vampire mythology is the Anne Rice version. This contains spoilers for some of her books.
Recognizing Vampires: 1. Pale skin and glass-like fingernails. 2. Vibrant colored eyes. 3. Excess clothing in any temperature. 4. Thick, healthy hair. 5. Only active at night. 6. Can heal remarkably fast. 7. Super-Strength
Creation: -The creation of a vampire is slow and painful. The human must be drained nearly to the point of death and must then drink the blood of a vampire. The draining may be done more than once, where the vampire drains the human of the vampire blood just received and then gives it back. When it's all said and done, the human is dead with vampire blood in his or her veins. The blood begins to work and brings the human back to life as a vampire. Death continues but after the final expulsion of human waste, the transformation is complete and a fledgling has entered the world. -The creation of the first vampire took place in ancient Egypt when a demon entered into a stab wound in Queen Akasha and transformed her into a blood-drinking, night-prowling creature. She then turned her husband and Khayman. Khayman then turned Maharet and Mekare. The latter three were known as the First Brood. They could not read Akasha's mind, and Akasha could not read theirs. For more on this story, read Queen of the Damned. Do not watch the movie as it explains nothing.
Food: Blood only. Animal or human makes no difference, though human in preferred. They may feed more than once a night, and many do so. The more the vampire feeds, the slower the body changes. One vampire nightly gorged himself with blood and was still a human-ish color. Notable vampires in Rice's novels that did not need to drink were Akasha, Marius, Mael, Khayman, Maharet, and Mekare. These were all ancient vampires. A fledgling created by an ancient requires only very little blood to sustain itself and only needs the blood for a little while.
Powers: -Telepathy is the most common. Most vampires can read the minds of humans. With this gift they can also read the minds of other vampires, provided the vampire was not created by them or that the other vampire is not hiding his mind.
-Flying is common in elder vampires. Typically, the older a vampire gets the more power he or she obtains and flying comes with the deal. Vampires do not like to fly as they do not like the sensation it gives them.
-Super-Intelligence is a gift that most vampires receive upon their creation. More of their brain is used and they begin picking up on things very quickly. Lestat learned to read in less than a night as a vampire and could skim through a book in seconds and memorize every word.
One example of a vampire that did not have any of the Dark Gifts is Louis de Pointe du Lac. He is referred to as the "human vampire."
Laws: Vampires have two main laws that are strictly followed. In covens, another is added and applied to outsiders that are visiting. A fourth was added after the fall of Akasha. 1. Humans are not to know of vampires. This includes coventry, daylight resting places, and who is and isn't a vampire. Lestat crossed this line when he became a rockstar. 2. Creating a child vampire is strictly forbidden. This law has carried to several versions of vampirism and is kept for the same reason across the board: Children vampires are unpredictable and dangerous. Lestat and Louis crossed this line with Claudia. 3. (Coven law) Do not kill other vampires unless they break law 1 or 2. Plain and simple. Louis crossed this line at the Theatre des Vampires in Paris. 4. (Post Akasha) No vampire is to create another vampire.
Miscellaneous Information: -Vampires have not choice in when they sleep. When sunrise comes, they fall asleep and if they're outside, they burn. Some are "early risers" and wake up for evening twilight and fall asleep just before the sun breaks the horizon. No vampire is able to stay awake when the sun is in their sky. The only time they can even move during the day is if they are threatened. Pity to the person who disturbs the slumber of a vampire. If a vampire is left in the sun as he or she sleeps, they might try to claw their way underground to escape the sun, as was the case with Lestat.
-When a vampire is created, all traits from their human life are retained. Eye color becomes more brilliant, but stays the same color. Louis had green eyes, Lestat had blue. Hair stays the same length and will grow back while the vampire sleeps if cut. Armand was fond of cutting his hair upon awakening to the style of the times. They also have an affinity for the period in which they were turned.
-If a human is ill when they are transformed, the illness is cured. We see this with Gabrielle, who as a human was Lestat's mother. Lestat "cures" her by turning her into his vampire child.
-Ancients are interesting. A young vampire that drinks the blood of an ancient will receive some of the ancient's power for a short time. Enough of the blood results in what appears to be permanent power (Queen of the Damned, Tale of the Body Thief).
-The sun also has little effect on an ancient. When left in the sun, an ancient will burn to a crisp but not be destroyed. Provided they can get to shelter before the next sunrise, their skin will turn into a deep tan color and will remain that way for a long time. This eliminates the need for excess clothing and requires that only sunglasses be worn to cover the brilliant eyes. Maharet did this to blend in to human society and Lestat tanned himself in a suicide attempt.
-Crucifixes, garlic, running water, thresholds, and most of the other "allergens" that vampires have are false. Louis states that he is "quite fond of looking at crucifixes." They walk in the rain which means crossing running water; they enter houses uninvited quite frequently; and Louis lived in a house covered in wild flowers, roses among them.
-"Dead" blood and blood saturated with alcohol or a drug has negative effects on vampires. The effects of the alcohol or drug will carry over to the vampire, so it is possible to have a drunken vampie on the loose. Drinking enough blood from a dead person can kill a vampire. This is seen quite clearly in Interview with a Vampire when Claudia gives Lestat a present.
-"Vegetarian" vampires are looked down upon. Louis was fond of rats for a while and Lestat constantly made fun of him. Gabrielle, Lestat's human mother and vampire child, is perhaps the only vampire to get away with drinking the blood of animals for a prolonged amount of time due to her adventurous nature.
-As vampires age, nerves die. Ancients have marble-hard skin and feel next to nothing. An interesting case is Maharet, who after having her eyes plucked out as a human used human eyes as a vampire. This worked until her nerves started degrading, which in turn degraded her vision and caused pain as her eyes stopped working.
I'm sure I'll throw more in later.

xXxStrawberry of LovexXx How to recognize a Vampire:1. Pale Skin 2. No shadow or reflection 3. Mostly active at night 4. Eyes with reddish cast. Green or blue irises 5. Thick, healthy hair 6. A person who suddenly appears and vanishes without warning Hrmm. Pale skin I has, more alert at night/drawn to it I am, often vanishes and scares the daylights out of friends when reapears is also I... Must be part vampire XD You can't say all these things categorize a vampire. Some don't nessisarily have pale skin because of their ethnicity before they were turned. The shadow thing has to do with if you go with the whole "vampires cant go out during the day" thing that I think is a bunch of hogwash. Can they have reflections/get their picture taken? I don't know. The eye thing, well I also heard that vampire's eyes change colour, so do mine but that doesn't mean am one. Thick, healthy hair, well not all have that either, and as for the last one, well thats a trick anyone can do. Vampires can go out during the day, they are just like regular humans during this time, they just tend to be a bit more tired come afternoon and sleep until night arrives, then their bodies shift into preditor mode and they go out and feed off of animals and humans alike, whichever is easiest for them to catch upon this time. They tend to be very charming and can be average to very beautiful, sometimes even exotic. Sharper canine teeth even during the day, fast reflextes no matter the time of day, and they can spot a fellow vampire from a mile away(its all in the walk). Thats just a few things I've heard before. XD Who knows, Maybe Strawberry was more close than I am to a vampire's description that we wrote here.
