Just for a bit of a fun discussion's sake, who would win in this classic fight of the electrified rodents? Pikachu or Raichu? Please specify the "why" for your decision to the best of your ability.

I think, stats-wise, a Raichu would win against a Pikachu, simply because Pokémon evolutions are always stronger than their pre-evolutions. If they both had the same moveset, Raichu would be faster and stronger, able to deal more damage.

It all depends on their stats and how their trainers work on their IV spreads and all that, I suppose. I still say Raichu, even if Ash's Pikachu defeated Lt. Surge's Raichu on its second go-around. -Nodnod-

Okay, we all know that the pokemon series is an "Ash always wins eventually" thing. He has to win, or else there's nowhere for the story line to advance. I think personally that Pikachu beat Raichu just because it's the only way the storyline would advance, and because a battle with Ash's Pikachu against Pikachu's evolution would be interesting to more people. Especially if Pikachu somehow wins.

Since I believe the Pokemon TV show is not very legit, I still believe that Raichu can beat Pikachu, for the same reason as Nezu.

Pikachu's stats are way behing Raichu's. They only stat that comes close is speed, its only behind by 10, therefore its a possability that a pikachu at that same level of a Raichu could have better speed, but thats it. Raichu would win over the fact that it has better attack, since pikachu's defense is low. I'm ruling out special attack because every Raichu I have battled knew attack based moves, aside from the occasional thunderbolt, which wouldnt do very good against an elecrtic pokemon. The show has to let ash and Pikachu win because if he didnt, he wouldnt get the badge and the story would go nowhere. There fore the show means nothing.

Never doubt a pikachu, especially when it comes to the wi-fi metagame. Because its nintendo's little mascot, of course they had to follow suit and give it access to the held item Light Ball which doubles both of its Attack and Special Attack stats. With that item, it actually makes it a contender against Raichu, boosting a higher attack and special attack. On the down side, Raichu does boost more speed and in the given an even playing field, Raichu would be able to kill Pikachu straight out before it got a chance.. then again.. Quick attack could make the difference as well.

I would have to say it would be tie, though all my love still goes to pikachu. razz

I have to go with Raichu. Both for my love for the big mouse and on the fact that it's just has a stat advantage against it. Even if, as cormini mentioned, the light ball was equipped to pikachu, raichu can still knock it out with a good body slam or focus punch if an attack enhancing item was given to raichu. And if that's not enough to do it in, static or thunder wave will always do justice to eliminate speed advantage. Though that can go both ways.

Still though, I have my hopes on Raichu <3

Actually, your wrong about the light ball, it anly raises the Sp. Attack. I just checked my game to confirm it. so Pikachu holding that wouldnt help at all, resulting in Raichu still winning.

Steven - Need to recheck your game, pal. It boost both stats.

I voted for Raichu just because I like him more. Like Cormini said, Light Ball is nifty as hell if you're going for a sweeper type. Specially with Fake Out. But, even still, Raichu would win the race, plus without Light Ball, Raishu would be freed up for another item.

I just checked my game again, and the thing says, "An item to be held by Pikachu. It is a puzzling orb that raises the SP. Atk stat." and I even checked the website Pokemon.Marriland.com, it has info on all the pokemon and items they hold and it said the same thing.

Are you sure you're looking at the description in DPPt? It may have only doubled Sp.Attack in R/S/E, but it does both now.

To be fair...

A 31 IV/252 EV Def. Pikachu (assuming a neutral Defense nature) would have a high chance of being 2HKO'd by a 31 IV/252 EV Attack Life Orb Raichu (assuming a neutral Attack nature) using Fake Out and Return.

Of course, no sane Pikachu player invests in Defense, so that makes that situation a little unrealistic, don't you think? Let's realistically look at our little frail rodent.

Get rid of the 252 EVs, and Pikachu's chances of being 1HKO'd by Return alone is fairly high. Add Fake Out into the Life Orb mix, and Pikachu drops like a sack of bricks. Again, this is assuming a +Spd, neutral attack Raichu nature.

With Light Ball increasing Atk and Sp. Atk, many Pikachu players are now opting to go with Hasty or Naive natures- do I hear less Defense, anyone? Pikachu is frailer than ever, and Raichu has the Speed advantage to begin with, provided it maxes it out with a +Speed nature.

Assuming it was Jolly and the EV investments were solely invested in Attack and Speed, Raichu can wipe out the smaller mouse with no opposition.
