Yahya Grant sat down on the kitchen counter top, his face scrunched up into an awkward look of concentration. At least, it was awkward in the sense that what he was doing wasn't really a cause for such intense concentration. Sandwiched between his thighs was a simple silver bowl, the mixture inside of it brown and well... it actually somewhat looked good. Yahya wasn't sure he'd suggest a human eating it, but he knew the dogs at the rescue center would enjoy the treats. On top of that, it was probably the best way to distract himself from that strange dream he had last night...
Which he promptly refused to think about, because it was creepy. The feeling it had left in him after he woke up was creepy, and so he stoutly ignored it. His grip on the wooden spoon tightened, and if possible, he mixed the ingredients together more intensely. The Barren Pines student carefully leaned back, just in case a drop of sweat wanted to make its way into his perfect dog biscuit batter.
It was all natural ingredients and tasty... for canines! It had certainly won him a few animal friends since he started making them. The mixture was getting harder to stir, which meant it'd be ready in a few minutes for him to grab the cookie-cutters and make adorable shapes. He was sure there was a bone shape somewhere in one of these drawers...

For some reason - and Sue couldn't really put his finger on the reason why - since he'd woken up that morning, he'd been hungry. Nibbling on breakfast cereal hadn't done the trick. He was craving something with more oomph, something meaty and delicious.
Unfortunately, his cooking skills were limited to chopping things up and hoping they didn't burn. But he was just desperate enough to give it a shot anyway.
But when he arrived at the kitchen, it was to find that it was already being used. And something... damn. Something smelled good, actually....
Sue wasn't normally one for approaching other humans. But, egged on by a watering mouth, he decided to make an exception.
"Hey," he said, appearing suddenly in front of Yahya. "Did you see what was going on out there?" One hand pointed just outside the door.
As soon as Yahya looked, Sue was scooping a finger in the bowl and getting a taste of whatever that stuff was that looked so delicious.

He was so engrossed in his task that he didn't quite notice that someone else had entered the kitchen until they were right in front of him. Yahya blinked, glancing up to the other boy curiously, not even trying to hide the fact that he had been startled. "What?" his head tilted to the side, and he peered for a few more seconds at the other boy before falling undeniabl for Sue's scheme. He leaned forward, peering over Sue's shoulder towards the door. He didn't SEE anything, and he really didn't hear anything either...
Frowning he turned his attention back to his bowl, blinking in surprise when there was a funny indent in the center. He wondered how that had gotten... oh. Yahya looked back up to Sue, cautiously waiting for the boy to realize what he had just stuck his hand in. But, so far he didn't SEEM to notice he was basically eating dog food... so Yahya would do him the kindness of not telling him, instead pretending as if he had noticed nothing. Keep stirring the bowl... and he hoped Sue had washed his hands not long ago. The dogs wouldn't mind, he was sure, but it was probably better to err on the side of caution.
"I don't... notice anything..."

Testing the texture of the mixture over his tongue, mulling over the taste, Sue was forced to conclude....
That that was some of the best s**t he'd ever tasted. And he wanted more.
"Oh, it's there," Sue assured him, hopping up to sit on the counter next to him. "I can't believe you didn't see it! You blind or something? Ah forget it, it's not important anyway." Properly settled in with several inches to separate him from his patsy new acquaintance, Sue rumbled, "So, you like cooking or something?"

He couldn't believe it, this kid actually... didn't seem to be bothered by the taste. Sue was completely oblivious to what it was that he was eating, and Yahya was just going to keep it that way. Almost protectively he pulled his bowl tighter against his stomach, continuing to stir it even if his arm was growing tired. He couldn't give the bowl to this other kid, though, because there might not be anything left when he got the bowl back. "Oh, no, I'm not blind. I must have just missed it." While he suspected that Sue had stolen a taste of his dog biscuit batter, he did not actually suspect that Sue had used the there's-something-outside-the-door as a ploy to distract him.
He could be keen sometimes... and not very much other times. "Well, yeah, I do from time to time. I'm not really all that great at it, but I do make good... treats." Yahya flashed Sue a smile. While he did feel the need to protect his hard-work, it wasn't so great that he'd want to shrug Sue away. The guy seemed nice, even if he wanted to eat dog treats! "I'm Yahya.... Yahya Grant."

Already to the names, were they? Even though most people were too polite these days to say anything, Sue still felt himself get tense at the impending introduction. No telling yet where this kid would fall on the spectrum of reactions - but hey, if he made a big deal about Sue's name, at least that would be an excuse to shove him to the floor and take the rest of the batter.
"Name's Sue," he introduced himself. He put up his hand as if to offer a shake - then changed it suddenly into a pointing finger. "Oh geez, look, there it goes again!"

Sue's name reminded him of that one song with a boy named Sue who was mad at being named Sue... but he couldn't much recall it, and decided that if he couldn't really remember it then it was probably best not to mention it. It didn't quite register in his mind that Sue's name could be an easy way to tease the other boy. "Nice to meet'cha, Sue." Yahya probably would have shook Sue's hand if it wasn't for the fact that clearly he was MISSING something neat that was going on just at the door to the kitchen. "Huh?" and he put his bowl at Sue's mercy as he craned his neck in the opposite direction to try and peer through the door to whatever it was that he so dearly needed to see.
"I really don't see anything..." he frowned, or rather, pouted just slightly. How could he miss it and Sue be able to see it? "What did you see?" he turned his attention back to Sue, trying not to get terribly distracted by what was possibly happening at the door. He had likely missed it again. "Are you sure you're not seeing things? Because I really didn't catch a glimpse of anything again."

Sue's mouth was just slightly full when Yahya began that interrogation. After all, he'd already tasted the batter to find out if he liked it; this time, he'd gone for a three-fingered dip, and there was a nice-sized glob where the batter was sinking slowly to fill a mysterious abyss.
"It looked like one of those terrorists," Sue answered, once he'd swallowed enough as stealthily as he could to hope he wouldn't be giving himself away. "You know, the ones that wear the skirts and flounce around? Those really really short skirts?" He had no clue if Yahya was the sort that got excited by such things, but you know, he was a teenage boy. The odds were in Sue's court on this one.
"You should go take a look." Sue nodded at the door.

He wasn't really looking at his batter when talking to Sue, but it was hard to miss that there was a giant indent in the center of the mix. "Huh? That's weird..." he held the bowl up closer to his face for a more thorough investigation, and then suspiciously glanced at Sue. Was that some batter at the corner of his lips? Squinting his eyes, it certainly looked like Sue had taken just about a HANDFUL of his batter. At this rate there really was going to be nothing left for the dogs at the rescue center... or he'd just make another batch. It was likely at this rate he'd be making another one, from the looks of it.
Yahya gave Sue an uncomprehending expression. While he was a teenage boy, it just wasn't currently clicking in his head what Sue was hinting at, nor did it seem likely that he would ever catch on at this rate. "Maybe I'll look and see if there is anything..." and absentmindedly he handed Sue the one thing the other boy desired out of their interactions - the batter. Yahya slid off the counter top and moved to the kitchen door, peering out of it curiously for a few long moments. "I really think you were seeing things!" he called back. There was nothing there to see! And he just wasted precious time he could've used finishing up his dog treats.

Oh god this was way too easy. This was way too easy. Did Piper have a brother? Maybe there was something in the water? Whatever it was, Sue blessed it. Dear God, thank you for the imbeciles, who in their blissful ignorance, do provide entertainment and snacks....
Now Sue's only goal in life was to cram as much of this batter into his mouth as he could before Yahya turned around, and this was a task he approached with extraordinary joviality. There was far too much batter in the bowl to make it all disappear before he turned around, of course, but damned if Sue wouldn't try--
But he was greedy. Too greedy. He was just placing a new handful of the scrumptious batter into his mouth, and Yahya had turned around. Was looking at him. Caught in the act.
Sue tried to cover it up, though. With a mouth stuffed full, he hid his face a bit behind his sleeve and, stifled, suggested, "Dey mahs'a gohn 'roungh'a gorner." He made small circle gestures with the spoon, just to be extra persuading.

He turned around, and okay, there was no denying now where all of his batter was disappearing to. Yahya stared blankly at Sue for a single minute, just watching the mess of batter that was trying to be shoved into the other boy's mouth, and then his whole-hearted attempt to cover it up when it was clear Yahya was no longer oblivious to what Sue had been doing all along. Yahya wasn't mad, he wasn't the kind of guy to get mad. He was surprised... and just a little bit amused. Actually, he just didn't really have much of a clue how to react to Sue so obviously eating his batter. Yahya whined in the back of his throat, hands lifting into the air, though the gesture they made simply could not be read.
He wiggled his fingers, and was really trying to pass on how he felt about this. Clearly his actions spoke that he was confused. "...Did you save any for the dogs?" When he seemed able to speak, he conveniently forgot that he was trying to keep the fact that he was making dog treats with that batter a secret, just in case Sue would be repulsed by what he was eating. "I'm going to have to make a whole other batch now!" Yahya walked back to the other boy, peering down into the bowl to inspect what was left of his dog treat mix. "Well, I suppose you can have the rest of it..."
Since the boy had likely eaten more than half ALREADY.

... For the dogs? Sue regarded the bowl in his hands skeptically. For the dogs?
"Should've told me it was for dogs," he said, though, the slightest traces of guilt in his voice. "I would've let it be."
It took a certain amount of calculation to decide what to do with this new bit of information. After several seconds, though, Sue offered the wooden spoon out to Yahya -- then arranged himself more lazily on the counter and continued eating out of the bowl.
"Betcha that cats would probably like this stuff, too." Sue should know, after all.

If anything, Yahya looked just as guilty, his fingers tapping against the counter as he glanced evasively to the side. "I didn't want to tell you that you were eating dog biscuit mix..." Most people would not enjoy being told they'd just sampled what amounted to dog food. "It's fine, though, I've got enough stuff to make a second batch. I work at this rescue center for animals and we get a bunch of dogs on top of the wildlife there." he explained with a small smile. It really wasn't that big of a deal that Sue had ate (and was going to continue to eat) his biscuit mix. Yahya would just make another, and that would be a good way to keep him preoccupied for another half hour or so.
Taking the spoon, he dug through one of the lower cabinets for another bowl, and set to making a second batch. "You're not allowed to touch this one, though. I don't have enough ingredients to make another batch on top of this." He pointed the wooden spoon at Sue, singling him out for being the only one who'd eat it all before it got to the dogs. "I'm surprised that you LIKE it, though, since I didn't make it up in mind for human enjoyment as well."

"It's a deal," Sue agreed, unperturbed by the full revelation of what material he was eating. I mean, come on, half of it was gone already - what damage could the other half do?
Slurping at another pinch of the stuff, not minding that a bit had dribbled onto his front, he watched Yahya at work curiously. "I don't think that pets deserve to eat anything people wouldn't, anyway," he commented, oddly at ease around this other boy. "Only reason to ever feed a kitty kibble is because it's cheap enough, otherwise I'd be making them decent meals every day."
"So," he licked at his thumb, "does your shelter take cats? No-kill? How full are they?"

Yahya had to fight the urge to reach over and clean Sue's shirt off, because really, the other boy was making a mess with how he was slurping down the mix. His hand reflexively reached out, but he thought better of it and instead used the motion to reach for an egg. He added it to the mixture, chatting idly with the other boy as he worked on his latest batch. "I try my best to make sure the animals I take care of get natural food that's good for them. It's expensive, but the rescue center has a few big donations that really help out with food and stuff." He cracked open another egg, and that too went into his mixture. "What I make is safe for humans to eat, I just didn't think it'd taste that good to us."
Of course, he must have been wrong, since Sue was chowing down on it. "We take in all sorts of animals, right now we have an injured coyote, and birds, a hawk too. We're pretty full up, but we always find a way to make room for more animals. Oh - definitely a no-kill zone." Yahya would not work in a place that killed animals they couldn't help find homes for. All wildlife was released if possible, though there were a few permanent residents. If the rescue center did kill animals, Yahya would be the first one there to protest against it.
He really did love animals.
